Sometimes I feel lowly

All I know is I rely on the mail 6 days a week to help run my business...

Me too. I don't know what I would do without the postal workers in the USA and Canada. :)

All I can say is that I know how it is...

I currently live in a whos who town as well. All the moms have the mink coats, pressed pants, perfectly made up, plastic surgery, the whole shabang... if they work, its lawyers, doctors, or something like that...

If they don't work, they prance around town in thier tennis skirts and talk about the maids...

Mind you, I am a secretary. Soon I will be unemployed since we willb e moving away from this fou fou town... I like being a secretary, it works for me. I work at a university, and I can tell you how many people just looked at me like I had three heads whe they found out I WASNT a professor.

My father has been with the postal service for 20 years! First as a CDL 18 wheeler truck driver, now as a body and fender repairman. Its not a fun job, not glamourous (his words), but very very important. He tells me of the horror stories of the post office. (BTW, he works at Hamilton Township NJ distribution center, which is still CLOSED due to the anthrax thing.. he had a person work there DIE!)

My kids so look forward to the mail everyday.. and take turns getting on the porch for it...

You are important, trust me on this.

The best move for us is to move out of this fou fou town and go to a more "real" area. We are so excited to be going to a place where the people are real, and the town has more schools than country clubs (truth in my fou fou town, more country clubs than schools!), and the people are measured by who they are and not what they do...

Don't worry about what you do... stay true to who you are..

Cindy (the soon to be unemployed mom, who doesn't do tennis!)

I can only echo what the others have said. You are very important. Don't let anyone make you feel differently.

This is the point I tried to make a week or so ago...that ALL jobs are important.

Yours certainly is and I know when the responsibilites of your job swell at certain times of the year, you must feel more overworked and less appreciated than usual.

Chin up and KNOW that it truly is NOT what you DO for a living that counts...

You are a valuable human no matter what job you choose to do or NOT to do. :)

I'll ditto donald's daisy
Your job is no less important than any of the others you mentioned.

We need all sorts of different people in our community & world to make things run smoothly! I understand that you are a carrier, but I interact everyday with the PO people at the counter and they are truely a joy! I almost always leave the PO office smiling because of their kindness & sense of humor. I've NEVER thought that they had a lowly job.

A degree or job position do NOT make the person!!! Their heart & soul make the person!!!

You know I do know what you mean and so does my DH. In fact at work he tells folks I am a SAHM & I must be a rare bird that at his work.
If I go out (rare) with co workers, yes they sit and blab about their work and I really do not have anything to add. It is at that time I wish I had a high powered job too.

But then I have my mom to remind me of who I am. She is an LPN in a nursing home. Some of the folks there are very rich and some of the were "who's who" in their day. Now they are in the Alzheimers unit. She takes care of them.
So in the end it doesn't matter. What matters is that you are doing what feels right for your family.
Yep we all have those days!!!!

I really believe, it's not what you DO, it's who you ARE that makes a person special.

My DH had a very good, fairly high status job for 20 years that he absolutely hated and it made him miserable. Finally, about 3 years ago we decided that life is too short to be miserable and he became the at-home-parent. Now when we go places like you did with your childs party, he sometimes feels he is just a bit "lowly" and I need to remind him how much happier and easier life is for him now. He loves what he does, and who he IS, which wasn't the case a few years ago.

We talk about what he wants to do in the future, as our child get's older, and I really hope he chooses to focus on doing something he enjoys for less money, than doing something that makes him miserable again but comes with money and status.

If you enjoy what you do, then you are probably a few rungs up the ladder in my opinion than many people with more prestigous positions....

BytheSea - that is EXACTLY what happened with my DH as well. It was the best decision we ever made.

EZ - the jobs come and go... it is relationships with people that are enduring. We remember loved individuals LONG after they have left us. I have found that when someone truly CARES about what they are doing - feel confident or passionate about it - that they come across as truly capable and interesting. Much rather stand next to that person at a function then someone who wants to impress on me the salary they earn or who they rub shoulders with.

People who laugh often, love intensely, have real experiences to draw upon, and who choose wisely when faced with the tough everyday choices ... those are the folks that are elevated in this life.

I hope these posts give you the renewed perspective to see yourself for what you are... a unique individual with beauty and strength all your own. Let them shine. :)

Hugs sweetie, I know exactly how you feel. I am a teacher, and all my daughters friends are either stay at home mom's because DH makes a ton, or they are in these fancy smancy positions. Not that being a teacher or a postal worker is bad, but next to them, I know how you feel. Lots of hugs to you.

A good friend of mine says to me all the time, you do what you have to do for your family. This is what I have to do and it is what you have to do, to see that your family is comfortable and happy. Just for that you should be proud :)

I just wanted to say that you guys are the most awesome support system in the world. You all gave me lots to think about as I was delivering my route yesterday. I was getting teary eyed reading your replies, I read them over several times, they all made such good sense, and I did feel much better. God bless you all, and Happy Holidays. You are all very dear to me- Eileen:D
