Mac, I am a little worried about you trying to book HRH over Columbus Day weekend and getting your King Suite ... I don't see any available Thursday - Monday. Please keep me posted and LMK how it goes.


We only had Savvy's front claws removed. Poor thing had to stay overnight, and we can't pick her up until at least 2. The vet called us after Savvy came out of surgery. He says that if she hasn't had the complete parasite work-up, she needs to have it done because her belly is swollen.

Since Savvy is a shelter cat, the shelter required her to have a wellness exam and 14-day follow up visit (at a different hospital), so she was worked up for parasites and treated 7-ways till Sunday.


So, we call the new vet back and ask, What's up? Savvy is clean as a whistle at this point. What else could be causing a swollen belly? The vet tech who answered the phone said that her belly isn't swollen, she's just fat. We try to be good parents and exercise portion control and do not overfeed .. why is my girl fat already? Poor thing!

Anyway, I am working Super Bowl Sunday as usual. Guess they know I really do not give a rat's behind who wins and only watch for the commercials. I am catering our work Super Bowl party again with a bunch of artery-clogging crap that we'll all regret the day after.

Wendy, don't fret. Guys ALWAYS lose more and faster than girls. It isn't fair, but it is what it is. Mother Nature designed our bodies to constantly hold onto enough extra stuff to build another person. Trying to explain to our bodies that we don't NEED to hang onto it is difficult.

When I first started my big weight loss years ago, here are two key things my dietician told me.

First, think of your metabolism as a lazy co-worker... someone who isn't a self-motivator... who will do something productive if you give them something to do, but will just sit there staring into space if you don't. Feed your metabolism little bits of something healthy to keep it busy and active. Also, your body will then learn to trust that good stuff is coming on a regular basis and it doesn't need to "store" it away.

Second, look at your food choices. Are you taking in more protein than carbs? If you don't care how fast you lose, it doesn't matter. If you want to lose faster, make sure that your protein intake exceeds your carbs.

Jodie - If vet said swollen belly, after a clean bill of health from the shelter, I'd check into it further. If you know you aren't overfeeding, I don't know that I'd trust the tech's "fat" belly assessment. I hope everything goes okay for her. Is Alex missing her or doing a happy dance?

Janet - Sounds like you've got a fun night ahead. I wouldn't worry about Barb... yet. I can't remember when she said that Ryan's new SWAT program stuff was starting, but I know that was going to add to their running around crazy schedule. I have her number. If we don't hear from her today, I'll check and see what's up.

Happy belated Birthday to Penny and Marcie!

I'm happy to report that I am feeling much better today. It helps that boss 1 and boss 2 are in Florida on vacation for the next 10 days!!

I forgot you mentioned the basement thing before.

I don't know how common basements are in the south, but they are very common in the Atlanta area. My parents house had a basement. My first house (with the ex in north metro Atl) had a basement. Now this one has one too way up here in the boonies. My sisters each had 2 houses in the Atlanta area over the years. Only one of those didn't have a basement. That one was in a newer subdivision. I don't know that they build the newer ones with them or not.

I didn't know basements were popular in Georgia either. I guess we could move there and DH would still have a job. Hmmm, with the drought you all have been going thru, I guess it would not be a good time for him to make any money thou. He is the salesman for a franchise that sells basement waterproofing.

After that intresting day my 15 year old tells me she may want to start dating a boy she met in school . I am not ready for this at all . Any advice for this ? Many of you are guessing right she is the oldest and I am freaking out right now .

When my daughter was that age we came to a compromise. She could date, but only with a group. Good luck!

And after all that to top off my day the water main is broken around the corner and we went over an hour with no water at 6PM which is prime time for me to cook dinner . Needless to say I was not a happy camper . It took over an hour to get the water back. This is after a trip to the supermarket to buy water to make dinner with .

Water is one of those things that you don't realize how much you use it until you don't have any!

Water is one of those things that you don't realize how much you use it until you don't have any!

It is always better when the boss is away .

I think that this is the way we are going to go too . I think it is better for them to at least start in a group and then date one on one later .... Boy that didn't sound good either or is it just a dirty mind thing ???


I have to say that the water is great now that it is on but it is BROWN .. IT looks like well you know so we are not doing any of this or this with our water yet. Hopeful it will clear up soon .

I just got a call from the doctor's office saying that Joshua's bloodwork came back fine. So, I'm thinking that is a good thing and breathing a sigh of relief. I asked when I should bring Joshua back for his next check. She said, "Ummm... I don't know... let me check."

At this point, I should mention that the nurse calling me is new. She is my doctor's partner's (Dr. Broomstick) nurse. My doctor has just started his 3 month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

She puts me on hold and comes back to tell me that he doesn't need it done again for a year.

I don't think so. My doctor was very specific in telling me that Joshua would need regular bloodwork to monitor the Dilantin level in his system... especially for the first few months.

I told her that. She said to let her check again since he isn't familiar with the case. She came back and told me to bring him back in 3 months.

Uh-uh. That isn't going to happen. I have the appointment with the Pediatric Neurologist a week from tomorrow, so I let it go and I'll double check with HIM about what needs to be done. Then, if I have to, I'll call MY nurse back and tell her what is going on.

I can't wait for the second week of May when my doctor will be back. Dr. Broomstick is fine for throwing pills at symptoms, but he doesn't retain anything. He never remembers a case from one visit to the next. My doctor knows who I am, what problems I've had, what problems Brad has had, what our kids are going through... heck, the last time I was there, he asked me how CAROL was doing because I've mentioned her current situation to him in passing. He doesn't need the chart except to remind him of dates and tests. He knows me without the file. I absolutely HATE not having him here while we sort out Joshua's situation.

And I'm sure he'd rather be here than doing a tour of duty. I should be feeling sorry for him instead of myself. His family has to be worried sick. I'll shut up now.

Also, I am starting to feel tiny flutters of excitement over Daytona. I don't want to get excited yet. I don't even know if I can go. I feel guilty about even wanting go in the first place. Sigh.

I'm going to go clean something.
