My family and I are trying to do some new things this trip, so I made ressies for Mickeys Backyard BBQ and I need some reviews! What is the food like, atmosphere, characters, etc.... Any opinions are appreciated, I'm going  trying to find "new" stuff to do!! Thanks! :flower:

My family and I went back in 2001. The food was okay. My DH is only a pop drinker so he was upset that there was nothing for him to drink. My DS's were 5 & 3 at the time. They enjoyed the character interaction but were not into the dancing. The did have a man do rope tricks towards the end, but by then my boys wanted to go back to swim. I am glad that we did it once, but I was not impressed with it enough to go back.

If you go to allearsnet and do a search you will find TONS of reviews on this! It was really helpful to me when we were deciding between it and the Hoop Dee Do (we chose HDD and it was great!)

This has nothing to do with the Backyard BBQ, but if you are looking for new things to do, have you tried dinner and a Wishes FW cruise? We have done that twice now and it is just enchanting! We have dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe and then relax down by the beach at Wilderness Lodge waiting for the boat. You take a mini cruise around Bay Lake, then watch the Electric Lights parade and then cruise over to Seven Seas Lagoon to watch Wishes from the water. It is just magnificent! You can order drinks and dinner for the cruise but it's very expensive. We've only done the cruise from WL, but you can do it from any of the MK resorts - maybe take the kids to Chef Mickey's and then do it? I think they have a Pirates fireworks cruise from there as well...if you get a good "captain" you also get tons of Disney trivia and info and secrets about the fireworks, as well!

Sorry if off topic, but we go down twice a year and I know what it's like to want to throw something new and fun into the trip. Our son loves this and so do we :)

We did Mickey's Backyard BBQ last Thursday May 12th. When we arrived they ask you to stand in line for a family photo. They come by the tables later on and offer 2 - 5x7's, 2 - Wallets a magnet and a keychain for $26.95. They never made it to our table, but I did see them and did buy the photo's which is so unlike me, I guess I'll attribute it to the magic of Disney.

I thought the food was great it was all you can eat Ribs (especially good), Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Cole Slaw, Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad, Beans and Cake. For drinks they only offer Fruit Punch, Lemonade and Beer, no soda. The entree's were delicious, the cake was okay too much frosting, which of course kids love the best.

There were hundreds of people there and in order to see the characters you gotta go out and dance with them, which my daughter did and she loved it I got a lot of great pictures. The characters take a break and during that break was a trick roping demonstration in which they take two older kids as volunteers and teach them a trick. They have a sign up sheet for birthdays to announce during the show and someone came out to teach line dancing to all the kids, which I thought was hysterical since he taught the moves kind of fast to such small confused children. Only Mickey Mouse stood outside the eating area to do photos and autographs.

We had a great time and I was glad for the opportunity to see Fort Wilderness the grounds are beautiful and there are peacocks and peahens everywhere.

I'm so glad to read your good review of the :earsboy: BBQ! We are having dinner there next Thursday night. :cool1: It just sounds like something we would love and I'm excited! :Pinkbounc Here's a few questions:
1. What did you wear? Did most people just wear shorts & t-shirts -like "park wear"? Or did people go all out on the country/western thing?
2. Will it be unbearably hot or is there trees, etc... that keep it comfortable?
3. What kind of songs did the band play? Was it country songs off the radio or songs you've never heard before?
4. Did you (or anyone here reading this...) do the carriage rides around Fort Wilderness, too? Is there time for that? Or the Campfire with Chip 'n Dale? Is the BBQ enough for the night or is it possible to cram in a few more activities?
5. Who were the characters there, other than Mickey himself?

Just trying to be prepared! Thanks for your help.

1. Most everyone there had there "park wear" my daughter wore a skirt and matching top with sandals, and I wore capri's and sleeveless top, I don't recall seeing anyone in western wear except the characters.

2. It was not unbearably hot at all, the evening takes place outdoors, but the area is covered and I noticed there were fans.

3. The band played country covers, they were very entertaining, during their break there is a trick roping demonstration, which is incredible and later in the evening a gentleman comes out to teach line dancing.

4. We did not do a carriage ride while there or the Chip and Dale campfire, the bbq itself was a blast and last a couple of hours, and the grounds are very lovely to walk around, lots of peacocks and bunnies everywhere. After the bbq we went back to Magic Kingdom to finish out the evening.

5. The characters that joined us for the evening were: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. All the characters come out and dance with the kids and Mickey, Minnie and Goofy have western wear and Chip and Dale were wearing aprons and chef hats. Only Mickey stayed out after the bbq to sign autographs and pose for photos. The characters do sign autographs on the dance floor and I took lots of great photos of my daughter dancing with all the characters.

Hope that helps ::MickeyMo
