I need some songs that have movements to go with them and I can't think of too many. I have the Hand Jive, the Macarena, and the YMCA but i want a few more.

Just so it makes sense as to why I'm doing it...I want them for my classroom. After we have worked for a period of 10 to 15 minutes i want to be able to stop for 30 to 60 seconds for brain breaks. Then they will be ready to refocus on the task at hand and maybe we'll make better progress!!

thanks,
tara

Are you a Dr. Jean disciple? If so, you already know about her music. If not...she's awesome and has tons of great movement/learning stuff that kids love. The music excercises the body and brain at the same time.

nope not Dr. Jean...Dr. Rich Allen.

My thing is just to get them off of their butts and get the blood flowing.

I'll look her up!

The Chicken Dance.

And one the kids will LOVE, Hawaii Five-O. They won't even "get it" but they'll love it anyhow.

Start doing the Hula, then everybody sits on the floor spread eagle, one in front of another (like you are in a canoe) and paddles. Then stand up and Hula again as the music changes, then back down on teh floor. It's very fast paced, which is I think why kids love it.

You can incorporate Monster Mash at Halloween!

I don't know what grade you do, but when I taught preschool, we danced to everything!

Funny, she uses the "brain break" alot in her workshops. You can find her CD's at Crystal Springs Books. I can't remember the website, but she's great for elementary kids. I don't know the ages you teach though...
Good luck!! Brain Breaks are so important and so worth it!!

Ok, Tara, I just asked my soon to be 6th graders (boy/girl twins) and they both said they wouldn't like to do ANY of those songs in class in front of their friends, especially my son. They said at a school dance that would be ok but NOT in the classroom. Just though you would like to know. I was asking them for ideas for you and this is what they said.

I'm hoping that since my classes will have a max of 10 then it won't be quite so intimidating!! But even if they get up and goof around to the songs they are at least moving and getting their blood flowing.

I'm going to try it and if it is a total waste then I'm only out the cost of the songs on iTunes. They (the powers that be) want us to use different modalities in

I didn't think of the country line dances...duh!

I'm going to look for some of those other ones now too...Monster Mash is a great one!!
