something better than booking 2 rooms?

My family of 4 and my mother booked a trip in September! My mother isn't comfortable sharing a room and would prefer a little more personal space (which I totally understand!). I'm thinking that booking a room for just herself is a waste of money!
Is there a better way to do this? I don't want to spend more money than necessary but keep thinking there must be something better....
Help! :confused3

Is a suite or two bedroom suite in the budget? That way Mom could have her own room and space to herself?

I don't like the suites at ASMu (don't like the pull out bed thing). What other resorts have suites? We could just get adjoining rooms but thought we might get more amenities by pooling our funds!

Check out the DVC villas. They all have 2 bedrooms. I think that if Mom wants a room by herself, and getting a 2 bedroom is out of the question, then I would have her book it.

Nothing like someone being at Disney and feeling as though they don't have their own space.

We have traveled with my family (me, DH, DS & DD) and my Mom as well. The first time we did a 1 bdrm villa. DH & I took the king, for DS we made a "nest" with the king quilt extra blankets and sheets in the master and DD was in a pack & play in the walk in closet.
Nest time we stayed at Pop and requested & received 2 connecting rooms with a door between. DMom & the kids stayed in one room and DH & I stayed in the other (we also requested and received a king room for us). While you would not have to arrange so the kids sleep in your DMom's room, we all loved having the extra space. Kids were able to go to bed, and the adults could be in the other room. Of course you have the space in a 1 bdrm villa, but not the actual beds - and the price of a villa can't compare to 2 rooms at Pop. Just note that the connecting rooms would be a request only and are never guaranteed.
But if you were to do this, the entire family could also make use of Mom's room.

HTH! :wizard:

Are you booking a dining package? If so, there could be a benefit to getting 2 rooms as with packages, everyone in the room has to book the same. Perhaps mom is a light eater and would rather eat just an appetizer for dinner? Or one of your kids is over 10 but also doesn't eat much. That child could be booked in mom's room - both w/o a dining plan. Doing this could save the cost of 2 DDP. Just a thought.

I have to admit (and speaking as a grandmother myself) it would be really nice to have 2 bathrooms with 5 people.

DH and I have rented DVC points (we are not owners) and stayed at OKW in a studio. Ironically, a 1 bedroom villa is about double the cost of a studio, and at OKW each studio has 2 double beds instead of a pull-out sofa. Additionally, the bathrooms are HUGE and they have a kitchenette with small fridge, microwave, and sink.

Though you could not get connected rooms, you might be able to get 2 studios in the same building. At OKW almost all buildings are only 2 stories - and there are only 4-6 rooms to a floor. Studios are always on the end and next to a 1 bedroom with a connecting door (it is locked when groups are not linked).

Doing something like this, you could still buy the QS, DDP or DxDP and possibly spend about the same amount of money ($1,320 for 2 studios for a 1 week stay in September = based on avg rental cost of $10 per point) on the rooms as you would by getting 2 std rooms at a regular resort. There is a rental link right here on the DISboards. Can't hurt to check in to it. Click on SEARCH (dark blue line near top of page) and scroll to DVC-Rent/Trade forum or enter OKW in the Search for box.

Check out Bonnet Creek. We are getting a 2 bedroom (that sleeps 8), 2 bath unit with a full kitchen and washer/dryer for $120 a night. There is a thread titled "We loooooooooove Bonnet Creek" in the Orlando Hotels section.

If you can book through the public offers or if you get a 40% off code, the villas... studios run about the same price as a standard room, however.... we are looking into 2 bedroom villas and the cost is about the same as renting 2 separate rooms plus you get the full kitchen. Try Saratoga Springs or Old Key West

We have stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek several times and the rooms are wonderful. Though not on Disney Property (thus no Disney transportation) they do offer buses to/from the parks several times a day, though we always use a rental car.

This resort overlooks POP Century on one side and Caribbean Beach Resort on the other, so it is in the same physical proximity, though not Disney owned.

Not sure about costs as we use points from friends who are owners. But the rooms are REALLY nice!
