I haveta ask....how DO you guys wait last minute?? :confused3 Isn't traffic and crowds a nightmare??? All the 'pickin's' picked over? I could never do it.... I was 'harassing' Bubba in late September/early October for a list. He looked at me and very casually said, "I think I'll just email Santa Xmas Eve." I told him he couldn't do that....he would have already left and it'd be too late. So, he thought about it and said, "Umm, okay...I'll email him earlier in the week." :headache: So, I explained how he has to get his order in early cuz all the "good stuff" will be requested early. He came up with 2 things :guilty:

I am the "up til 3am wrapping everything on Christmas Eve/Christmas morning" kinda homie :faint:

Makes for a very interesting LOOOOOOOOONG day.

when my boys were littles, i did that one year.
finished wrapping close to dawn, slept an hour and they woke up.

i found out they didn't care for the cute paper and pretty bows........
and they preferred playing with the boxes some of the items came in

all i can say is that it ages me quicker...........

i'm not a last minute person.

the mother becomes a grinch during the weeks before christmas

I have been asking the kids for about a month now. They really don't need to much else. Of course EVERYTHING in the Toys r Us catalog is marked, but they don't PLAY with all of that stuff. I think this year is going to be very light package wise, but higher in dollar. Kait wants the new iPod classic (40gig and plays video?) She has the nano and it is full and can't play video so she will get the new one and courty will get the hand me down. Frank has only asked for 3 or 4 things so I am not too sure how to answer all of the "what do we get the kids for christmas" questions. I think I will nail it down to a top ten list for each this weekend and for the rest of it - tell everyone to get them gift cards :confused3

lookie lookie another homie that shops on christmas eve just like me!!

Yep Mac, I think I got it from my mother. She was always shopping on Christmas Eve.

And an even longer Christmas Day because I am so tired.

Barb I hate to say it but I think Bubba has it figured out and is trying to see how you react. :sad2:

The crowds aren't as bad for me really as they are this weekend. My biggest thing is being able to get out without the kids thinking they need to go with me. I actually have to get mad at them to leave the behind so I can finish.

I guess one of the good things about not having family here during Christmas is I get to go to the after Christmas sales and buy stuff then...hehe. :rolleyes1

Aw Mac...don't get grinchy...get even :cool2: Just remember....fa la la la, la la la......

Tracie...Bubba is the same way...all he does is video/computer games.... the only thing non-video he asked for was iCoaster...which, yes, we got ($60 on SALE  ) DH's point of view is like yours...why spend a ton of money on stuff that is just going to sit?? So, like you, our Christmas is "light on packages, heavy on the $$". And Lori...he didn't figure it out. As he was leaving for skool Monday (or was it Tuesday?) he was talking about Santa and, I'm not sure how the conversation went, but he mentioned if you didn't believe, you didn't get gifts. Well... I stopped and looked at him and point blank asked him if he believed. He said 'yes'.... I asked him if he was sure, and he seemed very convincing :thumbsup2 Guess I'm safe this year...... But, it's getting to the point where I wish he wouldn't believe.....then, I could 'justify' the $$ to him.... :guilty: Oh well....maybe next year :confused3

You don't see your family until AFTER the holiday?

todd, your post had me laughing.
such a smart man you are!!

i used to go out on dec 26 and get the tree, and discounted ornaments and gifts for the kids when they were little.
they never knew what day it was until they got older.

that and when they started watching tv and seeing the commercials i couldn't do the 12/26 celebration any longer.......

I hate it that the kids at school have to try to ruin it for other kids. Ally has been telling me since first grade that the kids at school say he isn't real. I still remember when Michael started asking because of the kids at school. When they ask I tell them that Santa is real, heck I am real aren't I?

I also remember when my sister & cousin told me & my younger cousin just who Santa was. I also remember them telling us not to tell that they had told us because we would get less if our folks knew we knew. Umm, did that make since????

i told 2 of my boys when they were in 5th grade about santa.
one took it quite hard and cried a lot.
he really believed.......

the other 2 figured out the handwriting early........

i will be shopping for my exchange ornament as soon as i do the list.

i'm excited about that.
anyone i get on here will be a joy to shop for.

Yes...I usually don't have the $$$ or time off from work to go home to Virginia for Christmas and there's too much stuff going on for them to come here. I usually don't see the folks until March or April...whenever they can get the timeshare.

it is difficult to make plans to travel when you live in an area that has lots of snow. i totally understand todd.

i'm sure they love florida when they go there in march/april time period.
great weather at that point.

i never make travel plans during the winter time.
chgo is too unpredictable for plane and car travel around the city here.

even january can be iffy for flights.

This is about the only time of year I don't like living in Florida....the holiday season. I go to the parks and see families running around and having a good time together and my family is a long way from me. It's ok though...We always make up for it when they DO come down. :thumbsup2

Just think of all the money you save!

I do save some money but would rather see the family during the holidays so I guess it's a trade off...so to speak.

I'm going to try to do some ketchup...

Can't always pick your extended family, you know

I'll trade you my drug-addicted control-freaky whacko of a SIL for your deal with the dog one.

FOR THOSE OF YOU HEADED OUT THE DOOR AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR THE

SHOPPING, SHOPPING AND MORE SHOPPING

GOOD LUCK AND DONT LET ANYONE ELSE GET THE PARKING SPACE THAT YOU SET YOUR EYES ON

Yeah. What she said. :rotfl:

Eat way too much turkey and ham.
LOL lost some wieght over the past weeks but think I put it all back on I guess thats what you get when you have a DW that can cook a great meal:lmao:

Isn't eating too much a requirement on Thanksgiving and the following day or two? I'm sitting here now eating a slice of apple pie. :confused3

ok, 2 out of 5 people liked today's resturant choice.

i was in the majority

the best thing i had today there was the taco salad.
next would have been the green olives............:headache:

i don't think we will be returning to that place again.

i'm about ready to do the burger king run now.

Dang, Mac. I'm sorry the restaurant wasn't what you hoped. :guilty:

just wanted to tell all of you homies that i am very thankful for each of you.
even though we mainly have contact inside this little white box, i have come to know a lot of you.....and i still like you...:rolleyes1

my homie family here means a lot to me.

I'll second that. Or third it. Or whatever the count is up to now 'cause I think we all feel that way. :thumbsup2

Have been watching it since episode #1. Who is glad that Sara is now officially gone?? I am, she was irritating and she looked like a guppy, or a piranha fish. (if she wouldn't have been so grating, I could deal with the looking like a fish thing :rotfl: )

I watched episode #1 thru the first seasons. I haven't been able to see it with any consistency in the last 2 or 3 years. I'm with Barb, Sara didn't bother me, but she wasn't pivatol to my enjoyment of the show. She could stay or go. :confused3

I liked the Sara character...We got to see into her past life experiences that helped shape who she was. But...I wish the writers had given her a little more of a personality. She never went on vacation and it was work work work all the time. I don't think the show is going to last too much longer. This is season eight so the show should be running down now.

I'm sorry Todd. I figured they came in just after the holidays not so many months later. I bet that is hard on you. Tell you what, next time we come for Christmas we'll have you come join us! Hopefully that will be next year!

i am very thankful for free entertainment like this from tricia.
i wonder if i can get her to type more?
but then, i'll only be able to check back here during commercials once csi is on.

tricia likes wine and wine likes tricia

and heck yes........where is gemma?

Glad I could help! That was a quick hit and run. I'm little vague on the details, but I know I told Brad that I had to check in with my homies last night. I think he looked at me funny. :confused3

So, our dinner went. DH told his sister dinner was at 5. By 4:45, nobody here yet :confused3 Still didn't know if 2, 3 or 5 were coming? Turns out, just DH's sister & her husband came.....so, saved a lot of "extra heating food up" for me. I'm not fancy, frozen pies cooked earlier today, green beans out of a can, stuffing out of a canister, cranberry out of a can, etc...you get the idea. Turns out it was a quiet, filling dinner...and that's okay with us. And the bonus today??? ....my house got cleaned! :cool1: Now I'm good till next year! :thumbsup2

So now, we focus our attention to Christmas and all those festivites.......

Strap on yer seatbelts....here we go kids!

Sounds like a relaxing day. You should have seen me yesterday morning playing round robin with the oven. "Okay, the turkey can come out at 10, then I can do the macaroni & cheese, then I can reheat the dressing, then..."

Oh, and my seatbelt is strapped. I'm ready for the ride. I think.

My Dad always said it's okay to talk to yourself, even answer yourself, just NEVER EVER say "Huh?" when talking to yourself! :lmao:

:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Tricia - Love the PUI! I hope you have a fabulous evening.

I agree Gemma is in some trouble if she doesn't get in here and let us know she is okay. We love you Gemma. Let us know you are okay please!

Should we buy a plane ticket and fly over there and just start yelling, "GEMMA!" until our girl answers?

Ha ha@the Chick-fil-a plug.

And I had no ham either, but Good Turkey. You know it's good turkey when you don't need gravy.

Gravy is for mashed potatoes... maybe dressing... not turkey.

Sorry I am late wishing you all a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

We had a wonderful day. Slept in and spent most of the morning reading the ads. We left the house about 11:20 this morning. First stop was my mom's house for dinner at 12:30. We stuffed ourselves with turkey and ham (DM - you're not the only one!) and enjoyed that side of the family until 3pm. Then we headed to DH dad's house for dinner at 4pm. We stuffed ourselves again with turkey and ham (see DM - ham at both places). We had a good dinner and time with that side of the family and got home about 10pm tonite.

Things I am thankful for:
My mom and family - siblings, aunt, cousins

My father-in law and family - DH's siblings and uncle, cousin

My family of DH and DS

Finding this website and this thread!:cool1:

My life in general - pretty good - many blessings in 43 years.

And oh yeah - if WVU can win out, the Mounties may play for the National Championship!!!!

Will check in with everyone tomorrow - I actually think I am going to try and go to the mall at 5am. I haven't been for about 5 years - think I will give it a go. If I survive - I'll give you a report.

-Jennifer-

Sounds like a wonderful day!

My oldest sister, who had to drive 3 hours to be here said, "I think we got the easy end of this bargain. We had to travel, but you did the cooking and cleaning."

Happy T-Day everyone!

Hope everybody is stuffed and happy! Well not gonna stick around, have to be up at 3:15 am for the beginning of Black Friday! :woohoo:

Kohl's and JCPenney are open at 4 am tomorrow and I will be there!

So have a great Friday all!

I hope you are having a great shopping day!

Online shopping >>>>> getting up at crazy early to get "deals"
