First I have to say Barb those bananas were hilarious...but I am so glad that I had scrolled down just enough for it to not be on the screen when Mikey walked in here!

Janet - The birthday was my oldest son's. He turned 23 today.

Katie - Wish there was something I dould do for you. I'm thinking about you if it helps any at all.

Marcie - The ornament... I tried to find something fitting that was related to Green Bay or piano or soccer or even Disney but couldn't find anything. I went to one store and couldn't find anything and then went to a year round Christmas store, Mikey was with me and getting very agitated that it was takig me so long to find something. I was about to give up and walked by the tree with camping/fishing stuff on it and remembered the talk of your trips, especially the one without the indoor potty! So I looked around that tree for a while and finally decided on the one I bought. Mikey was thrilled that I finally picked one.

Also, that story about your mom was terrible. It is sickening that she had to go through that.

Barb - I too am ready to get things back to normal. I have no idea how I am going to make it through another week of the kids being home. They are about to drive me nuts!

Jennifer - I would like to say that we will take it easy on you but everyone is making such a big deal over the fact that we have lost the last 3 bcs games we have been in I believe it will be a no holds barred game. Besides Sooner fans are never happy with a loss and a three loss season would be very bad.

Penny- I say Patriots & Green Bay. Just because.

Tricia - Black eyed peas are the norm in these parts but there is no way I am eating those nasty little things. And collard greens just plain stink. I remember being at my great grandparents once when they were cookign and thought I was going to puke!

Lawrence - Hope your day was a good one.

Todd - Sorry about your team loosing but we were routing for Tech here, a big 12 team ya know. Gotta have our conference look good even it they still won't give us any credit.

Hope I didn't miss anyone, going from memory! And that is not a good thing.

Nite all!

marcia, i see my quote of your post didn't make it.
wonder how i screwed that up this time.......

my mom was on fossamax also and has lost 5 teeth.

so i know how your mom is suffering. it's very painful.

there is a class action law suit going on now against the company.
check into it.

hey lori.........see you snuck in behind me.
you got the snow yet?

came back to tuck all you homies into bed.

st lawrence, how is your mil now?
did she go to the ER?

Good Morning All!

Barb - Where do you find these things.  Your bananas were hilarious.

Well, I think we got 2-3 inches of snow. And school is called off. Hubby thinks he may stay home and take a sick/pers day. He is fed up with his job. Son will be HAPPY:cool1: :cool1: as he gets another day off. DS will be 13 in February so we are "toying" with letting him stay home by himself, if DH goes to work. My office is less than a mile away, and I will be in office all day today. I tend to be out of the office alot, so if I'm not in office, he has to go to my sister's house.

Lori - Big Game tonight. Your Sooners want to win to break your bowl losing streak. You have something to prove. Our Mounties want to win to show Rich Rod we don't need him. We have something to prove. Should be a good game.:happytv:

Time to get moving. I had anticipated going to office and getting things organized over the holiday weekend. Didn't happen. I will be lucky to come up for air by lunchtime.

-Jennifer-

came back to tuck all you homies into bed.

st lawrence, how is your mil now?
did she go to the ER?

It was DW's grandmother and no she still won't go and is doing a little better and her son DW's uncle came by and seen her and all he told them was she looks ok to him and she didn't need to go but I guess he thinks he knows what his 80 something mother needs.
Go figure this comes from a guy who only comes over when money is involed and worries about how much money he will get when she passes away.

good morning all- either no school or delays everywhere

i really think i can hear the snow blower snarling at us:scared:

supposed to be a high of 10 tomorrow.

talk about frosty....

If you have not already voted, PLEASE VOTE
for your afc and nfc choice .YOU pick. PLEASE?????

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Our temp was 18 degrees when we got up this morning! We even got a few snow flurries. It's supposed to be freaky cold today and tomorrow, then the temps start climbing back up again. We have to double check the driving route now, since we go over the mountains if we head due north from here. If they got snow or ice, we might have to head west before we head north. :headache:

We go to pick up the boys tuxes this afternoon. I am toying with the idea of running them across the parking lot to the Target portrait studio and getting a picture taken of them. I don't know what kind of a photographer they'll have at the wedding or if I'll be given the option to get pictures... or how much they'd cost if I did. At Target, I can get pictures for $4 per sheet with no other fees.

Anyway, I know I'm not addressing everyone personally and I feel terrible. I've read everything. Things will be crazy around here today as we prepare to leave early tomorrow. I'll try to check back when I can.

Oh, and FIL called last night to say, "Why don't we try to travel together?" :scared1:

Ummmm... because you refuse to take the Interstate? Because you refuse to drive anywhere near the speed limit? (usually 5 to 10 miles UNDER it) Because you only watch what's in front of you half the time? (the rest is spent looking out the SIDE window) Need I go on?

They are planning to leave much earlier than we are anyway, so we told them to go ahead. We can't leave until after we get Maggie in the vet. :rolleyes1

good ole' maggie- give her an extra bone for being the perfect reason for taking your own, peacefull, quiet and hassle free for a few hours ride automobile. PEACE OF EVER LOVING MIND. :thumbsup2

Morning all!- 2 hour snow delay for kiddo today; sure was nice to burrow backin under the covers. Haven't done laundry since before Xmas...talk about mountains.

jennifer - :cheer2: to WVW-what night r they playing? WV coach is a butthead, jumping ship during season is soooo uncool. Betcha there were lots of couch bonfires over that one.:rotfl: DSs friend is having problems getting accepted into PA State police acad; something to do with suit filed by WVU private landlord as to deporable conditions/damages...he swears-no couches were harmed. One of the reasons we got out of the rental bus. Shame on him, was raised better than that.

marci - how awful for your poor mom, glad ma is on actonnel. Great pics!

Kfed- owie!:wizard:

mac - should've got ur liquored up (& looked for the $s:rotfl: ). I've bored the heck outta everyone with my teeth here over the past year, one after another have gone south:guilty: ...once the teeth go it's time for the glue farm.:upsidedow I consider myself lucky that the filling i lost last week is still painfree, have yet to call my dentist.

barb - haven't played pictionary for a good 15 years, middle DS was addicted to it; wound up sending it over to his dad's house. just can't get new years even @ U outta my brain.popcorn:: one track mind ya know.

although the banana porn made my day:worship: :dance3: always wondered where they came from, thought I had it solved with this picture:confused: from TR i haven't started yet

LegendCruiseC120-1.jpg
the sun was so intense we couldn't see, ergo the shading...nanners are near the red flower
while i'm talking trees..my idea of a Xmas tree (near suessville)
LegendCruiseC040.jpg

lori - i could've sworn we celebrated your birthday a few months back:3dglasses ; hope DS had a great day. So you daughter & son were born 2 weeks apart? My oldest two are 16 days from each other...must've been the moon or something - ha.

todd - shaking off the icicles; saw a thread where someone was boo-hooing the cold weather was coming to FL...58:rolleyes1 , it's projected to stay a balmy 19 here - wind chill near 8. Sorry for ya team, always next year. Had an ephinany - is your screen name for the golf course? saw in when leafing thru a golf digest i was tossing, looks very luxe

st larry - sorry to hear your trials & tribs, being the sandwich generation is a challenge. My siblings stopped calling & visiting ma once they drained her savings with their hard luck stories.:headache: just as well, things are much calmer without their destructive lifestyles in the picture.

tricia - always wanted to try researching genealogy; MIL had a paper going back beyond the civil war as to service records (they were on the losing side) and as to land ownership, etc. Disappeared, believe DHs idiot bro sold it.:sad2:
penny good job on the recap! My pics:

anyone but the Pats, don't waste your $ on the Steelers, i'll go with Indy

vs

the seattle seaHOGS as my youngest always called them to take it in an upset:thumbsup2 it could happen

And where OMG where did you find the bananas having sex smiley? I'm sitting here printing out coloring pages and activity pages off FamilyFun and NickJr to keep the boys happy on our almost 5 hour car trip. I click over to the DIS and refresh the page. And OH MY! There are bananas having at it on my screen! :lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:

I've found that smiley (and many other explicit ones) at freesmileys.com. Lots of fun to look at. That's where I got my cool surfing one too and DS got his soccer one in my sig.

See, I guess I did the ornament wrong. I had the idea of getting something for the person (in this case, you Lori!) that would remind them of me or the thread. See, if you'd gotten me a Green Bay one, it would be one of about 5 on our tree. The one you got was far more unique and cool for us! I figured, however, that it was a safe bet that you didn't have a Packers one on your tree, so thought it would be a reminder of us and the discussions on this thread!

marcia, i see my quote of your post didn't make it.
wonder how i screwed that up this time.......

my mom was on fossamax also and has lost 5 teeth.

so i know how your mom is suffering. it's very painful.

there is a class action law suit going on now against the company.
check into it.

Unfortunately, Michigan has some stupid law that says you can't sue a corporation or be involved in a class action suit against one. :confused3 My brother's a lawyer, and he looked into it for my mom. Considered listing her as living with one of us out of state, but I think by now she just wants to forget about it!

-Jennifer-

I think your son would be fine as long as he was by a phone and you could check on him. My youngest DS is 12 (13 in May) and he's spent many a sick day at home already. Just make sure he knows not to answer the door or use the oven. Shoot, we even left DS12 at the house we rented in Orlando for about 6 hours while two of us checked out Universal and two went to see BMG and he didn't want to come. He'll be fine!

supposed to be a high of 10 tomorrow.

talk about frosty....

Penny - your weather always makes me feel better about ours. It's supposed to be about double that here - well, a balmy 18 or so! Supposed to be upper 30's and rain by the weekend however, so maybe you'll get some of that, although I'm not sure it's a big improvement!

Off to work!

The traditional New Year's dinner around here is black eyed peas and collard greens... usually with a pork roast. The black eyed peas are for luck in the new year. The collard greens are for prosperity in the new year. The pork, as far as I know, is just because it goes well with black eyed peas and greens.

tricia - i luv, luv greens soooo much; good ones hard to find up north. Surprisingly, a few local KFCs have them. you must give me a recipie when you have a chance:wizard: ...currently i open a can since the kids don't always hanker for them. Southern MILs were tasteless, her black eyed peas were enough to break your teeth?

I've never had collard greens or black eyed peas. Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on anything thou. Are collard greens kinda like spinach? or Dandelion greens?

Anyone's town do the polar bear thing where you take a dip in river/lake in freezing temps on NYs day?

Yep, my sister jumps into the frigid Atlantic Ocean every year for charity. Personally, I think she's nuts! Over 300 people participated in this one. Water temp was a brisk 38 degrees. Here's a few pics from the local newspaper.

are you game for the playoffs?

strange wild and wonderfull things can happen and often do during the playoffs.
so, lets see now who you pick to be in the superbowl
just pick and afc and an nfc team

we'll do the "winner" later

here are your choices:
AFC
new england
pittsburg
indy
jax
tenn
San Diego

NFC
dallas
new york giants
washington
Green Bay
tampa bay
seattle

I know absolutly nothing about football, so this is just a guess...

I'll pick the Pats and the Giants.

Katie - I'm sorry to hear all this about the dentist stuff. My mom went through it for over a year. Basically, she took Fosamax for years (strengthen bones). Well, apparently one of the side effects has to do with pulled teeth. She had to get a tooth pulled and pretty much it wouldn't heal and the jawbone just started decomposing. Evidently this is becoming more common - before they thought it was only people who took it in IV form (usually cancer patients), but now they've found zillions of cases where it happened to people who took the normal dosage.

She had chunks of bone coming out of her jaw, which was of course in pain because it never healed, for months. Then it spread to her neck and some of the bones there started dissolving. They were talking about inserting horse vertebrae (:confused3 ) through her throat into her neck for support if it didn't stop, but they finally got it under control nearly a year ago now. Just amazing how much pain she was in and how little they seemed able to do. She ended up in the ER once from an overdose of Vicodin (we think too much pain, kept taking more, finally forgot if or how much she'd already taken!) having her stomach pumped. All in all it wasn't a good experience and gave me quite a low regard for the whole profession - actually she dealt mostly with specialists (oral surgeons) and they still couldn't help.

WOW, I have never heard of this. Think I'd better check with mom and see what she is taking. I'm so glad to hear they got it under control.

Okay, I finally uploaded some pics (okay, okay, DH did it), so I'll just start with a few at a time.

Thanks for posting the photos of your son at church. He looks very comfortable sitting there. Does he get nervous?
Is it a large church? Looks like it in the pictures. You and Royce must be very proud of him!

I've never had collard greens or black eyed peas. Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on anything thou. Are collard greens kinda like spinach? or Dandelion greens?

Black eyed peas are great. I buy a bag of dried peas, soak them overnight, and then cook them slow with a packet of Goya imitation ham seasoning (it's like ham boullion) in the water. Yum. Less fatty than the usual pork hunks that get tossed in when most people cook peas around here. ;)

Collards I've never developed a taste for. They *look* like spinach when you cook them, but they have a distinct almost sour taste to me. I prefer turnips myself if I have to have a leafy green... or good old steamed cabbage, now that I really like.

ROTF - those dudes are mighty pasty looking, could be cause they're freezing! Your sister is very brave. I remember my grandparents (eastern european) talking about how "their grandparents" used to either dip their babies in icy water or set them in the snow for a spell to "harden them up" Course, they had their babies in the fields and went back to work the same day; if they went to skool would've walked both ways uphill too I bet.

i'm wild about spinach (fresh or in the can with Popeye) yet i think collard greens taste the best, turnip greens too strong & i can't say i've eaten a dandelion yet, especially not out of my back yard with dogs running about lol.

I'll defer to tracie but imo, it's all important to wash them several times, then wash again (yucky when gritty) long cooking process (they seem to disappear in the pot by 3/4 volume) and all important is how they are seasoned. Know I had them in a soul-food joint in Myrtle Beach, believe they used pork hocks & had hot pepper sauce out on table to kick it up a notch. Mighty good baked mac & cheese too although i rarely eat it. I tend to just like it on the stovetop, their's wasn't dry @ all.

Hey all....

Lots of pages, but I am finally up to date.

Hope everyone is enjoying the second full day of 2008!! Kids all went back to school ON TIME (heck - I had them there early) today. New Year, new rules around here!!:thumbsup2 I have resolved to be a better mother, wife and friend. Kinda started slacking late last year. :sad1:

My house projects WILL get done and normal everyday stuff will be done, well, everday :rotfl: Need to learn how to cook though - that is usually Jim's department.

Here is the undecorated (thanks to frank) tree

Penny, I don't know about you, but I've seen enough of the white stuff. We need a spring countdown ticker.
We lost our power last night for few hours. I was sitting in my bedroom knitting a sweater and watching Housewives of O. C. and I hear this big loud kaboom. I jumped up and looked out the window and there was another kaboom. The sky lit up down the road a bit and there was this big fireball. It did it one more time and then the power went out. A big transformer blew up. I was shocked how fast they got it repaired/replaced. We only have one heat source, so no power, no heat. I was worried we were going to have to find somewhere to sleep for the night.

Hey homies I hope everyone is doing well today and as for me I am okay if I could get use to a wind chill of 5 below and was worse this morning when I took DW to work :scared1: with wind chill 10 below plus slick roads due to ice and snow:scared1: not fun concidering its a 22 mile round trip to take her but made there and back safe:cool1:

Jeez, thats' some cold weather your having. Sounds like you need chains for the tires if your going over the mountains!

I'd be running over to Target. The pro is going to charge you way more than $4 a sheet...

Do the peas go by another name? I've never seen them in the grocery store. I'll have to look for the ham seasoning.
Do you mean you eat the turnip leaves?? :confused3
