sons best friend is moving...gift ideas?

My 9 year old son's best friend is moving and we want to get him a special going away present. Any ideas and or experience with this? It is going to be so hard for him. I am just dreading it.

No ideas? I was thinking of something with their picture on it. Like a t-shirt or a box filled with momentos. Maybe a mug or a poster?

Maybe some cool, pre addressed stamped cards or envelops that he can send you son a note or picture of his new home? Maybe that is way out dated but trying to think of a way to keep them connected. Do they have on line DS's or something that you might could give them both itune type cards for?

Maybe a gift card for a activity that is in his new neighborhood such a laser tag or miniature golf?

Do you have any of those photo booths at the mall? The ones where they print out 4 pictures. Take the boys for icecream and get their pictures, then cut htem in half and frame them alike. My boys did this with their best friend - BF's mother took the kids, we inded up with the goofy photo and I cut them and framed them. BF's mother says that is still his favorite picture in his room.

This can be done very inexpensively, too.

(What about Chuck E Cheese's "pencil" drawing pictures?)

How about a gift card for Wizard101 for the both, and help the set up accounts. This past summer we moved away, and my son loves to play with his old friends online.

I was going to say a special photo frame with a picture of the kids together. We did that for my DS and his friend (got matching frames for both boys) and put a photo in of the two of them together. The friend's mom said that picture was one of the first things her son unpacked and put in his new room when they moved.

Great ideas, Thanks! The friend was over the other day and I was taking all kinds of pictures. For my son's birthday his friend already got him a mini-poster for framing. It was really cute. Some sort of picture will be part of the gift.

I love the idea of the envelopes except I may make them the larger document type envelopes as the boys like to draw lots of pictures for each other.

Wizards 101 is also a great idea!

Two things we have down for friends moving away:

Pics of the kids together. Either framed or made a photo book from shutterfly.

A guide book to the new place they were moving.

when we were the ones moving across country my dds friends got here a adddress book with all there info in it, stamps, post card stamps and pretty paper and envelopes!

for a boy maybe the envelopes but what about a throw a way camera for each to take pics of New and old places then mail the cameras to ach other. Also a neat thing i saw if both are near a strore was a experience at the same time like a build a bear ( pre-order with the sounds/voice box and have both boys record a message) and build a bear for each other or a bo car etc. One of my DDs fav things was a piece of wood that her friend decorated with things they both liked to do together and had painted the names on it! Its still hanging over her bed!!
