Something that has always Bugged me about CS at MK

I was watching I think Yard Crashers on DIY and they had a show from I guess at least last year where they took a family and they helped turn the Old Adventure Land Terrace CS location into some sort of M&G for MVMCP.

That got me thinking. The MK has two CS restaurants that are closed and one thats only open seasonally.

What happened? I know it was a cost cutting move but if there was a demand they would be open.

Did Americans start eating less or less people go to the MK? Yea right.

Was it poor planning when they designed the park or did MK visitors eating patterns just change like they now park hop more or they eat more at the Monorail resorts. It can't be that they are eating at the MK's TS more because MK has only a few TS compared to the other parks.

My only other thought was that they feed people at the other CS more efficiently.

Just wondering? :confused3

Not sure about the other CS places at MK but I know when we went to MK in October I was looking forward to getting a Dole Whip float at Aloha Isle but when we got back to it around 9:30 it wasn't even open. That made me mad because I knew, with it raining, that we weren't going to be in the park long enough to circle back around to it, so I went a 10 day trip and never got a Dole Whip float or a Funnel Cake.

That's what confuses me about the Fantasyland expansion. According to the info that is out so far, at least at lunchtime the expansion will be adding two new CS restaurants, Gaston's Tavern and Be Our Guest (which is said to be CS at lunch and TS at dinner).

However, the last thing MK needs outside of peak attendance periods is new CS restaurants if they don't have the staff or business to operate all the CS restaurants they already have. The park is desperately in need of more TS restaurants, though.

My post was really not about your situation. They probably don't open until maybe 11 because very few people are looking for frozen desserts at 9:30. Just like they don't serve lunch until 11.

My post was about places that are pretty much permanently closed and will never reopen.

My thought was when they were laying out the park they expected guests to eat at the resorts. This was when WDW was MK, the two monorail resorts and Fort Wilderness.

I am so glad someone else finds this odd. I don't understand why they are serving CS at Be Our Guest for lunch and TS for dinner! So that means they will be adding 2 new CS for lunch? Both, I assume, will be practically next door to each other. Both will be Beauty and the Beast themed. It seems to me that Be Our Guest would be better as a TS for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Demand for ADR's are going to be insane if only dinner is offered. Any word if Be Our Guest will be 1 point or 2 on the DDP?

I mean why offer 2 new CS for lunch, when they don't even utilize the ones they already have in MK?

. . . the last thing MK needs outside of peak attendance periods is new CS restaurants if they don't have the staff or business to operate all the CS restaurants they already have . . .

1) Yes and no.
2) But, think of LOCATION not TYPE.
3) As for eatery type
. . . a TS is a destination (characters)
. . . it can be placed anywhere, since you go on purpose
. . . you make a specific time to eat (ADR)
4) A location determines when you get ready to eat
. . . the park is designed for flow
. . . as you work your way around, it takes an pre-estimated time
. . . most amusement parks plan QS spots for such timed flow
. . . in this example, you reach Fantasyland by hunger time *
. . . assuming you don't jump to the land early for kiddie rides
. . . the other eateries are passed before hunger sets in

* This is why people eat at Pinocchio's even though the food quality is
only average and the menu choices are limited. And, why Tortuga Tavern
gets little patronage, even in busy times.

1. Having one of the new places CS for lunch and TS for dinner makes perfect sense. I made an observation that all CS were all packed for lunch and dead for dinner.

It seems that with most everyone on the DDP they generally eat CS lunch and TS dinner in order to get the best value out of the plan. Also most people eat lunch at the same time 12:00 to 1:00, dinner can be from 5 to maybe 7:30. So having a split restaurant makes it a good idea.

Also haven't a few TS restaurants dropped lunch? :confused3

2. I doubt it will be 2 credits.

I see your point. The reason why the closed CS are closed is like a lot of things, location. They were too close to other places.

There's a report that Be Our Guest most likely won't have characters at dinner, but it may have something on the order of the Remy animatronic that appears at Chefs de France.

Still don't see the logic of putting the Gaston's Tavern CS and the BOG lunch CS right next to one another. Unless one is considerably larger than the other.

Maybe one is more of a quick snack cart like Golden Oak outside Pecos Bill.

That's not what the artist conceptions of Gaston's show. But it wouldn't be the first time they changed things.

I think it's more likely it will be a setup more like La Hacienda/La Cantina, where you get the food at Gaston's and carry it into BOG to sit and eat it.

I can tell you why we won't usually eat in MK: lack of alcohol. We will eat a CS lunch to make it through the day, but we leave for dinner. Alcohol is a major money maker of TS and there is limited profit in food, hence why the majority of MK dining has an entertainment aspect to it to entice customers to boost the per occupant of the restaurant occupant.
