Son wants an expensive Star Wars toy

The LEGO version cost only a few bucks more and is a high quality product for which I'd have no reservations spending $100+ on.

I saw your thread and this weekend TRU is having a sale with SW 30% off.

My DD one year wanted a doll of some sort but never really said anything. When asked if she had a good Christmas she said yes but Santa didn't bring me XYZ doll. :rotfl2: The next Christmas she asked for it again! She really wanted that doll. She has always has known what she has wanted. At 2 she knew she wanted Santa to bring her a bike. Every year it gets to be more expensive than the last. I miss when they were little and you could get anything from the $$ store and they were happy. It will be bittersweet when she is to old for Santa to visit.

Its kind of early for him to be dead set on what he wants from Santa... Another solution is for you to create an email account for Santa and let him email santa... then Santa can email back and explain that the elves aren't able to get one but that they have an idea for something they think he will like better... have them say they want it to be a surprise or something and then he will be more likely to accept whatever he gets as being special... you could also send him another email from Santa on Christmas asking if he was happy with whatever he got...

It seems to work better than just telling them Santa can't do this or that, because they don't want to believe you... but when Santa sends them a letter or email they believe.
This worked for me too. I said Santa can't make electronics.

And I may add...I guess asking for a Star Wars toy isn't too bad, my DS8 is convinced this year that he is going to ask Santa for a winning lottery ticket!!

Santa brought that AT-AT last Christmas. Last year Costco had it for $69, so well below what TRU is asking now. It is very very large, lots of little pieces, and would be a lot more fun if it could walk on it's own or something.

My 6 year old has been asking for a Star Wars Imperial AT-AT All Terrain Armored Transport Vehicle for weeks. I told him that it is over $100 and it is a very expensive for a toy. He wants to ask Santa for it. Does anyone have some ideas on how I can get this toy reasonable? I just have a hard time spending that much on a toy.

Whew, wait until the get to be teenagers and want ipods, ipads and smartphones. :scared1:

Is he really into SW. One of my sons was really a batman fanatic so we did not have a problem with maybe spending extra on a batman toy. My other son bounced all over the place so we tended not to drop a big chunk on a special toy for him because in 1 week it would be out of favor.

It's a bit early in the game so I would probably keep an eye out for sales and stuff.

When my kids asked for expensive things like that I made sure to explain that this toy is special and if he really wants it, it maybe the only gift from Santa that they would get.
Both of my sons were born near christmas (which makes it a very expensive season.) so some times I would suggest they save their money from birthdays and buy the big ticket item.

This is off topic, but what you said caught me. Up until the Christmas before my mom passed away, I always got a Santa gift and I was 34 that Christmas (of course I knew where it really came from). That was just something special between mom and I, and it was always something really special that maybe I hadn't asked for, just a little mom/daughter trinket.

My ds got that a couple years ago, and it is played with almost everyday. We have a bunch of SW vehicles and I don't mind spending the money on them because my dses are SW fanatics. I know quality wise they are not worth the cost, but I would rather spend $100 on a toy that gets used daily, then $50 on a toy that gets used occasionally.

OP, you will be able to find it on sale before Christmas, TRU just had all the SW stuff for 30% off last week, I'm sure they will do that again. If you aren't sure he'll play with it then maybe suggest other smaller vehicles instead. My dses started off with just the figures, then moved up to small vehicles so by the time my one wanted the AT thing I knew it would be something he would play with alot.

Ah that's so sweet! I'm sorry about your Mom. That is so sweet. Thanks for sharing that with me. Santa leaves me gifts at my Mom's house and stuffs her a stocking on occasion. I'm 35 and look forward to it. I hope I can continue with my DD. To me you are never to old for Santa or Disney. My DD is 10 and most kids her age don't believe in him but she still does. I get grief from friends and family about it but I actually enjoy the magic it brings to Christmas.

I can't believe I'm reading about throwing away or selling Star Wars toys!!!

I have 2 nephews one 39 and 0ne 29 and they both still have all their Star Wars toys. My DS 13 still has all his and still gets the Lego ones. Many of my DD's guy friends in college have many Star Wars things and their toys back at home. They would have cardiac arrests if they thought any Star Wars was thrown away .

My son has that toy and he played with it a lot when he was younger. It is big and you mostly have to leave it in one place but they played with it a lot. i also think tho that you have to have the kind of house that you don't mind leaving toys set up and left for a few days (like the battle scene in the living room of another poster) If you are going to insist it be picked up and put away each time I don't think it will get played with as much as if it can stay set up for a few days. I also agree with the doors coming off and just leaving them off while playing.

sometimes the absolute joy they get and you get to witness when they get that one toy they really really wanted (even tho you know it won't live up to expectation or be worth it) is worth the expense.

It also is a good lesson for later in life, if it doesn't last or isn't as great as they hoped, that sometimes things aren't as great as advertised and Mom actually does know what she is talking about.

No kidding!! At least donate it to Goodwill or someplace!

My boys are playing with 30yr old SW toys and yes they still come apart but they've learned to put them back together.

Also OP, if your DS is rougher on toys there is another version of the AT-AT that is from the Galactic Hero line that is very sturdy and won't break. I think it's around $30.

There are some really cool preschool star wars this season. A milineam falcon that my son has his eye one. It is very similar to galactic heroes which they don't sell anymore.
