We're back and I'm beat.

Joshua has no hair. Okay, he has some hair... but it has never been this short before. It's like fuzz almost. The salon was swamped, kids were running everywhere. It never crossed my mind that a ton of parents would be dragging their kids to get haircuts before Thanksgiving. I was just going because the boys needed a cut. I heard a bunch of comments like, "We want you to look good when Grandma comes." Had I known, I would have timed it differently.

Anyway, the lady that normally does both boys took Daniel and sent Joshua over to another girl. I'm sitting there holding Daniel still and suddenly I hear her fire off in her thick accent, "What number blade you use his hair?!?" I turn around to see the girl standing there, razor buzzing in hand, with a shocked look on her face. Joshua was completely oblivious since he was playing Mario Kart (kids haircut establishment... games and tvs at all the stations to keep the kids entertained). The lady then says, "Just STOP. Get someone off list. I do it." She finished up Daniel and then looked at me and said, "She make mess. I fix, but it going to be short."

She wasn't kidding.

Oh, well. He has thick fast growing hair. I'm sure it'll be back to normal... eventually...

One of the stops I made today was to pick up our new pictures.

See, not as good as last year, but still worth the effort. I'm off to scan the family photo and make cheap Christmas cards from them. Shhhh... don't tell Target that I'm using their professional photo without paying their outrageous greeting card prices. :ssst: :tiptoe:

MIAMI is 0-9........@ 4-5 Philly Birds will pick them clean:rolleyes1

Have I mentioned I really look forward to the football 'annoucement' each week :thumbsup2 My thoughts on the Birds..... we chuckle here and say: "Watch them LOSE to Miami and WIN against Pats" :lmao: :lmao: Now THAT would be funnie....eh, stranger things HAVE happened :rolleyes1

Tricia.... I think the pix came out great! Everyone looks so nice :goodvibes (nice to see a *ahem* 'different' shirt on your hubby  ) At busy times of the year (holidays, Easter, back to skool) salons get WAY busy with the kids. In order to get "2 done at the same time" they will often split siblings up between stylists.... (especially if your 'regular' girl only has enuf time for 1)..... So, anyone out there, remember, if it's a 'busy' time...make sure to EMPHASIZE you want the same stylist for all your kids ;)

Off to a friend's for dinner..... l8r gators.... :grouphug:

Okay, I haven't been here in a while and obviously you've all forgotten about me! :sad1: I have been following along, but we've been so busy that there's just not any time. And it's not going to get better. We're off to Michigan Wednesday morning for the holidays and I have no packing done and just started on presents. Since we won't be home over Christmas, we have to do all our Christmas presents over Thanksgiving.

We're off to church in a few minutes here. DS12 is playing the mass again. He's been waiting to get paid since May, when he turned 12 and filled out a work permit and they promised to start paying him. Well, they now owe him for 5 masses ($100) so when we asked about it today, they told us his work permit was rejected. :confused3 They insisted the school (where I got the permit) rejected it and it's not their fault, but I have the copy of the one from the school and nowhere on there is there a problem. I think they're just trying to get out of paying him. :rolleyes1 We're about to just start taking the money out of our offertory and paying him ourselves! Anyways, still fun watching him play!

We had conferences this week and that took all evening Thursday. Still have the other half Tuesday. Problem with 3 kids and 8 teachers each! So far I haven't learned much of excitement about my kids.

Trying to think over the last week's worth of posts. Tricia - sorry to hear about your anemia and your sister. I'm O positive, so I doubt I'm much help. DH is AB negative, so he's always getting called. Apparently they use that type blood for something with preemie babies, not sure how it works. Also, I loved seeing your pics. Didn't realize your little guy was such a redhead!

I also think you're the one who mentioned the ladybugs. We've been fighting them here for awhile too. We use the dustbuster and just suck them up. Going to be a mess whenever we finally empty it out!

Oh, and your story with the doctor - that annoys me too. When youngest DS was about 6, we took him to the doctor after he twisted his ankle snowboarding. Although he was young (and was small for his age), he was a very bright kid. Well, the doctor just totally talked to him like he was a baby. We still make fun of it - he said something like "Right now your foot hurts, but it's going to get better! Tomorrow it will feel a little bit better, and the next day it will be a little better, and the next day, and someday it will be ALL better!" (Said in a sing-songy tone). My son just looked at him like he had 3 heads or something! Really funny!

Okay, I'm sorry - I pretty much only got through Tricia! I'll have to catch up more later! Off to church! Keep remembering me guys - I'm still here!

Oh, and I'm interested in the gift exchange!

penny - wish i read your pics before i put my $ down today:) , i took a few different anglespopcorn:: . hate to say it, the steelers tend to blow the "easy" ones; get a mite big-headed.:rolleyes1

hi marci!

barb - i picked the Eagles to win:thumbsup2

tricia - for the last few years i've been whacking my families hair, or shall i say buzzing it;) . It started when they couldn't get a timely appointment & just couldn't stand it another minute. They all say it's just as good as the barber was doing & they don't have to tip me. I'm always a bit worried i'll muck it up, cut off an ear, etc. Sideburns are an issue for me, keep asking them to go & get it done by a pro; they refuse.:confused3 I think the pics are super! Don't think i've ever seen the pose with one child sitting on the other; nice though. Bet it didn't take much coaking! lol

off to figure out why my phone isn't receiving calls? Just added an extra discounted international rate plan to my existing international capability...grrr. All the others on the family plan are working...nuts.

:woohoo: Marcie likes me best! :p

Janet - I cut Brad's hair. It is so curly that it is almost impossible to screw it up. He used to keep it longer, but I've been shortening it up a bit in the past few years. :rolleyes1

Oh, and the pose with Daniel sitting on Joshua was the only one we could get. Daniel was in NO mood to have his picture made, so the photographer came up with the idea of letting him "ride" on big brother. At least we were able to get a shot of them that way.

Penny - I love the "wave" smilie! And you can add me to the list of people that look forward to your football summary each week. :thumbsup2

Hey all.... sounds like everyone is starting their "busy"s for the season.... :rolleyes1

Good to see you around Marcie....like I've mentioned before (i think :scratchin ) church is all about the money...That is ridiculous for them to make up a lame excuse to get out of paying your son.....I'd do the same and take it out of the offering!

I cut both my boys hair, but then again, shouldn't I? Bubba has never had anyone but me cut it....don't know if he could handle someone else doing it? :confused3 And speaking of hair...here's a little story for you....
About 2-2.5 months ago, I cut a very nice lady's hair for the first time. She was just looking fot a trim on her short hair, but she is anal about it being 'even'. (Apparently she couldn't get anyone to cut it 'even' :confused3 ) So, she also mentioned she liked how a few had cut her hair, but was tired of paying $40 every month....uh....oookkaaayyyy.... :rolleyes1 So, I cut her hair, charged her my fee, sent her on her way, and thought "I'll never see her again." (cuz of the money thing).... So, guess who is in my book for today...yep...same lady. Turns out, she had someone cut it and was complaining it wasn't 'even' on the sides again :sad2: So, I guess she decided that I AM worth my inflated prices I charge  ...and she made an appt. for the Saturday before Christmas. (Not her 'way' she said, but I looked and told her most of my clients book ahead, and that day was filling up quick...so, she snatched an appointment time) Funny.....after all these years of cuttin' hair, I'm STILL learning and being surprised by people. Initially I think she didn't come back cuz of the money, but realized, I was worth it;)

Planning on shopping all day Wednesday...no skool, which means, no work for me.... still lookin' for job....hate that I'm "stuck" at this one till I find 'nother one :headache: Oh well...whatcha gonna do???

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday and last "free" weekend before Thanksgiving...cuz you know after this weekend, they are gonna 'bombard' us with weekend sales:rolleyes:

(Look at that ticker countin' down to Christmas  )

Hey everyone!

I miss everyone because things have been so busy!!! Was teaching an an AIDS training this morning and then did a little shopping! I'm pooped!

Oh! What an accident we saw today while the DF and I were eating dinner. A car cut across 3 lanes of oncoming traffic to try and make a left turn. It creamed one car, then went up on the curb, took out three small trees, and hit three other cars. Luckily no one was hurt, but it certainly made me thankful that we were parked in the back! Some people shouldn't have licenses :sad2:

Well, its coming up on midnight, sweet dreams everyone!

Trying to catch up some! Tried to last night, but sat down with a glass or 2 of wine and it caught up with me before I managed to re-read everything I'd missed!

Okay, some comments in completely random order:

I'd always cut my boys' hair for many years because they all wore the standard buzz cut (see our last family pic for an example). Now I still cut my oldest's because he still wears his like that, but I get the other two boys cut since they now wear them longer. Youngest's is so long that I could probably cut it too - all they do each time is start at the bangs and trim off about an inch all the way around. However, middle son is in the awkward stage - he wants it "longer" than a buzz, but not "long" and we've tried about 5 different places and it always looks dorky when they cut it and shaggy shortly afterwards. I think he may need to grow it out a bit to get it to look okay.

Oldest DS had a very frustrating soccer game Friday night. They had exactly 6 kids there (they play 6 on the field indoor) so no subs. Hunting season started yesterday so everyone was gone already. They played a very obnoxious, aggressive team that they could have beaten easily with the rest of their team, and probably even beaten if we had just ONE more player there - anyone! The kids were dying and we had NO forwards there - all our defenders (which is nice in one sense), but no one to score! We still managed to hold them to losing only 4-3, but the poor kids were just exhausted. I wish we'd get to play them again at full strength!

Black Friday - come on people, do you not go to rope drop at the parks either? :confused3 Some things you have to do just for the experience! Hitting stores at 5, 6, 7, and 8am openings (first one feels like 4am to us since we're out in Michigan each year but on Central time!), then relaxing in a Panera Bread by 8:30 drinking hot chocolate with your shopping all done! That's how you do it! Even if there's nothing we really want, you just go for the atmosphere! It's part of the Holiday thing!

Okay, wacky foods. Only one I can think of from my childhood and I haven't heard mentioned (and I don't know how to spell) is "Kieska" (pronounced keesh-ka". I know it sounds like kielbasa, and kind of looked like one, but it was black instead of brown and you didn't eat the skin, instead you sliced it open and ate the inside (which I'm recalling to be black and white?) Anyone heard of this? I know we had it with mac & cheese always!

All right, just to break this up a bit and get in the mood for football, since I'm guessing most of you aren't on the Green Bay Packer thread, here's DH at the Bronco's game (in Denver) with his buddy and their cheeseheads:

Broncos.jpg

I'll be back with more shortly!

Okay, continuing on in another color (so you guys don't realize it's just still me babbling on!) SOS - yep, that was a standard Army food. We got it at West Point and DH still eats it if we're out somewhere (buffets, etc.) that offer it. I don't think I ever ate the first S part of it even then, and just stuck with the biscuit when I had to eat it!

Rose - sounds like your husband might be better off continuing to look around for another job. Even if he's offered this one permanently, sounds like the stress of working for a moron might not be worth it! I am curious, though, for you and others who've commented on hours you work and/or wake up. Do most of you (or your DH's) work 9-5? My DH usually gets to work around 6am and works until 5pm. This has been the norm for the 16 years he's been with the company in 3 different states. :confused3 Actually in Michigan it was more 7-6, but still around 11 hours a day. And those of you who mentioned getting up at 5:30 with the time change and being frustrated by it - what time do you usually get up? My kids' bus comes at 6:45, so we're all up between 5:30 and 6 (to stagger showers) - although DH is already gone by then. When do your schools start? Tricia - I'll give you a bye since you have little kids, but I'm surprised the rest of you don't normally have to get up that early!

Lori - thanks for sharing the pics! That's more how I expected Ally to look, so I guess she's gotten a lot older in just those past few years! We put all of this year's school photos in frames, etc. yesterday and of course when we put the new one in, we take out all the old ones behind it and look at them back to preschool. And it's amazing that they'll look exactly the same, then somewhere in there it's like there's a total transformation and they go from "little" to, well, "not"!

I didn't go to many concerts when I was young and listing any would just date myself. I do remember taking the kids to their first concert which was a Jimmy Buffett one - they were all huge fans and had done a concert of many of his songs in school so they had a blast at the concert. It was kind of funny though since they were in kindergarten through 3rd grade at the time to see them just dancing and singing along!

Jodie - we also have a very limited meal rotation in this house because of very picky kids. Have to have pizza in the rotation at least twice a week and Subway in there at least once. Then you add the very limited things my kids will eat (chicken, pork, ham) and you barely fill a week. Over the summer we do a lot of grilling, but now we're back down to the minimum. Oops - forgot tacos, okay there's one more!

Janet - since no one else picked up on it, yes, I watched Twilight Zone regularly as a kid and still remember the "To Serve Man" episode (Wait! It's a cookbook!). We've watched this in recent years and find ourselves surprised by how corny it seems now because I remember it as being SO scary!

All right, have to help DH make a shopping list here - I'll be back!

Yep, just me back again! Decided to do fondue (one of our favorite meals) this afternoon, so had to send DH with a shopping list! We do the broth and cook steak, shrimp, chicken, and a bunch of veggies. Probably one of the only healthy meals my kids ever eat!

My kids favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner at Grandma's is simply cucumbers! For some reason, we rarely have that at home, but she makes tons of it in her "special dressing" (salad dressing, vinegar and seasonings) and my kids just inhale it! They'll each eat about 5 servings of that, along with maybe 2 bites of turkey and some corn (don't think any of them will try stuffing or mashed potatoes).

Funny story - when youngest DS was about 5, we were at a restaurant that had good mashed potatoes and gravy. I asked him if he'd ever tried them before and he said he had in preschool and didn't like it. I told him that was probably "icky" powdered mashed potatoes and probably didn't have gravy and made him try a bite. He took the bite, then looked at me with his face all scrunched up (with an "ick" expression) and said "THAT'S what it tasted like when we had it in PRESCHOOL!" Yes, this is the same kid who also won't eat plain rice or bread, so I guess he just doesn't like "basic" food!

Well, our whirlpool is being really stupid and is shutting itself down for the second time in a month. We just cleaned it out less than a month ago and have been trying to take good care of it but it's all gunky again and shutting off (which usually indicates it's too dirty to run). We think there must be something clogged in it because we've been adding chemicals, running it regularly and not even using it that much. So we're going to try to drain it and fill it again today (while it's above freezing briefly this afternoon!) and hope that solves it at least enough to get through being gone next week without it breaking down while we're gone and freezing (which would ruin it). Maybe then we can get someone to come check it out and try to fix it! Sigh!

Well, I'm off to shower before all the hot water is used for the whirlpool! We usually fill it cold, but don't want to with temps this close to freezing! (39 now)! Everyone have a great football day!

Oh, and one quick pic for you of DS before his play with all his makeup on in his baker's outfit! Yes, it took a good half hour each day to get the makeup off! No actual play pics yet, but at least one from beforehand!

Good Sunday mornin all.....

Katie...was glad to hear nobody hurt in that accident :scared: Was it driver error or car problem? It's scary to hear cars malfunction (breaks or whatnot), but the poor people who have strokes, heartattacks, seizures, etc while driving  ...scary!

Marcie.... You just will not get me out that early on Black Friday...no doin' :sad2: For one, I am home w/ DS until I have to go to work, and there is NO way he's getting up THAT early to SHOP!..uh-uh.....so, being up in the wee hours of the morning, and sometimes working until 8 at night ..... :sad2: no can do. My DH works Black Fridays now, so Bubba either goes to work with me or to my Mom's (and given SHE is out of the country right now ..... :scratchin ) And, since you are curious, my DH is up at 5:30 and out the door by 6. Takes him almost an hour to get to work and he starts at 7:15am (but, he's usually early and eats breakfast there w/ his buddy). He works until 3:45pm, but with the travel and traffic home, he usually gets home about 4:40-4:45. So, you are looking at almost an 11.5 hour day. :guilty: It's a long, stressful drive and he has resorted to almost all "back roads" vs highway because it's faster....go figure. :confused3 THAT being said, I am usually up about 7:15am in order to feed the boy and get ourselves cleaned up and out the door for the bus. We leave the house at 8:30am...his bus returns him at 4:40pm. So, that is our "out the door" schedule....works for us, but I know my DH is tired of the commute. When he works OT, he usually goes in early vs working later..... THAT is tough. Getting up at 4-something in the morning :sad2: (and we're not morning people!)

(Oh, and I got Janet's comment, but don't watch Twilight Zone..:sad2: ...DH did tho)

On that note....haveta get cleaned up....have to do hair at home today :headache: (I love my job, but hate doing it at home on my day off!) Oh well....that's what 'friends' do ;)

Catch everyone later.....have good Sunday!

We're having Hurricane Daniel at our house today. Doesn't matter what we try to do, Daniel is right there to destroy it. He has scattered books, dvds, you name it. Don't know what's got him in the mood, but we're going to go rake some leaves in the yard and see if we can wear his butt out.

I'm baking cornbread and boiling a chicken. The Thanksgiving dinner prep has officially begun...

Watching football (McNabb is injured), doing laundry.

Got 2 free certificates at 2 different grocery stores for free turkey or ham and only 67.00 away from another at a third store :scared1:

Waiting for a good airfare to book our trip. got a great one on the way home....just waiting on a certain carrier to get me a ding
