We heading to Walt Disney World, and my 6 year son just broke his foot yesterday and is going to be put in a walking cast today. We are going to the doctors today to see how long he has to be in it for. If anything he might be able to get it off a day before we leave but doubt it.

Any advise about going to WDW with a son in a cast?

Go to Guest Services in any oth parks and ask for a Guest Assistance Card to allow you to use a stroller as a wheelchair. That would allow you to bring the stroller into lines where strollers are not usually allowed (it gets treated just like a wheelchair).
The CMs will not prohibit him from going on any rides with a cast - the warnings are posted and it's up to you to decide what you should not go on.

Check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the disABILITIES Board for more information.

How strange the same thing happened to my then 6yr. old son right before our Nov. 2004 trip. It was no problem at all, infact if it was not for pictures I'd forget he ever had it. He rode everything (including RNR and space mt.) I think he was just so caught up in the excitiment he forgot about it most of the time. I'm sure your son will do the same, if you don't make a big deal about it neither will he. Good luck and have a magical trip. Melissa :flower:

Ask if your DS can have a waterproof cast. My DS had one and was not slowed down at all. He went on every ride and had a blast. No worries about splash mountain or any other ride getting his cast wet and the pools were great. I can't tell you how many other casted kids came up to him and told him how lucky he was to have a waterproof cast, while he swam and they watched.

Also use the cast as an autograph spot. We save his cast from signing until we got to DL and had all the characters sign it. When he went back to school and showed all the kids his signatures he was a hit! We had hoped he could save the cast as a souvenier but it was yucky and the doctor insisted on throwing it out.

I was so worried about how the trip would go with an injured child and we hardly noticed a difference. In fact I really think he got extra attention from cms and characters because of his temperary disability. Enjoy!

Good luck!

Poor little guy! My dd broke her wrist before a WDW trip. We got a cast cover that enabled her to go swimming, keeping the cast completely dry. Even the orthopedist didn't know about these covers, but I found out about it through this board!! I'll try and remember the name of them and post it.

Found it....try www.xerosox.com
I didn't get it on the internet but found a local pharmacy that stocked them.

Hope your son heals quickly!!
