Something About Nothing............ #14

Quick Thirsty Thursday stop in!!!!! And yes - after this week, beverages might be consumed :rolleyes1

Busy day today on the unit. The last push to have pt's that only have a few treatments to be completed by Dec 24. Plus those who are in the consulting stages - we are pushing their specialized imaging until after Xmas. It's a delicate dance and of course we have limited staff :sad2: so I will probably have a few more grey hairs after this season is done.

Weather is still cold. I can't seem to spend much time without having my skin tingle - especially my fingers and ears. And with curly hair - I don't dare wear a beanie or toque as my hair would look like I've had my finger in a light socket.

The last of the items were bought last night and wrapped. I'm just going over with dd our food menu and who is bringing what for Xmas Eve and Xmas day! I am working Xmas Eve until probably 4:00 :sad1: For years with my old job, I was always done dec 22/23 and then they were closed between Xmas and New Years. So it is an adjustment for everyone. Next year, IFI have some vacation days left, I will use them for extra days off at Christmas time.

We have allllllllllllllllllll been asking if it's Friday yet!!!!! I have hinted that I'm going to bring Bailey's for our coffees at work soon

Your pie sounds intriguing. I follow a few British chefs on social media, I will have to see if they have ever made something like that. I think I would really enjoy that!

Love it!!!!! We have some xmas decorations up. Not as much as other year apparently. But honestly, we have been slammed with patients that there has been very little down time.

I started this post this morning - it's not about 30 minutes to home time. Busy day, but my to-do list is completed :cheer2: Tomorrow is just doing my regular admin tasks.

Off to get charts ready for tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone!!!!

British pies are something special, very moreish and always lovely. Mine worked out nicely tonight, pastry success!

Having Christmas off is special, if you celebrate of course, yes, keep your days and have that time with family. And enjoy those Baileys, love one or three anytime!

Cold here too, frost this morning, so automatic start on the car was welcome, we’re not getting much warmer over the next few days.

Hope the rest of your day went quickly.

Had another Christmas night out……friends are the best! Ended up being around 20 of us tonight and singing Carol’s in the local pub, really nice night and I won a prize in the Christmas Raffle…..a meal out at a local restaurant that is nice, the are mainly known for steaks, will go in the new year.

Not long home, it is cold out there, house was cosy to come into.

Heard from Kyle who was enjoying a nice dinner with the other folks down with him, he’s had a lovely week away, will see him on Saturday to hear all about it, we’re going out for lunch and a Carol service in a huge garden centre in the afternoon.

So proud of our boy and everything he has achieved!

Up early tomorrow, some friends popping in, but will be baking for some village events next two days, but will stop for a cuppa with them. Have their presents wrapped and ready to go.

Watching a strange horror film right now, nope, not for me!

Bed soon for us……..:)

Good evening everyone. My weekend has begun and I am hoping to have a quiet one. I need to get to the grocery store and get stuff for home and stuff to make our contribution to Christmas diner. We will be with the same friends who hosted Thanksgiving. I volunteered to bring a squash casserole and a chocolate peanut butter pie.

I do hope the meet with the possible sister goes well, quite a brave thing to do as it can go one of two ways, but hopefully it`ll go well.
I think it will go well. She seems to be a nice person from what we can tell through phone calls.

This morning I have my Christmas hair appointment, going fairly early as it`ll be a long appointment, Olaplex treatment first, then highlights, a good cut and she also does every beauty treatment imaginable so going to get a facial and all the waxing done in one long appointment, looking forward to it as it is a good and genuine pampering session indeed!!!

8.30 appointment so should be done by maybe 1.30pm.
You have so much more patience than me. I can’t imagine spending that much time in the salon. I keep saying I am going to stop coloring my hair and just live with the gray, but haven’t been brave enough yet.

My sister K and I went to see our Aunt Jane yesterday. She is our mom’s twin sister and the last one left in the family of her siblings. She is 85. We took her out to lunch and brought her some Christmas presents. She still plays the piano at church and sings.
Sounds like you all had a great time together It’s great that she is still doing the things that she loves.

We went dd last night. Dh installed a new furnace thermostat, only find out there is a piece that needs to be replaced on their furnace. Good thing he works where he does, as he will grab one off their shelves and install it tonight. The hopefully their furnace works better and heats the house a little better.
Hope you got that fixed. I can’t imagine not having adequate heat. I’m a wimp when it comes to any extremes in temperature.

Happy belated birthday!!!!
Thank you. Love the sloth.

I don't blame your dh about meeting his sibling. I can't even fathom the feelings he must be experiencing. How is your boss's husband doing now?
The funny thing is that he was fine finding out he has a niece, but is a little weirded out about having siblings.

I sent dh on an errand today. Our sweet little English tea room officially closed yesterday. ☹️ Today the owner started selling off some of the items in the shop. I sent dh to get some teacups as a little memento. (I couldn’t get there before the owner left for the day.) I asked for 2 and he came back with this

IMG_0932.jpeg
Which I will give to B.

And he couldn’t decide between these 2 for me so he got both.

I guess I’ve never been the type that goes in for a quick appointment, there used to be a woman in the place I used to go, she got a colour over her dry and brittle hair, in for 45 minutes and gone. No pampering there.

I enjoy the experience, hair treatments, beauty treatments and nice chit chat in a beautiful salon, yep, I enjoy it. Nah, you’re too young for such a stark look yet!

Tea cups and saucers are lovely! Very British and traditional, can’t beat a good cup and saucer, better than a mug any day.

Glad the potential sister sounds nice, I imagine she’s as curious and maybe as nervous as you all are.

Good Friday morning!!!

It`s the weekend....or just another day for us ladies wot lunch:duck:

It is cold out there this morning, glad I`m not going out today, this morning is all baking with a little housework flung in, not that much to do though. Tom is nipping out for eggs from the farm, can`t bake without them and will hand their present in too, easy for them, bottle of Brandy for him and gin for the lady, easy peasy!! And we need a few other things too I forgot to get yesterday, he`ll be thrilled to go to the store for them on the last Friday before Christmas...oops!

Friends popping in for an hour, told them I`d be baking but I think it`s the only time they`re free, I have plenty if they stay for lunch, depends when they arrive. But, two large events in our village this weekend and Santa makes an appearance at one, so we need lots of treats and goodies, again will leave the fancy christmassy decorated ones to those that can!!!

Ended up watching a movie with the wonderful Maggie Smith last night, she was so much more than Professor McGonagle or Downton Abbey, amazing actress.

Breakfast soon, croissants with fruit and proscuitto this morning, lunch will be bread, some continental meats, olives and balsamic dip and dinner will be a couple of steaks! Look forward to that.

Have a lovely Friday!!!

Stupid me forgot to turn off my alarm, so I was up at 7:30 on a day I could sleep in.
Today will be a super exciting day of grocery shopping and doing laundry.
I think I am just about ready for Christmas. All gifts are wrapped and ready to go under the tree. Tuesday night I will make a pie and Wednesday morning I will make the squash casserole. We will be spending the day with a small group of friends.

No snow in our forecast thank goodness, but I worry about the weather for our March trip. I keep watching flight prices hoping they will come down enough that we can change our flights to our home airport without much added expense.

You sound quite organised which is such a good feeling! And nice to spend Christmas with good friends. No snow for us either yet, but it`s freezing here!!

Well, busy day baking, all the ovens were in use and thankfully Tom was there to help with bringing stuff out and getting the next batches in as well as filling the dishwasher and washing things that don`t go in it.

Friends did stop by which was nice, they did sample some of it, but not much and didn`t stay for food so we worked through lunch and finished in nice time for afternoon tea. Dropped it all off and glad to see there will be a lot of donations for tomorrow and Sunday, we will pop in for half an hour tomorrow but Kyle is coming and we`re going out for lunch and spending the afternoon with him before he goes out for another Christmas night out with some of his friends, why not!!

Sunset is so early!! But the shortest day is tomorrow, it only gets lighter from now on.....eventually. January and February can be brutal and still so dark.

Looking forward to sitting down later with our steaks, bottle of wine and a movie!! Loving all these Christmas movies. House is toasty and warm, but it is baltic outside and same for the next few days. Will definitely wrap up warm there 🥶

It's Friday :cheer2: Dragged my butt out of bed and headed into work - even though it seems like I've picked up some sort of crud/bug. It seems to be hitting my chest - which is NOT good for me. It takes me forever to get over any chest infections. So it's mask on today. I came in as 2 others are already out with something, and we are incredibly short staffed as it is. Hopefully with a weekend ahead, I can get some down time and recuperate a little before the last of the big push to have pt's complete their treatments before the holidays starts.

Quiet night last night - once I got home :sad2: Traffic was a nightmare with 3 major roads being closed due to bad accidents (yes there were fatalities) what should only take 7-10 minutes took me 55 minutes to get home. What a nightmare. Our little city is NOT set up well for alternate routes when things like that happen. Thank goodness we live more central in the city. I heard it took some people nearly 2 hours to get from one end of the city to the other end. And it didn't matter which way or how you tried to find a residential route, it was blocked.

I felt the crud start sometime yesterday afternoon - but brushed it off....then last night after dinner while I was trying to bake off another batch of Xmas cookies - it hit!!!!! ugh :worried:
I sent dh to get some teacups as a little memento. (I couldn’t get there before the owner left for the day.) I asked for 2
Those are very pretty! What an amazing memento!
I need to get to the grocery store and get stuff for home and stuff to make our contribution to Christmas diner.
DD and I are getting our lists completed. The texts have been flying back and forth lol
we need a few other things too I forgot to get yesterday, he`ll be thrilled to go to the store for them on the last Friday before Christmas...oops!
I already told dh and dd that if either of them want to go out with me....it's as soon as stores open. Dh is always up before me - that I'm good on that side. But with dd, that may be a different story. I HATE when it's too peopley. The energy from being in a grocery store is very hard/toxic and I need to cord cut or smudge to get that residual energy off of me.
Sunset is so early!! But the shortest day is tomorrow, it only gets lighter from now on.....eventually. January and February can be brutal and still so dark.
That is beautiful!!!! Tomorrow is Winter Solstice!!! It takes until at least the end of January before we really start to notice that the days are longer! WE are all counting down the days in our house. As much as dh and ds like winter, the darkness definitely takes a toll on our mental health.

Well, I should get a few things done here. I'm alone today, but so far, it's good! Not too much has exploded onto my shoulders today.

Have a great day everyone!

Aww Pumpkin, last thing you need the week before Christmas!! Hope it does clear and you can enjoy some family time without feeling awful. Yes, take the weekend to recover!!

It`s awful when traffic affects us, you always feel sad when there has been a fatality of course. We have lots of country roads around us, and weirdly considering how winding they are, we very rarely hear of anything nasty, but the main roads!! Wacky Races!!

Yes, we won`t see any change in getting lighter till around the same time, by the end of February before the time change, that`s when we begin to notice a change that makes us smile.

I agree, much as though we love cosy winter nights, once December is over, we`re both ready for lighter nights and warmer weather.

Take it easy over the weekend, drink lots of hot drinks and a hot toddy might not be the worst thing to have now and again. Hope you feel much better so you can really enjoy the festivities

Steaks have been marinading all day, Tom is getting ready to cook them, everything else is ready to go, I think they`ll only take a few minutes a side for rare, getting peckish now!!

Errands all done. Dh and I went to Kroger this morning. Very busy today and lots of seniors shopping. I couldn’t wait to get out if there. I had to go to another store because Kroger didn’t have one of the items I needed. Thankfully that store was much quieter. I also went to Hobby Lobby because I am almost out of a color of thread I am using for a project. I thought it would be crazy there, but it was pretty quiet too. Traffic was terrible driving home. Is everyone off work today?

Sunset is so early!!
What a gorgeous sunset.

Oh no. I hope you are able to get over it by Christmas.

I HATE when it's too peopley.
Same here.

Hehe.we have a room with a view:
Great view!

Well, I don’t plan on going out again today unless there is an emergency. I am going to do laundry and stitch.

This time of year is just dreadful, we definitely avoid crowds where we can, it`s not fun, so limiting crowd time is always a good idea. Staying home today sounds like a plan.

It is a beautiful sunset, sometimes this time of year it`s just grey which looks bleurgh, but the light on the last few evenings has been gorgeous.

Shopping at 3 this close to a holiday was a mistake.
Roads full and stores full.
We have folks over after Christmas morning for steaks outside on the grill if the weather cooperates.
Hope everyone stays warm and dry.

Oh absolutely, we wonder where all these folks are for the rest of the year!!!

Hope you manage to get your steaks!

Another wild and woolly day here I think, we can see why one of our village events has been moved to an indoor venue today, high winds forecast later, we`ll be certainly home and tucked up by the time they get really bad.

Few little jobs to do this morning, Kyle will be over mid morning then we head out to another Christmas event together, the he heads home for a Christmas night out with friends. I think we are going to stay home tonight, we were supposed to be going to a pub with some other friends but the weather looks miserable.

Chinese Takeout I think for us. I found a present I forgot I bought Tom way back in October!!! So will get that wrapped today and I think that`s my wrapping all done. Once we`re home this afternoon it`ll be feet up, some sparkly and hopefully some decent tv or dvd`s. Christmas Vacation is our movie tonight now we`re staying in.

Eggs Royale for breakfast this morning, will do the same tomorrow, will be an earlier breakfast as we`re out for lunch, but that`s not a heavy lunch today

Our hotel doesn`t offer dishes like that, I`m surprised as it is a very nice hotel. They offer a continental selection including smoked salmon you help yourself to, and order from the cooked options, but sadly no Eggs Royal or Benedict while we`re in Scotland, it`s a lovely breakfast they offer though.

Off to do breakfast now, Tom will do the eggs and I`ll make the tea and make the sauce, looking forward to this!!!

Have a lovely Saturday and four more sleeps till Christmas :santa:

The rocketettes show was very different than I remember. But they have embraced the HD, 21st century. But iconic and I was in the nose bleed section, but direct center. Was better, as show was on sides of the theater as well as the ceiling, so was better to be higher as to not have to look up all the time.
IMG_4067.jpeg

Sorry, a little blurry, as was so bright. But blow it up closer, the white are the rocketttes, with Santa in the middle.

No fuss no muss as we had a great time. And even though we got into the city late, the local train we wanted to catch, would have left before we arrived. As we were so thankful, the local train was also a few minutes more late, so we barely made it on. Otherwise would have been a 45 minute wait for the next one.

But glad to be home, and baking and chocolate making in earnest tomorrow.

Eeek, this coming week, starting tomorrow, is mid week Christmas Day.

And crappy older one. Didn’t even bother to wipe the 2 or so inches of snow left on my car.

So envious! I would love to see a Rockette show. The closest I have come is when B and I want to NYC. We took a tour of Radio City Music Hall and B had her picture taken with one of the Rockettes.

Good Sunday morning!!

3 more sleeps till Santa!!!

That shortest day really was short.

Had a lovely day yesterday with Kyle, enjoyed the event and lunch, we popped into our village event for half an hour and it was a huge success despite the high wind. Tom was kind of rushing us away, it was cold so I thought it was that, so came home and Tom said, pack an overnight bag we`re going to the Spa Hotel about an hour away from us for an overnight stay!!!

Packed quickly, got there around 4.30 and enjoyed the hotel bar and restaurant which we hadn`t eaten in since they revamped it, it was lovely and very festive. We didn`t use their spa or pool, just enjoyed the hotel. It really was a lovely evening just the two of us and a wonderful early Christmas present!! Not really a celebration, but we did get engaged on Dec 21st all those many years ago.

Left quite early after breakfast and not long home. Breakfast was beautiful, but far too much food, we both ordered Eggs Royale and neither of us could eat more than half of it, but they did offer a wonderful selection of quality teas, so we were happy bunnies.

Two of our friends are Jewish so don`t celebrate Christmas, but we always get them a "Holiday" gift every year, so we bought them some vouchers from this hotel, they do like it there and go often, so I think they`ll appreciate them. Same with their kids, we always get them something but officially it`s not a Christmas present.

Lazy day ahead, too cold really to go out, but it is a beautiful sunny day, we don`t need anything so we`ll watch the last of the Christmas movies today I think, with some snack food for later, won`t need lunch that`s for sure. No more baking for us now till New Years, it`s all done and we don`t bake for ourselves over Christmas.

Off to make a pot of tea and make sure I`m organised, check all presents are wrapped and ready to go, if not we have tomorrow for any last minute stuff we might need.

Have a lovely Sunday whatever you`re doing :santa:

Florida weather forecasters are hilarious. 38 degree low and they call it POLAR. Still in shorts and flip flops but will probably wear a hoodie. Christmas is supposed to be 70 with chance of a sprinkle. If it looks like a real rain, I'll have to set up an awning or tent for the smokers. Happy heading back to longer days day.
