Something About Nothing............ #14

It's not even 8:30 and I have already had a productive morning. I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to pay bills. After that I made a dessert for our Christmas party tonight. Nothing else on the agenda today except maybe a trip to Walmart to buy more cat food.

I'm envious. I would love to be spending Christmas (or my birthday which is next week) with the mouse.

Stunning!!

Well, after a nice trip through New England, my package is now an hour away in Roanoke. It just might get to my house today.

Hope your parcel arrives, all three of mine arrived and I remembered them when I saw them. One of the emails said it would arrive before 11pm!!! Seriously, I doubt we`d open the gate for anyone at that time we didn`t know!!

Enjoy your party tonight!

Lovely cosy afternoon of black and white movies, glass of wine and only the christmas tree lights were on! Bliss.

Had some Thai food for dinner tonight, nice and spicy and I think we ordered the right amount tonight, not much left at all for the trash.

Settling down to watch maybe....Home Alone 1 & 2 with some fizz.

It is cold outside, best place to be tonight I think is to be tucked up inside.

Happy Saturday evening!!

Good Sunday morning, it`s a little breezy here today to say the least!!! It`s certainly windier than the forecast claimed.

It`s still pitch black outside but we are supposed to get some sunshine today, not much though, we don`t need to go out till just after lunchtime today and that`s over to Kyle`s and we`re staying for dinner which will be lovely. I think he`s doing a "short" run with one of his running groups this morning, a mere 15 miles 🥴

Hoping to see some pictures from our friends who are still in Orlando, think they have a week to go of their 28 night stay, they were doing the OI event again last night after the Luau at RP first, busy night for them. I`m sure they fly home just before Christmas, I need to ask!

Busy morning baking the cookies and shortbread for Kyle`s office today, last treat of the year for them from us and they`re always appreciated.

Breakfast first, bacon, poached egg on toast today, spicy chicken wrap for lunch and then steaks at Kyle`s for dinner, lush!!! But, second morning pot of tea coming up and another hour till sunrise. And didn`t see much of the meteor shower last night and looking at the cloud tonight, won`t see much of it then either.

But, have a lovely Sunday and wrap up warm!!!

Quick stop in!!!

We are back from a busy weekend in the city. We surprised dh's brother-in-law for his 50th birthday. His wife had organized a whole weekend but Saturday was a whole day of surprises. He got to go into the Oiler's alumni room and meet some former Oiler's players. Dh's sister had reserved seats in the sky box lounge for our whole group. That was a very cool experience. It was a great weekend of sneaking around so brother-in-law didn't see any extra family around.

I get to pick up gd from daycare today. DD is currently on her way home from the city. She was working there since last Thursday. So it will be a kid friendlier dinner tonight. Thinking spaghetti and meat sauce/meatballs depending on how much time I have.

My ears arrived. How adorable are these?
Those are soooooooooooo adorable!!!!!!!!!!
I think he`s doing a "short" run with one of his running groups this morning, a mere 15 miles 🥴
I feel that would be my look when someone says the same thing lol. I think it's amazing people can do that!!!!! It's just not for me lol.

Well...off to get more things done. I wanted to make a quick stop in today. We are busy today. Thank goodness my casual gal is here with me this week.

Have a great day everyone!

I meant to post earlier today but took a nap instead.

Yesterday went out to eat with a group from church like we usually do. There is a family that had been members of our church years ago, moved to California for 8 years, then moved back here a few months ago. One of their sons is on the autism spectrum. I remember his as a child who was prone to frequent meltdowns and would often wander off. His parents got him a service dog because of this. He is 18 now and so different from the little boy I remember. At lunch he was friendly, polite, eloquent….I could not believe this was the same person.

Today we had a gloomy, foggy day for my birthday. I thought about taking the day off work but glad I didn’t. My boss’s husband had to be taken to the hospital (nothing life threatening) so it was good that I was there to cancel appointments for her.

Last bit of news - the day after Christmas dh and I are traveling to North Carolina to meet his possible sister. She only lives a little over 2 hours from us. Dh is very nervous about this.

Nice ears, hope they are comfortable, I do like the purple.
Thanks. I think they will be. I suppose I could give them a test run before we go to Disney.

He got to go into the Oiler's alumni room and meet some former Oiler's players.
How awesome. He must have really enjoyed that surprise.

Lynne - I’m loving the castle pictures.

I need to get some sleep. It will be 7:30 before I know it.

Sounds like a lovely weekend and a nice surprise for your brother in law, it`s always lovely to give someone such a surprise.

Yes, running has never been something that appealed to me nor could I ever run even at school, I was a netball and girls hockey player, similar to lacrosse. But, those runners have dedication for sure and fitness levels that are scary!! I wish I had an ounce of his fitness level!

Enjoy your time with GD tonight, I`m sure she`ll love whatever you made for her and hope the rest of your week is a good one.

Hope you had a lovely birthday Charade.

I do hope the meet with the possible sister goes well, quite a brave thing to do as it can go one of two ways, but hopefully it`ll go well.

Yep, i`d be wearing them around the house for a time to make sure they`re comfy!

Busy day yesterday but a lot of fun with friends!!

This morning I have my Christmas hair appointment, going fairly early as it`ll be a long appointment, Olaplex treatment first, then highlights, a good cut and she also does every beauty treatment imaginable so going to get a facial and all the waxing done in one long appointment, looking forward to it as it is a good and genuine pampering session indeed!!!

8.30 appointment so should be done by maybe 1.30pm.

Plan to finish off most of the wrapping left to do, still quite a few presents left to do but I think I`m done buying now, I hope!! Apart from Tom, I`m still waiting on a rather special brandy I ordered him, hoping it comes in time and maybe a couple of bits and bobs for him too.

Doing lamb shanks for dinner, they`ll go in the slow cooker just before I leave and cook all day in red wine, chicken stock, cranberry sauce, garlic, diced leeks and lots of rosemary and a little spice, should be lovely, so mashed potato to soak up all that thickened gravy. Quite cold outside so nothing beats a winter warming dish like that.

Early breakfast, avocado on toast for me I think and of course tea!

A week till Christmas Eve now.....it`s getting closer!!!

Have a lovely Tuesday :santa:

Good Wednesday morning!!! Wild and woolly here again, just under 50mph winds and rain forecast later.

Had a really nice day yesterday, hair appointment was lovely and a slight new style, very short bob for a change but still layered so it has some bounce when I style it and Tom loves it!! Since it was Christmas there were croissants, cake and Bailey`s for clients, usual tea and coffee if you wanted, she really has made this salon so beautiful.

Then decided we would go out for drinks last night, so invited some friends and we met up in a lovely pub in a village central to all of us, it was a nice festive evening, I did laugh when one of the guys asked if my hair was "new"!!!! We knew what he meant, his wife said heck, be happy he noticed!! Our taxi driver home was dressed as the worst Grinch we have ever seen, he said he was following the principle of being Grinch like, ok.

So, we slept late this morning, hardly surprising listening to the wind, it was lovely just snoozing and listening to it knowing we had no need to get up to go anywhere. We are nipping out to pick up some milk, we seem to have gone through more than usual, our milkman leaves us the same amount twice a week, might need to up our order, lots of milky hot chocolates when friends pop in is probably the reason.

Dinner tonight is a quick one, hot honey flatbread with my own spicy southern baked chicken strips, coleslaw and some salad, it`s breezy but not cold today, roast beef and tomato open sandwich with honey mustard for lunch, we asked for rare slices so I hope they are.

A week till Christmas :santa: Most friends and their adult kids gifts have all been handed out, not much left to give away except Elise, her dad and grandma of course. Most godchildren get money or gift vouchers apart from one or two so that`s easy and goes with their Christmas cards. And our friends come back from Florida, I think this weekend, so will give them theirs then just before we leave if we can or leave them with their son.

Quick cuppa before we head out!

Have a lovely Wednesday :)

her brother is a fisherman and they have a plentiful supply of seafood!!! They were delicious though and yes, it felt like a treat.
Nice to have family in the fresh seafood business.

I have a nail appointment tonight. I am looking forward to that. Get the xmas nails done to match my antler headband I am currently sporting for work  It makes pt's laugh and smile when they see me. Anything to help make their time spent here easier.
Always nice to bring a smile to someone’s face for sure. Hope you enjoyed your nail appointment. Any salon day is a good one.

My parents ran into the same trouble with their ovens too. My dad luckily found one on facebook marketplace that someone was selling. IT was brand new. The person who originally purchased it, didn't end up using it for one reason or another. So after a quick trip to the city to pick it up, they had a brand new one. Dh installed it for them when we were there visiting last year. He was so happy to find it.
Great to hear they were able to find a new oven.

Got a txt after we were up asking what time I was dropping the baking off and a check list to what I said I`d do, then I realised I`d missed two ginger cakes! So, rustled up two before breakfast and managed to cool them down before wrapping them up and after breakfast dropped them all off to the village hall and the other bunch over to the church hall. I was glad to see there were plenty of folks who had donated too.
Glad to hear everyone chipped in to make the church bake sale a good one. Sounds like you contributed a lot of baked goods. That was very nice of you.

Afternoon to early evening fun:
Enjoy your time at Universal and the Mouse House. The Christmas light display on the Castle is pretty.

It is a gorgeous morning with beautiful blue skies and yes, we have sunshine, first for a few days so a walk was a good idea, however it was just too cold to walk for long, nice though.
Pretty sunrise picture.

My ears arrived. How adorable are these? They have a stretchy headband, so I don’t think they will hurt my head like regular mouse ears.
The Mickey Ears are really cute.

What a nice thoughtful celebration his your sister in law had for her hubby.

Nothing like a renewal visit at the Salon. There is just something about getting your hair done and other Salon treatments that make you feel like a million bucks.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it and how nice of the Salon owner to have everything decorated for Christmas and treats.

Ruth sending hugs and good thoughts your way.

Mac hope you are doing well.

Adrenaline hope you and your wife had a nice time at the Black tie wedding.

Janet hope you all enjoyed your cruise.

Can’t believe it’s been a week since I posted. Life does kinda get in the way this time of year.

The service guy will be here Friday to finish the fix on the double oven. Will be glad to get that done. I like having my double ovens to use all the time. Was glad to have one oven to work with, but have missed the second one.

My sister K and I went to see our Aunt Jane yesterday. She is our mom’s twin sister and the last one left in the family of her siblings. She is 85. We took her out to lunch and brought her some Christmas presents. She still plays the piano at church and sings. While we were visiting she played her piano at her apartment and sang a song that my mom, their older sister Christola and she sang on her radio show many years ago. It was good to see her.

My sister K and I then went to our mom and grandparents graves which is about an hour away in Kentucky.

I always enjoy spending time with my sweet little sister. She is a joy to be around.

I have to take the SUV in this morning for the first service visit today since we bought it.

Granddaughter M and I are going to The Mall at Green Hills in Nashville tomorrow for the day. I’am looking forward to spending the day with her. It is a nice drive about 2 1/2 hours from here. They have nice shops there to look around and there are nice restaurant options for lunch and dinner.

I have Christmas present wrapping pretty well done just a couple things to wrap.

We are doing a big scale down in our Christmas Eve celebration this year. We usually have 30 or more family members that come to celebrate. Just cannot take the chance of hubby getting sick again this year especially as he is still recovering from back surgery and a virus he picked up in the hospital.

Our grandson from Kentucky is coming up here to pick up all the gifts and envelopes for our family in kentucky. I have some big bags and I will have all the families gifts set up so they will be easy for him to hand out for us. We will miss seeing them.

Need to get scooting out the door to the Cadillac dealership.

Turn on all your Christmas decorations in the house it does make things cheery.

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone.

37 degrees out, and I swear I saw that camel stuck to the icy windshield with that cold feeling air, and before dawn commute.
But who do I see?

IMG_4056.jpeg

Oh, you must be camel’s friend we left in Florida, as seeing ya in the car window. Yeah, I wish we were still in Warner FLA.

But as a hump day, with the most joyful one next week, we get over today, and most fabulous Friday then a day away. Woot!

Good to see your post, Robo. May your Christmas be merry, and hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Day. So nice to spend time with family. Hope your DH is feeling better soon. Mummy dust well wishes his way sent.

Lunchtime pot luck lunch is soon, so getting hungry I am.

Most Wonderful Hump Day, Wednesday to all.

And hehe, rescheduled trip turned into a sweet one, and a bounce back one is a spooky one. Woot! Never cannot be plotting and scheming to wrangle a trip or two or more, in the next year.

Quick hump day stop in!!!!

Busy day yesterday and today. I started reading yesterday and that's as far as I got. Been busy, thankfully my casual girl is here. I've been busy doing my extra other admin work and she's been doing the unit clerk/admin tasks. We make a good team and get along well together. I wasn't sure how things would go before she started - as the previous casual girl and I got along well too. But it's been great. And the other casual lady we hired (who is still completing her training) seems easy to get along with as well.

We went dd last night. Dh installed a new furnace thermostat, only find out there is a piece that needs to be replaced on their furnace. Good thing he works where he does, as he will grab one off their shelves and install it tonight. The hopefully their furnace works better and heats the house a little better.

Tonight we will stop to do that at DD, then head off to finish off the stocking stuffers...then I'm officially done. I have most of the gifts wrapped now. Only one or two stragglers left. Hoping to finish my baking over the weekend. I have a few more things I want to whip up.

Today we had a gloomy, foggy day for my birthday
Happy belated birthday!!!! 1734547851304.png

I don't blame your dh about meeting his sibling. I can't even fathom the feelings he must be experiencing. How is your boss's husband doing now?

Sounds like you have had some great, but busy days! It is amazing you have such a wide circle of family around that you spend time with! It is great to hear your dh is slowly getting better.

Well, I should get going, and get more tasks completed off my to-do list.

Have a great day everyone!!!!!

I don`t blame you for cutting down the amount of contact with others, your DH is still so vulnerable, keeping him safe is of course your priority, everyone understands I`m sure.

Sounds like you had a lovely visit with your aunt, and some lovely memories there, your visit tomorrow with your Granddaughter sounds a lot of fun too!!! Hope you have a lovely lunch together too.

Yes, I love my house all year round, but with the Christmas lights and decorations around the place now, well, it`s even prettier and cosier!

Have a lovely day Robbie.

Have a great day everyone!!!!!

Glad you get on so well with the young lady, always nicer to get on well with co workers.

I think we`re in a similar place with Christmas prep Pumpkin, only bits and bobs left to do and weather wise, today was mild but cold is on the way!!! Not looking forward to that at all, especially with driving up to Scotland next week!

Have a great day.

Well, ended up dropping off my friends presents to their son today, I was wrong about when they return from Florida, not till next Tuesday morning and we`ll be in Scotland, so dropped them off with their son and will see them when we get back. I thought they were back on Saturday, but apparently not. 25 nights they have been there, chillier time of year than usual according to them, and yes, lots of hoodies in pictures!!!

Had a good day, Elise and her dad came to visit, had lunch with us and brought presents and left with presents, they are off to Switzerland skiing for Christmas, looks a lovely place they have chosen to stay in.

Kyle is in London with work this week, he sent us pics of his hotel yesterday, looks very nice!!! He`s back Friday night and that`s him off work for Christmas and he doesn`t go back till Jan 6th, they get a nice long break with this company.

Dinner over, pot of tea is empty, dishwasher is empty so will settle down and watch a Christmas movie tonight with a glass of wine, think it`s Tom`s choice tonight, so who knows what we`ll watch!

Feels like Thursday for some reason.......I`m all over the place with days right now!!

And a very good Thursday morning, yep, I realised today is Thursday and not Friday!

We headed out early this morning to pick up groceries we needed, then the butcher to get our order for the next few weeks and fishmonger for their salmon and smoked salmon, in and out of everywhere in record time and as we headed out of every place you could see them filling up going by the car parks. Home now and everything is unpacked and put away, Tom is making us a pot of tea

Chicken, bacon and leek pie for dinner tonight, I have the shortcrust pastry to make which is a hit or a miss for me, so hope it turns out nice. Going to have crackers, pate and some cheese with chilli jam for lunch, all we really feel like today, we do like a snacky picnic lunch at times.

6 more sleeps :santa:

Have a lovely Thursday 😊

Woot! Pasta centric lunch in the office so good eating lunch today, as many of us are still in the office commute mode too. As many are going on leave soon. Including me. Like tomorrow. But that woot needed, as last commuting day until the second, or first full week in January. Happy camper here.

But sigh. As the next month has two holidays, then the following month has one. Then the drought of holiday fun days, until the end of May.

But hey, then it’s starts that almost every month holiday, until next last one in February the year after. And I count my birthday, as a fun day, on the month in that holiday a month spread, that doesn’t have a holiday in it. You know, after May, June and July do. But no matter, that September holiday is close enough to my birthday, in that month long wait until the next holiday, as finds a happy time day to remember I’m another year older, since the day I was born.

But festive office we are, with some pictures from my office floor and door:
IMG_4058.jpegIMG_4060.jpegIMG_4061.jpeg

So have a Merry Grinchmas this year, all. Seems our floor and office dwellers are a Grinch fan.

And yay, only a little spread of ice on my car windows, so fired up that defroster, and clear enough to drive away, in that dark dark predawn sky. Though as I got closer to my destination, saw a lighted drone fly by, as buzzing above the city street that goes into where I go. I usually see news helicopters around. Sadly, have been shootings reported just outside my complex.

But a holiday feeling mode, today. Doggie Christmas shirt on. Which is good today is a Thirsty Thursday, as was thirsty, and what? Left the tea cup next to the bottle. Promptly got it and had refilled it not much after.

Good morning and hope all enjoy this last Thirsty Thursday before Christmas Day. Woot!

And a final yay. Just after late lunch time, it’s time to leave. Woot! A nice, much shorter day to a very short day, to end this week day routine days this week. And woot! Next week. Long day, then 59 minute shorter day, then no week day routine until the week after. But very happy to be teleworking the next two weeks when I am in week day routine day mode.

Quick Thirsty Thursday stop in!!!!! And yes - after this week, beverages might be consumed :rolleyes1

Busy day today on the unit. The last push to have pt's that only have a few treatments to be completed by Dec 24. Plus those who are in the consulting stages - we are pushing their specialized imaging until after Xmas. It's a delicate dance and of course we have limited staff :sad2: so I will probably have a few more grey hairs after this season is done.

Weather is still cold. I can't seem to spend much time without having my skin tingle - especially my fingers and ears. And with curly hair - I don't dare wear a beanie or toque as my hair would look like I've had my finger in a light socket.

The last of the items were bought last night and wrapped. I'm just going over with dd our food menu and who is bringing what for Xmas Eve and Xmas day! I am working Xmas Eve until probably 4:00 :sad1: For years with my old job, I was always done dec 22/23 and then they were closed between Xmas and New Years. So it is an adjustment for everyone. Next year, IFI have some vacation days left, I will use them for extra days off at Christmas time.

And a very good Thursday morning, yep, I realised today is Thursday and not Friday!
We have allllllllllllllllllll been asking if it's Friday yet!!!!! I have hinted that I'm going to bring Bailey's for our coffees at work soon

Your pie sounds intriguing. I follow a few British chefs on social media, I will have to see if they have ever made something like that. I think I would really enjoy that!
So have a Merry Grinchmas this year, all. Seems our floor and office dwellers are a Grinch fan.
Love it!!!!! We have some xmas decorations up. Not as much as other year apparently. But honestly, we have been slammed with patients that there has been very little down time.

I started this post this morning - it's not about 30 minutes to home time. Busy day, but my to-do list is completed :cheer2: Tomorrow is just doing my regular admin tasks.

Off to get charts ready for tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!!!!
