I was wanting to have balloons in our room at AoA for my son's birthday and a birthday hat, the total would be $60 plus dollars. I was thinking of something that is not so pricey. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Does anybody know if the gift shops in the lobby have balloons and hats?

Thank for you help

Bring balloons from home and some tape to attach to walls. You could even have them personalized with his age! Make a cute Mickey birthday hat and being that too!

I was thinking of that but I wanted to surprise him, if we brought them with us he would see it in the car.

I think PP just meant a pack of uninflated latex balloons. It would be easy to hide from him in a suitcase, and you can just blow them up once you get there. I wouldn't use tape though. Maybe get those sticks and "balloon cups" (from any party store) to make a bouquet or make a garland with ribbon to hang around the room.

I know the lobby of All-Stars has helium-filled balloons that they give to kids sometimes as they check in. I'd bet if you asked really nicely, they'd give you a couple.

Anything purchased through Disney or through a florist/gift service type of place will be expensive. You can order Birthday cakes and such which are also very expensive ($75+....and waaay up into hundreds of dollars) unless you buy the generic cake. They cannot have it waiting in your room though I don't think, and I'm not sure if they have cakes available at the Value resorts.

I like the idea of bringing a pack of balloons, maybe a few streamers or a birthday banner. When you arrive, have one of you check in/go up to the room and quickly decorate while the other lets the child explore the resort or gift shop for a few minutes...then have them text you when it's safe to go to the room and have the other say something like, "Mickey must have known it was your birthday!". If he is easily distracted (ie: more than 10-20 minutes), before having one of you go up to decorate the room/bring luggage in, they can stop at the food court or wherever they may sell a cupcake or some sort of dessert or treat (or even stuffed toy) he would like.

The Chapeau sp? at The Magic Kingdom sells birthday ears. I think they cost around $20. My DD has a set we had her name embroidered on them for a small fee. Every Character we met wanted to sign them. A basic theme park balloon runs about $10.

If you note your child's birthday on your reservation you will likely be greeted with a birthday button and balloons at check in but there is no guarantee. My oldest daughter has celebrated 3 actual birthdays at Disney and each has been very special. We don't go out of our way looking for extra magic but it always seems to find us. The magic will really be made by the castmembers not things.
Have a great trip and a very happy birthday!

One of us ran up to the room while the other entertained the kids, I had a carry on bag full of treats that the "Easter Bunny" had left for them, confetti, eggs filled with $$$ or treats, candy, stuffed animals, etc. Maybe you could do the same and pack a separate bag with all Birthday decorations and sneak into the room before the rest of the family. The options we have looked into for in room treats were always way to much $$$$. Have a great trip!
