Sometimes this really ticks me off!

And it starts young too. Ever hear a 9 year old say, "I don't need to work. They give you money for having kids. You get free food and they pay your rent." Yes that was part of a conversation between 4th graders.

It has nothing to do with feeling superior to others. It gets pretty annoying when you see women with 3, 4, 5 or more kids that keep popping them out without even thinking about how they need to support them. So as long as my tax dollars are paying for them to get assistance, I think I have the right to complain.

See - I don't quite understand this.. At least in the areas I have lived in, life on welfare and food stamps is nothing that anyone would actually look "forward" to - or go out of their way to obtain.. Housing is horrendous- not to mention in the most dangerous of areas; food stamp allowances are extremely low; very few doctors will accept Medicaid, so getting decent health care is next to impossible; clothing allowances are basically zero - or pretty close to it; lots of restrictions on what you can or can't have; no extra money to spend as one chooses; etc.. It's an ugly life - and I just can't imagine that there are tons of people who would choose to live that way if there were other options available.. The word "budgeting" takes on a whole new meaning if you're unfortunate enough to have to rely on welfare and food stamps..

I know it's a life I wouldn't "choose" - basically it isn't a "life".. It's just barely existing from day to day..:confused3

Then Ann, you need to take a trip over to where I grew up. Woman well younger then me who had baby after baby and lived off of welfare with no intentions of working.

They knew how to work the system. I knew these people I went to school with them, before they dropped out to have their 3, 4 5 kids by the age of 21.

Buying cigarettes and things food stamps weren't supposed to be used for with the change they received from the food stamps.

My neighbor who got pregnant in high school, lived with her sister in a duplex. When the pregnant neighbor had her baby, she got her GED and started beauty school. Paid for by the state, books, tuition, transportation, food , spend money, even day care for the baby. She was 2 months from graduation and quit. You know why, she told me I don't want to work, I'd rather stay home with my baby and collect welfare.

There's pride for you. :rolleyes1

I didn't grow up in that kind of world either. However, the area I teach in is very different from anything I ever knew when I was 9 and 10. It's shocking that that is the goal of some children. They think that that kind of life is okay because they don't know anything else. It's sad. I try the best I can to inform them that there are other opportunites for them. Many of these kids can't even imagine that there is life outside of their city. They think everyone in the country lives the way they do.

Hire ex-cons. Not only are they very grateful that you took a chance on them that many wouldn't and work hard, but you also get the government to pay you back for their salary for a year.

You have to fill out paperwork, but you get people who work hard and you don't have to pay for it. :) Filling out those forms isn't such a chore when you have hard-working employees that you don't have to pay. Win-win.

Sometimes their wives/girlfriends make you stuff and send it in for Christmas or your birthday or whatever, too.

Is this really true?

Wow! I just can't imagine..:confused3

There was a time - when I was married to my first DH - that I knew we qualified for food stamps after he lost his job, but I refused to apply for them.. I figured there was someone out there who needed them more than we did and we could find a way to "make do" - which we did..

How is the view up there on your pedestal? You don't have the faintest idea what these people's situations are or how they got there. You are making mean sweeping judgements based on pure speculation. I hope you never find yourself on the receiving end of that kind of treatment.:sad2:

That poster is simply saying that she is tired of seeing people work the system when they are healthy enough to work. Instead the more kids they have the more money they get from the GOV.....so why work.

I also am tired of paying for the system workers. Disabled individuals that are truly disabled no problem. People like my sister that has no health ins. for her girls yet she got 10,000 to go to Costa Rico for vacation than after cosmetic surgery. But gee to broke to get them clothes or ins. Yes she gets food stamps....is also a trained parametric but will only work 2 days a week but has investments in Costa Rico...that's where the money came from.

I have known many people that work the system....that are capable of work. But just dont. The system IMO keep people down

But dont worry help is on the way....with Obama's TAX plan they to will be getting a check in the mail even if they are not working :thumbsup2

What I seen is the person with food stamps buy a $1.50 half gallon of milk, hand the cashier a $20.00 food stamp, she gives the person change who in turn buys the beer and cigarettes.

Isn't that called working the system?

Is this a new country? :rolleyes1

No, that isn't at all what she said. She was making sweeping hateful generalizations about people that came into her work without knowing their stories at all. That. is. wrong.

Nobody like's people that take advantage of the system but you can't tell who they are by how they look. I'm glad Obama promises to give the vast majority of us tax cuts and go after the people that have been using their accountants and tax shelters to pay a fraction of what the rest of us has had to pay for the last eight years. I just heard McCain's newest brilliant plan is to cut the capital gains tax in half. :eyeroll: Yay, more help for the rich people!

Or like I found out this weekend, sell them on the street for less then their value so they can buy drugs! :thumbsup2

You seen that? Really? How long ago?

Would you be surprised to know that all states use EBT, not paper "stamps?"

I think you are fabricating a story.

What I wanna know is where are they getting milk at that price!

:rotfl:

Wow. I'm speechless.

Why? Because I would actually expect somebody to be able to afford to feed a child that they chose to bring into this world? Or because I listed alternatives for people that choose to have baby after baby (after baby) and are unable to feed them without the help of the government?

I'm glad Obama promises to give the vast majority of us tax cuts......

Actually, I am kind of angry that he wants to give MORE money to those that don’t even pay taxes. It will enable them to continue to make irresponsible choices.

food stamp allowances are extremely low

According to the USDA website, you get $700 for a family of five. You can include children up to 22 in that figure:eek: 22 :scared: Please go to work and help your family :headache: That doesn’t include WIC, which is also given to the children five and under n the household.

lots of restrictions on what you can or can't have;

Not true. You can buy anything with food stamps, except for prepared foods. So, you can go and buy steaks and soda and lobster. Many of us have witnessed this in our local grocery store.

….very few doctors will accept Medicaid,

Again, not true. Every doctor I know will accept Medicaid. They are guaranteed to get paid, as it comes from the government.

I think the programs are WONDERFUL for people who need a step up. The ones that have fallen on bad times:hug:

I think when you make a career out of the welfare system (like MANY generations do around these parts) it is beyond atrocious. I think people who are on welfare and have baby after baby should have to attend a meeting where it is explained to them that no more monies will be handed to them, as they are irresponsible leeches on our society:thumbsup2

That is not true. My daughter is special needs and recieves a small amount of SSI. Because of this, she qualifies for Medicaid. Our insurance which is Aetna pays first and what is left is covered by Medicaid. It took forever to find peds that would take the Medicaid.
