Peabody, MA. Opened today.

For those of us who have never been, could you share Sonic knowledge?
How it works? I've looked at the website & see you park your car, push the red button to order when ready. They bring food out to you.

There is also a drive-thru. This one has a covered patio with menu signs. Is that normal? Do you order on the patio? There isn't an inside to these places right? Like you can't go in and order, right? They must have restrooms somewhere to wash your hands. LOL

I'm thinking car hop in snowy locations has to be a terrible job in the winter. Or during summer in hot places too. Do you tip the car hop?

Is it like old fashioned car hop places and they clip the tray onto the outside of your window? What do you do with the tray when you are ready to leave? I don't remember.

Menu suggestions? Is limeade like old fashioned Lime Rickey from soda fountains?

Yes, you pull up and park and push the button and order. You pay by CC at your car, or pay cash to the car hop. The car hop brings you yor food on roller skates! There is usually someone skating around with napkins, ketchup, etc.

You CAN order at a window and dine at the patio, and you can drive-thru.

I like to order a Lime Slush with strawberries added with the lime, or a Strawberry Slush with lime added with the strawberries!

I am NOT a fan of their onion rings, but if you like them sweet and REALLY oniony, you will like these!

The one near us in MI hasn't seen a winter, so I don't know how that works. Maybe they trade their roller skates for ice skates! ;)

Paying. HAHAHA. I hadn't even thought of paying. Thank you for including that info. :)

So no clip-on tray to worry about? :thumbsup2 I remember those always being a pain because you had to leave the window open and the bugs / bees came in. We didn't have A/C in the car back then.

You can park your car and push the button on the menu if you want to sit in your car and eat. They don't clip a tray to the window anymore(not here anyway). If you want your food to go, you go through the drive-thru.

I think most Sonic locations have a few tables on the patio, but they never seem very clean to me, so I wouldn't care to sit at one.

I think many people give the car hop the change from their order or maybe a little extra. Of course tipping is always controversial. so I'll let others weigh in on that.

I've never seen a public entrance for a Sonic. I'm sure the employees have a restroom and can wash their hands, but I don't think there's one for the public.

Enjoy your Sonic food.:)

There is usually a restroom along the right side of the building if you are facing it.

Cherry Limeade!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

The one's here have a special right now burger & shake for $2.99.

Mmm hmm...

And, I don't know if you are "supposed" to tip, but they are usually always teenage kids, so if we pay cash, they usually get a dollar, or the quarters from our change.

OMG....I live for Cherry Limeade...and all drinks are half price between 1pm and 5pm..at least they are here. We have 2 sonics in our town....they're very popular in NC. The newest one has a fenced off playground area that is nice. My kids love it because they can get slushes or different flavored drinks....like watermelon/ sprite or blue coconut slush. They also serve their full menu all day...so you can get breakfast anytime.

DOn't get too excited. Sonic is pretty gross (the food). The drinks are great. Ice cream is so mediocre...think DQ.

We just had one that was opened on a very busy Highway. They needed to have police there because it became so busy.

I have not even had an opportunity to try anything there. From what I hear its not that great besides the drinks. So I am not going to wait an hour in my car just to get in.

Good Luck

The burgers are decent and the onion rings are really good. My DH and DS love the cheesy tots too. The one near us just opened, so we haven't tried everything yet.

We always tip.

We very rarely eat food at Sonic for some reason, but we go to get Cherry Limeades a lot. Yum!!! I highly recommend them. :)

Do none of you remember McDonalds when they opened. Its the same thing. I am pass the age of wanting to eat in my car.

Todays cars are not made for eating. I have had sonic in FL and I would not go out of my way for any of their food.

BLAH!!!

the lemon berry (it's strawberry) slush is to DIE for! BIG hunks of lemon and strawberries!

Wasn't aware the food wasn't so great. Guess I won't be going out of my way to make a trip there. Next time I'm in the area then.

yep, I drove by it yesterday. I live down the street in Danvers. You will not find me there. unless they have veggie burgers!
I do however miss from years ago the A & W Root-beer restaurants!!!! Anyone remember those?

Our sonic car hops don't wear skates. The cherry limeades are really good and my daughter loves to get a cherry vanilla dr. pepper. The burgers are better than many fast food places. Way back in the day when I worked at sonic we set the tray on the window. I did dump quite a few drinks lol.

I drove by it on my way to Fenway on Monday night. Didn't feel inclined to stop.

I don't know if it was open. We were on our way to Fenway and were more interested in Fenway Franks and a ball game than Sonic's. I saw a few cars, but it wasn't packed--it might not have been open. When we drove by on the way home it was near midnight.
