Tricia & I said the BRAVES!

Hi guys,

I'm stuck home on a boring, snowy Friday night.

Did you know you can buy eyeglass frames on ebay?

My DD needed a new pair of glasses. She showed me where the size is marked on her old pair. She liked the way they fit, so she found an ebay store that sells the brand she wanted and bought them for about 1/3 of the price at lenscrafters. :thumbsup2

They arrived in the mail the other day, and she took them to lenscrafters and they made up her perscription lenses.
Easy peasy!

So....I needed a new pair too. Just went to the eye doc yesterday after work. I wear contacts 75 percent of the time, but in the evenings at home I wear my glasses.
He told me it was time for bifocals....
I was having a hard time knitting when wearing my glasses. When I wore my contacts, I could use my reading glasses.

So....I ordered the same style lenses that DD did, but in another color. :rotfl2:

We can be twins!

Hey that is great to know. Thanks for the info!

Here's my thot's.....

If it's a once in a lifetime, why don't they do Disney for 6 or 7 days, (at least 1 day each park) and then UO/SW etc another 2-3 days and KSC? If they don't want to do that....go with Disney. Sure the kids are older and might be bored, but imho, you need to experience WDW at least once in your lifetime. That said, doing UO/SW etc... should NOT be out of the question for them. With the prices UO and the Flex ticket are, and if they stay offsite  at UO, they should be able to afford a vacation there for a week... Something like that is in NO way AS expensive as WDW. And, staying offsite, they could get 2 rooms nearby, making that cheaper than getting a house. I just feel they shouldn't write 'going to Florida on vacay' off as a 'once in a lifetime' deal....UO is so much cheaper than Disney....much more affordable to do later. Heck, it's so affordable, we go every year! ;)

Good luck and let us know what they decide.....

I agree with Barb. I can not imagine them going all that way and not going to Disney if it is a once in a lifetime trip, especially for a 9 year old girl. Ally loves Universal but she is okay when we go and don't make it to a Uni park but would not be happy if we didn't make it to Disney.

If they can afford tickets to both then I say do both.

DFIL paying for it all and reason I say that was once in a lifetime is we went to Disney , UO for a week and no way we could afford $ 8000.00 that he spent

:scared1: holy moley....nice downpayment on a car!

Barb -

I'm in the market for a new hairstyle. Do you know of any websites that show hairstyles? I googled hairstyles, but didn't find anything to interesting.

I don't know of any websites...I'd have to ask my clients :rotfl2: But, salons have books, and a lot of people buy the hair magazines in the bookstores and walmart/target  When I have a client in the situation of wanting a change, but they don't know where to start, I tell them: tell me what you DON'T want....that helps. You'd be surprised at the pix i see....someone will show me about 5 or 6 pix...and they all look similar....i get the idea ::yes::

I'll ask my clients about websites for ya.....

Barb - your suggestion is certainly what they WANT to do, but about double the cost. Don't know if you've priced MYW....

I know they want to do it all....I'm just saying, they may be able to get BACK to do UO/SW etc sooner than they think BECAUSE it's so much more affordable than WDW. I have priced Disney tickets.... I was actually in the process of saving money to purchase us 10 day non-expiring tickets. Had $600 saved and that was the year we went to UO the first time and loved it. Then, came home, and a couple months later, they offered the buy 1 year get 1 year free AP offer....well, there went the $ for our Disney tickets....as DH doesn't have much desire to go back to WDW anytime soon.

I guess all I can do is make sure they're informed.

::yes:: give them all the info they need...the final decision is ultimately up to them

I'm glad you guys think you can do it cheap, but our experience proved otherwise. Won't say how much we ended up paying, and yeah, I know we did everything, but it was WAY over twice what we'd originally guessed we'd spend. And that original guess was over $5000.

I hope that $5K includes the WDW part of your trip.... WE can do UO cheap....last summer we stayed onsite at UO for 5 nights/6days. Bought a couple (literally) of souvenirs and ate. Total bill for the week for that and the room was just under $1800. Add another $350 for airfare and we were still under $2K for the week. Granted, your friends have 3 (?) more kids than I do...but still....that is WAY more affordable than Disney ....one reason we keep returning to UO

There's no way they're doing this again. I can't believe they're doing it now. I was shocked when she told me today they'd bought air and booked the house. I thought she'd look into everything and decide no way. I don't know where the money's coming from because they literally live paycheck to paycheck. They're not poor, but the usual annual vacation for them is 3-4 days at a cheap hotel a couple hours away, and maybe say a beach or a waterpark for a day. According to her, this is last years (they didn't go anywhere because she'd just started a new job), this years and next years all rolled into one, plus the tax rebate and probably still quite a bit of debt. Guess that's why I just feel so bad to miss Disney totally.

Thanks for all the input - I'll welcome some more!

Well....you'd be surprised....Once they take this trip, they just may wonder what else they are missing down there by going to the local beach for a couple days. Most people I know will save their hearts out and do 'without' things to save for vacation if it's something they really want to do.... ya never know :confused3

I definitely wouldn't make the drive over from Orlando twice though. JMO

I totally agree here. We went to Kenedy on our first trip way back in 93. Then several years ago, while staying at Vero Beach dh & Mikey went back to visit it, since Mikey was a baby the first time. Although both of them really are in to space travel and such neither of them really enjoyed the day. They went to Ron Jon afterwards and enjoyed it more. Sure wouldn't make that trip twice.

Good night Homies and sweet dreams:cloud9:

i am soooooo sorry

forgot to put my brain on tonight.

my apologies to the original Boston, now Atlanta, Braves fans.

when i said indians, in no way did i mean cleveland-
no offence to any indians fans, but i really meant Braves-

came back to tuck you all in:goodvibes

$8K is alotta dough to be spending on a vacation, guess it depends on how many peeps you're paying for:confused3 . I price out a trip, then try to knock at least 1/3 off before i'm happy...even so, very few times have i spent that much in a year:eek: on travel (of course we do have the DVC which knocks off a good hunk of change).

we're beach bums, but when in FLA i just cannot bear to tear myself away from the parks...haven't drug rest of family to SW or BG yet because of the pricing structure of tix both @ U & WDW. Did dip our toes @ Jetty Park once when watching a rocket launch...a reall, un-groomed beach with seaweed & everything lol

If they're not big park people why don't they just do something all inclusive (resort, cruise) or just rent a beach house. However, if MCO is it, i'd say WDW. Only because of the cost of onsite/U (have a horrible feeling the experience isn't quite the same when you're a day guestpopcorn:: ) and the fact that they want to rent a house. it's been awhile since i priced out MYW tix (note to self to check lol); but doesn't the MYW tix price go up dramatically somewhere between the 7 & 10 day period? IMO, parkhopping is a huge waste of $ if you're trying to cut costs.

That said, i was forcefully drug to KSC - LUVED IT!!!!!!!! If you're a certain age, you'll be entralled;) ; course i remember the 1st moonwalk:rolleyes1 . Special tours well worth it, saw the assembly bldg, etc. Call me a sucker, but i was moved/1st brush with anything veering on patriotic bent. We've been planning trips around shuttle launches for the last 5 years...don't think we're going to ever see one with all the delays & the program ending:sad1:

eyes crossing, time to call it a night.

I agree $8000 is a lot. Even before DVC we went for 14 days, stayed at Coronado Springs, 2 adults, 2 children & we spent right around $3000. We even ate out every meal. Now with DVC I have never spent more than $3500 with splurging on nicer meals, plenty of souvy money, & doing both sets of parks. It does not have to cost $10000 or more.

The summer we took the whole family, 24 of us, I guarantee you there was not more than $15000 spent. If you want to then add in a couple thousand for the DVC rooms. That is for 6 different families.

I agree that park hoppers are totally unnecessary and that alone is a savings of $300. Leave out the Water park option and that is another $270. I may have those backwards but together they add up to $570 + tax. That would pay for UO tickets for the 6 of them .

Okay here are the promised pics!

forgot to put my brain on tonight.

where's that tag fairy? :confused3 ....don't worry about it....I do it all the time

I agree....do without hopping...just a waste of money and TIME imho.... and the water park...well, you can do that elsewhere or just enjoy the pool ;)

You know...I still haven't made it over to KSC yet. I really want to go one weekend but there never seems to be time. There is a Ron Jon store at Festival Bay Mall on I-Drive too. :rolleyes1

I was very disappointed in "It" because of the ending. I couldn't believe Pennywise was actually a ****** (I don't want to spoil it). ;)

Got to agree - the clown was a whole lot scarier than the "real IT". I read this while hubby worked midnight shift - I went to bed and stayed there. Silly me, I thought as long as I am in bed and all body parts covered (no feet sticking out), that clown could not get me.:lmao:

Has anyone read Thinner?

I know I have seen the movie a few times, and then got the book. This interested me since he could eat and eat and he lost weight. In the beginning, this was pretty cool.

Also, it was not as scary as most of his other books (which was good for me).
