I just got an email from a friend saying they have a new grandchild with first and middle names Ellery Londan. However, no mention of the sex. Do you think it is a girl or a boy? I have no clue.

When Eric had his 7 teeth out this summer, we went to the oral surgeon beforehand for a consult. I guess everywhere before when I've done consults, it was a "free, to get your business" thing. I was amazed to get a bill for $100 - I mean all the guy did was look at what the orthodontist recommended, say "yep, I can do that" and send me out to talk to his staff about scheduling and billing! I thought they'd at least apply it towards our $2200 bill for getting the teeth pulled, but nope!

This is what I was thinking - it should have been applied to your fee for the service. I can see if you were going to go to someone else, then I would be OK at paying the $100, but not this way.

OK...I have a rant that I need to get off my chest...bear with me.

My neighbor and I went to the SPCA this morning to adopt a dog for me. It's a big step since I'm single but I really want a dog now. The dog I picked out and I clicked and thought everything was great.

We sit down with the adoption counseler and he asks me if the dog would ever be outside in the yard. I told him yes and explained that I have a fenced in back yard and the dog would be safe. I told him the dog would not be outside for hours and hours when I'm at work but maybe when I need to run to the store or something like that.

After going over the application and asking more questions, he looks me in the eye and said he would have to DENY the adoption. I was floored as was my neighbor. When I asked why, he said dogs should never be left outside due to the risk of running away, biting someone, neighbor complaint, etc. He then tells me it's their policy and I said I understood but the dog would be safe with me in my home. But since I had already said the dog would be in the back yard, I couldn't take it back. It's kind of like a job interview when you try so hard to impress them and you end up saying something wrong...and not knowing it. I remained calm, got up and walked out.

Karen (my neighbor) was really upset and I should go back in there and talk to a supervisor. I didn't want to do that but it really hurts when you find the right dog and they won't let you take them home due to a trick question..and it purely was a trick question. I would have NEVER thought saying the dog would be outside was grounds for denial. AND...I can't go to the other SPCA shelter because they put your driver's license # in the computer. I guess I'm tagged now that I was denied.

I'm trying to keep a calm head by saying maybe it wasn't meant to be but I'm still emotionally upset about it. She was such a sweet dog and I would have loved to have had her.

I hope someone who says all the right things comes and adopts her. She deserves a good home...one that I apparently can't provide...according to them.

So now I am rethinking the pet whole thing. I was so exciting to find a sweet, loving dog and to have her taken away from me is really hard.

Maybe I'll get a dog someday but right now, I'm not going through this again...I can't...you know?

Now I am mad. They gave up a good home for a sweet dog. Keep after them and keep us informed.

Penny, before I forget...

Joshua & Daniel will be here at home. Brad's parents will stay here with them for the 3 nights that we are gone. My mom and Carol & Deb will be next door (hopefully), so they can help if necessary with getting Joshua to/from school and if the in laws get tired or overwhelmed. Cross everything you can think of that everyone stays healthy and we're able to leave with as little worry on our minds as possible.

I asked Brad on the drive home from the doctor's office how he felt about what she had said. His reaction was pretty much the same as mine. Relief that we have a plan in place. Reassurance that we are doing all we can do to keep our boy healthy.

However, with him, you can add shock when they handed us our copy of the bill. His eyes did the big-wide-as-saucers thing. As soon as we were in the elevator, he said, "Four hundred dollars? For an office visit? I don't want to know what the rest of this is going to run us..."

I told him that, no, he probably didn't want to know and left it at that.

Ouch!

FYI...

Never, never, never... under any circumstances... attempt to buy Valentines at Wal-Mart on the Saturday before Valentine's Day.

I'm going to go curl into a ball and wait for the shuddering to stop.

Try Micheals, then the grocery store and finally Walmart.

Well....guess while I was working, everyone was busy with other stuff too!

Altho, not a good morning in House of Bubba. It would appear he is under the weather.... fever and starting with the cough thing. Immediately pumped medicine into him to head off the cough thing....left untreated, it develops into a nasty, croupy, wheezing cough thing So...started that Then, after I left for work, he apparently spiked a fever....told DH to Motrinize him ...worked like a charm

Says he feels better...was bummed he missed his soccer clinics today ....but, he needs to rest, because tomorrow is his birthday party at Laser Quest and about 25 boys depending on HIM to be there (involves running, so he better get better ) So, I am off to purchase beverage and snacks and paper goods for tomorrow....picking up cake in the morning and having Papa Johns delivered Oh...and have to go buy stuff for goodie bags...will have him help me 'assemble' them tonite....while he is just laying around 'resting'.... Who would have ever thot you'd have to 'rest up' the day before your party?

Poor Bubba. I hope the rest works and he is full of energy to enjoy his party tomorrow.

OK, first the show ... It was me, mom, and sissy. Sissy hated it. Mom liked it but it was not her favorite Disney show by any means. I really enjoyed it. I had a tear in my eye at the end. We had great seats for the show. We had a great dinner before hand (Tony's on 43rd St) which included a pitcher of white sangria which sissy and I split. Yum. The children who played Jane and Michael Banks, my mom and I thought, were wonderful. So talented. Sissy thought they overacted, but they had huge parts and were really great, so mom and I told Sissy she was crazy. Here's the only thing though ... I hate the city. I do. I hate that people approach you left and right asking what you're doing and trying to get you to change your plans. I hate that people tried to recruit me into Scientology when all I really wanted to do was get to the Swatch store. I hate all the people who are asking you to buy stuff or give to charity. Do I look like the person who wants to buy a bumper sticker that says "Cheney is Satan?" Do I? Really? I also hate that City feeling. You know when you come home, and you still feel the "city" on you? So, in short, I wish the restaurant and play were a block away from my little suburban home.

Don’t let the thread stress you. I am still waiting on the Savvy story though.

Glad you had a good time. I want to come up there some day and see lots of plays. Not sure how I will handle the city though. I get annoyed with it in my town of 5000.

marci - i had 5 stitches when i broke my big toe, thought i'd pass out ; cannot imagine sitting still for that many.

DH has "laid down" (how's that for an ephemism ) 2 bikes; both times when a motor vehicle ran into him in traffic; he was stopped once & got hit from behind the 2nd time. He wasn't assigned fault, has quite a case of perm. road rash though.

Joke a nurse told me once in the ER:

I was thinking the same thing. We could all write Todd letters of recommendation from around the country! Probably confuse the shelter how he had so many good friends from so many different places!

The bad part about it was that my folks were out fishing. The babysitter was stuck with a screaming, hysterical kid, along with my younger brothers who were 1 and 6 at the time. No car, no cell phones, not even a regular phone. I have no idea how long it was before they came back in and I was taken to the hospital. I do remember the babysitter soaking washcloths in water and giving them to me to clench my teeth down on rather than screaming! Not a great experience overall!

On a different note, the tanzanite is beautiful! I do remember them pushing it too on our cruises, but never really looked into or at any of them! Maybe I should have!

Oh I bet you were about to freak.

I am off to shower. Mike and I are having a date night at our favorite restaurant. The usual hostess sent her kids to WDW with her in-laws while her and her hubby are in Key West. Thought that was cool! I get very excited to hear the specials. Hope they're good tonight!

I'm feelin ya. . . been there and won't ever do that again. We were actually thinking ahead this year and picked up ours, along with candy bags and all the fixins a couple of weeks ago.

i'm guilty of always stealing a few of my DSs school valentines ; unfortunately, they don't exchange them in homeroom anymore in high school

i'm just giving them each a snack size bag of candy & money taped to it, not very imaginative; yet they'll enjoy it.

DH (mr sweet tooth) will get his usual box (meaning a box double the size of a shoe box) filled with candy-mostly Dots & peppermint patties

We purchased a new camera this week. . . grandson came over today and I've got pics. Haven't posted one since he was born last April. Also got pics of our dog and our foster dog. . . our's - huge golden retriever. . foster - small blonde cocker spaniel. . playing tug of war!
