Somethings up at DVC

This IS peaking my curiosity!

I often receive mail soliciatations asking if I am interested in selling my DVC points to a timeshare re-sale. This sounds more like an outside survey company though. Keep us posted.

Unless I get a confirmation from DVC I would not answer anything.

So far they've only asked my age "group" (I think 45-65 is broad enough) and my Email address. But, like others, I was surprised that they had much info already. I was under the impression when I bought DVC that they didn't sell members' names to other sales groups. Don't know why I thought that. But just in case, I think I will give MS a call this week.

Just got the call today. As with previous posters, they already had all of my info, except age group and internet address. I did agree to participate in the survey as well.

I wish I would have gotten my Vacation Magic instead of this!

They have worked with Sonesta and Hilton Hotels in the past. Haven't found anything on the web or in the news yet linking them to DVC or Disney. Will keep on searching.:)

I don't know about this one but most of these are where they tell you how bad timesharing is, then they offer to take yours in trade toward their "vacation club". Either way we can be certain that DVC is not related to this endeaver and that nothing good can come of it.

Fairfield is the timeshare going up close to CBR. It's not on Disney property but is surrounded by same. It should be a good location, hopefully they will create a great resort.

Our deeds are recorded and are a matter of public record. To my knowledge DVC does NOT divulge member info, unless this is an "official" DVC survey. Otherwise, it is probably a company getting the name from the county clerk and using it as a sales tool. Either is possible until someone actually gets and reads the survey.

Thanks, Chuck S! I knew they could get it that way, but you reinforced my hope that they didn't get it from DVC giving it out or worse-selling it.

Hi,
Pretty new to posting but have reciced great advise from reading alot of past postings.
I just recieved my paperwork yesterday for my purchase on BCV from DVC. Reading through the various things in which I have to sign, I saw a sheet which I have to sign and send back if I DONT want Disney to release my information to various uotside sources. So unless you advise them to not release your information they can.
It is a mute point though, as stated by Chuck S, it is a matter of public record, and anybody can get ahold of that information.
As long as you are vague with your answers you shouldn't worry too much. But when they start asking birthdays and SS #s, or membership #s, think before answering.
Nothing that a good Call Zapper won't fix!

Just out of curiosity, if any of you that received that call have caller ID, what did the box say? I received two calls on Friday from the same place a couple of hours apart and they didn't leave a message. I was just wondering if they were trying to get me too.

Thanks

While we were waiting at the bus stop at OKW on Monday 2/10 a cast member approached DH and I to ask if we would be interested in participating in a discussion group about Disney accommodations. For our time we would be given $75 Disney dollars! As it turned out they only wanted one of us so I went while DH hung out at ESPN Club. The discussion was at the BW convention center. When I went in they gave me a printed questionnaire that asked questions about your most recent trip to WDW. It went on to give several categories of accommodations with discriptions of each, such as Basic, Deluxe, Upscale, and Luxury. Then there were several pages with different scenarios and ask you to choose which you would be most interested in. If this were available would you purchase more points. There were about 10 DVC members including me there. The questionnaire was written and the study being done by an independent firm. Our purpose was to help with the wording and clarity of the questions. I think the whole idea is DVC is trying to get input on current memberships and future properties.
They offered to pass along other comments we had concerning DVC. The most common was discount passes. I also suggested we would like a way to track points and ressies online.
I hope this helps. I wouldn't be concerned about taking the survey, it really is DVC related.

Got the call today, same as everyone else. They had all my info all ready, just asked age group and email adress. I hadn't read this thread yet. (how is missed it yesterday I will never know.) I hope that info provided helps DVC learn our opinions, but after reading this I am doubtful.

We will see in 2 weeks (we will be back from 1st DVC trip by that time.)

I got the same phone call the last week in January & gave my e-mail address, as I've done a number of WDW surveys. They said I'd get the survey in 1 week. Well, I didn't and began to feel that I'd been an idiot for giving my e-mail address! Then, finally on 02/11 I did receive an e-mail & it was from the same group that does the postcard surveys. It did take about 30 minutes and was pretty detailed. Boy, was I relieved!

Would this have shown up as WCS on a caller ID? We've received multiple calls from this caller at a LD number with no message and no ability to return the call? Did anyone who received these calls have caller ID and note what it said?
Thanks!!!

Hello all,
I hope to shed some light as well as some background on the marketing research business. I'm a professional marketing research consultant (and DVC owner) and have been for many years.

I work with a number of large national companies to help them collect information and get feedback from their customers or potential customers. The situation being described is not unusual for a company to use. As Jessica noted earlier, DVC may contract with an independent research company to help them get information that will be useful to them in making key decisions about their properties. DVC gives the independent company names and phone numbers of DVC owners (the sample) to contact. The independent company will then ask for participation in a study and collect email addresses for the purpose of doing the actual survey.

Oftentimes the study is to test new product ideas or measure customer satisfaction. Companies use this information to make lots of big decisions about marketing, advertising, new product development, etc. When done legitimately, it's a great way to get customers involved. Unfortunately, the annoying sales calls (positioned as research) have given real research a bad name. Those of us in the business work hard to maintain the ethical standards set forth by the industry (which includes not divulging individual names or results to our clients but reporting information in total).

While I have no knowledge of this particular study or research company, I just wanted to set the record straight on legitimate research. As with any personal information, I would be careful to not divulge confidential info to anyone I don't know. You can always ask to contact the research company directly (get the name and phone number) to verify the validity of the survey before you participate. Legitimate companies will have no problem providing this information to you.

I hope this helps! Our family has been fortunate to be involved in a couple of different focus group sessions while visiting WDW in the past. It's always been fun and informative and we get paid well for our time.

While I have't received a phone call survey about DVC specifically, I did receive a call in early January asking if I had visited WDW in November 2001 (I had). What's strange is I traveled with other people, so my name was no-where on the reservation. I didn't purchase tickets at the park either. No telling how they determined it, but no matter. I'm not the paranoid type.

However, I did get the same message, that they would be emailing a link to a survey. I received it a few weeks later and filled it out. I recognized it as the same company that does the postcard surveys, as well as the company who did the survey on last year's Disneyana event. The email address that it was sent from was something (can't recall) @ disney.com

At the end of the survey I was given the option to receive $10 or donate that $10 to Give Kids the World. I opted to donate.

Hmmm, wonder if I'll get another call?

Out on the Disney Vacation Club web site under member news, they explain about the current survey and the privacy of this survey.

Denise

Thanks allforpooh.:) Glad DVC put it on the website.

Maybe this explains the "unknown" calls we have been getting over the last couple of days. We never answer when our caller id does not provide a name. We figure, if it's important, they will leave a message on the answering machine. But, seriously, we have had at least 25 "unknown" calls over the last couple of days. It's getting to the point where it's annoying enough that I'm ready to pick up the call to find out who it is calling so often. Maybe this explains it. I wouldn't provide any information.
