Songs about playing a musical instrument

Another Christmas song.

The Twelve Days of Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming
Eleven pipers piping

Seventy-Six Trombones from The Music Man

Seventy-six trombones led the big parade
With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand.
They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuo-
Sos, the cream of ev'ry famous band.

Seventy-six trombones caught the morning sun
With a hundred and ten cornets right behind
There were more than a thousand reeds
Springing up like weeds
There were horns of ev'ry shape and kind.

There were copper bottom tympani in horse platoons
Thundering, thundering all along the way.
Double bell euphoniums and big bassoons,
Each bassoon having its big, fat say!

There were fifty mounted cannon in the battery
Thundering, thundering louder than before
Clarinets of ev'ry size
And trumpeters who'd improvise
A full octave higher than the score!

Actually the song isn't sung in this video, but it is of Hugh Jackman tap dancing to it in the Broadway show currently on Broadway:

Fiddler on the Roof:

(Tevye)
"A fiddler on the roof. Sounds crazy, no?
But in our little village of Anatevka,
you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof,
trying to scratch out a pleasant,
Simple tune without breaking his neck. It isn't easy.
You may ask, why do we stay up there if it's so dangerous?
We stay because Anatevka is our home...
And how do we keep our balance?
That I can tell you in one word... Tradition."

(Chorus)
Tradition, tradition... tradition"

Superstar - The Carpenters

"Long ago, and, oh, so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here, it's just the radio
Don't you remember, you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby
I love you, I really do"

/
"Late In The Evening," Paul Simon
Then I learned to play some lead guitar
I was underage in this funky bar
And I stepped outside to smoke myself a "J"
And when I come back to the room
Everybody just seemed to move
And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play
And it was late in the evening
And I blew that room away

"Till It Happens To You," Corinne Bailey Rae
It used to feel like heaven
Used to feel like May
I used to hear those violins playing our strings like a symphony
Now they've gone away
Nobody wants to face the truth
But you won't believe what love can do
Till it happens to you
Till it happens to you

"On Broadway," George Benson
They say that I won't last too long on Broadway
I'll catch a Greyhound bus for home, they all say
But they're dead wrong, I know they are
'Cause I can play this here guitar
And I won't quit till I'm a star on Broadway

"When We're Human," from The Princess and the Frog
If I were a human being
I'd head straight for New Orleans
And I'd blow this horn so hot and strong
Like no one they'd ever seen

Louis Armstrong, Mister Sidney Bechet
All the boys gonna step aside
When they hear this old ex-gator play
Listen!

When I'm human
As I hope to be
I'm gonna blow this horn till the cows come home
And everyone's gonna bow down to me
Thank you! Thank you!
Aw, thank you! I love you too, baby!

"Drum Boogie," from Ball of Fire (w/Gene Krupa)
(Boogie!) You hear the piano rompin'
(Boogie!) You see the drummer stompin'
Drumboogie, drumboogie (Drumboogie!)
The cat's a killer-diller
Drumboogie, drumboogie
The drum boogie-woogie...

Two more Christmas songs:

Silver Bells
"Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day"

Jingle Bells
"Jingle Bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way"

I love Prince, this song came to mind...

Granted this particular song of his is kind of dumb, and I think the "tambourine" might be a metaphor for something sexual. :rotfl2:

I thought for sure that someone would have already picked this one!

Green Tambourine- The Lemon Pipers:
