Do you drive or fly down?

I think you will be there when akdar/mike is there at the darkside.

Yes, we will be there from 10-17 straight through to 10-31. Going all out this year after the great time we had last year. Might have to sell some music gear, or get a 4th job :sad1: , but we're going for 2 weeks :thumbsup2

Same here. I really can't believe that they have off Fri/Mon and then they are complaining about not being able to make up the snow days from a few weeks ago. Something needs to be done legislatively that allows us to make up days when we can.:upsidedow

This is my son's version of yesterday. He was caught with gum in homeroom (not a class just a holding area). He spit it out.
Then he's in his English class--the one where the teacher loathes him, but if he gets moved to the other 7th grade teacher, then its not enriched and he'll be bored--and she thinks he has gum again. He has rubber bands on his braces and swears he did not have gum the 2nd time.

Instead of questioning him right there, she goes straight to the asst principals office to report him. Bit** He confronts Luke during his practice with the band. Luke swears that he didn't have gum 2nd time.

Not good enough for said dictator wannabe. He starts comparing my son to another student.

Now this is where it gets dicey. I'm proud of my son for sticking up for himself, but then again he just doesn't learn. He said to the principal, "You can't compare me to other students that's not allowed."

Long story short: in class suspension for 2nd offense gum, another day added for disrespect.

Other kids told my son on the bus that the band teacher who was in the room said that my DS had a valid point. I just wish he'd learn to just nod and smile and just say yes mam/sir.

Morning! Survivor starts tonight! :woohoo:

We're off Fri (in service) & Mon too (school district next county over has snow make up on MONDAY  No days off this month for them!) We had that wicked wind fly in around midnight... About 2am heard my trash can blow over...didn't go far tho ;) It's warm about (high 40s/low 50s) but the wind makes it yucky out.

I had to reread this part three times...I thought it said guN...not guM... :rolleyes1 Can't he argue he doesn't even chew gum because of his braces? I didn't think you could chew gum w/ braces? :confused3 Sux for him...once again, the 'good guy' gets the short end of the stick :sad2:

We got a figure for our car...already being resubmited because I think we're getting the short end of the stick...as usual :rolleyes2 What a pita!! :headache:

Time for vacation yet? :guilty:

Hello to everyone...weekend almost here....hang in there! :thumbsup2

You're a much nicer person than me. I would have been the darkest shadow on the asst. princ.'s door that day. Then again, that's why they call me Sharky :rolleyes1

Now don't get me wrong, if one of my kids are in the wrong, I will handle it, but after dealing with a teacher who was the school bully I don't tolerate little people in authoritative positions either. Unforunately, teachers being our kids bullies is a growing trend these days. There are still a great many of them who go into the job truly believing and caring and wanting to be the one who makes a difference, but there are those who have simply been there too long and won't leave when in truth, they need to. Then you have those who went into the job when they simply never should have. I am not anti-teacher. I try very hard every year to let each teacher know they can call me or email me any time if the need help in the class room with anything. I have been a school board employee and am always kept UTD on my volunteer status. What I have noticed in just the past few years is a growing trend of teachers NOT wanting parents in the classrooms helping out, and of those teachers who are more adamant about NOT having parents in the classrooms helping out I have observed a less than friendly teacher-child atmosphere. I've gone off on a tangent I know, but hearing that a teacher picks on a kids really ticks me off. It's an abuse of sorts, since the kids can't even defend themselves and the teachers know it. Are there GREAT teachers, absolutely, but... there are just as many who will abuse their authority over a child as well.

Hello to everyone...weekend almost here....hang in there! :thumbsup2

My DH asked to have my son removed before Christmas because of this conflict, we were told the party line about my son not being challenged in the other class. Her new stepdaughter transferred to my son's school and told him that this woman said to stay away from my son.

Yes. He's had problems with ADD at the beginning of the year because of the gluten issue, but he is not a bad kid. I could say the same thing about her new stepdaugher who when my son walked into help at the Soup Kitchen over the weekend told my son, with me standing there, to leave in this snotty little voice.
I asked my son later who the little brat was because I wanted to throttle her.
My DD had same teacher 2 years ago and says that this teacher is a witch who constantly belittles other students in her class.

DH also told same asst prin that my son is intimidated by him--we actually had to go to Board of Ed about same man last year. DH said he sat there with a smirk on his face until finally my husband told him that if he didn't wipe his smirk off his face then the meeting was over.

Sometimes I think that some of these people don't even like children in the 1st place and like you said are just plain bullies.

I told my son to do his time. I'm just tired of 7th grade. I met a teacher the other day who told me she just doesn't know what happens to teachers of 7th grade. They suddenly have no tolerance and forget how to teach.

Was told 2 years ago at the beginning of 7th grade for my DD that if you can get through 7th grade, then 8th grades a breeze. Only a couple of months to go.

And no he shouldn't have gum with braces. Stupid, know-it-all 13 year olds these days.:rotfl:

Couple random thoughts.

I agree that there are many people in teaching who shouldn't be or at least should no longer be. On the flip side, I have to feel that it gets to you after awhile. Year after year of dealing with the same stuff probably eventually reaches a breaking point, and the kid who gets it then most likely didn't even do much of anything.

This is the reason I didn't go into teaching. I enjoy my kids, but even they drive me crazy. ;) And after doing some substitute teaching, I fully realized that I don't like most other peoples' kids much! :rotfl: I would love to teach kids who want to learn, and push them, but unfortunately that's a small percentage, and probably the ones who don't need it as much. And yet my dad is determined that my goal in life is to be a teacher. I swear half the time I see him he spends talking about some teaching program I should get into. Never mind that I don't want to! Parents - gotta love them!

No days off here. Our area doesn't celebrate MLK or President's Day. We have no days off in Feb. We have a week in March, and then Fri & Mon over Easter. I'm hoping we make up our snow day that Monday since we haven't had Easter Monday off the past 2 years and I'd rather it be then instead of June!

And all three of my boys had braces with 2 different orthos and they were all fine with gum, as long as it was sugarless. :confused3 They actually stressed not drinking soda (pop) unless it was diet much more. Oh, and anything that could break off brackets - like hard candies, popcorn, nacho chips, etc. But gum was fine and these days there are a zillion sugarfree gums out there.

Where's the smiley with the Focker look??? That's the look I always give my son with braces :lmao: When he was having them put on before his orhto could even breath a word of the "do nots" I started in with the "do and dies". I am an Evil Evil Mom.

Good afternoon homies
Got a real bad storm here yesterday too and high winds and blew over DS's portable ball goal down on the fence and alot of shingels all over front yard and back and looked at our roof and not from ours :confused3

ud think by jr high a kid could be trusted with chewing gum:confused3 , far as i now there isn't a ban in our district once they're out of grade school

2 of my DSs had braces, both managed to chew gum (def not the sugar free type of kids) carefully...more issues with hard pretzel nuggets;)

stL i got tired out picking up the basketball hoop off the SUV a few years ago...even though it has a weighted base a good strong wind would knock it over...i took clothesline & tied it off to garage & retaining wall...doesn't look classy yet it does the trick

i've never seen a whole episode of survivor, getting jazzed re new AI season though...it's coming along nicely

kfed have fun planning!
