Something About Nothing............ #14

A surprise morning post from me. We had to get up a little early because we had someone coming at 8:00 to give us an estimate to replace and widen our driveway. Yesterday we asked on our neighborhood chat group if anyone could recommend a paving company. Didn't get any recommendations, but 5 other neighbors expressed interest in having their driveways paved too. One was wondering if we could get a neighborhood discount.

Hope you get it all worked out soon. I am still planning to be there September 16-22.

I haven't even made it to work yet and I am already looking forward to leaving.

Beautiful!

Just got the estimate for the driveway. :scared1: I'm glad we don't have a super long driveway.

Good luck with the driveway! We got ours done a couple of years ago, we have a very long drive and we also got them to cover a lawned area. We knew it wasn`t going to be cheap, but we both took a double gulp before we said go ahead......lol.....we ended up going with black/dark grey pattern imprinted concrete, it looks fabulous.

It`ll be worth it when you do it, it`ll look much better I`m sure.

Yep, I love our beach, sunrises are beautiful over the ocean for sure. Looking forward to some lovely sunsets next week in Scotland.

Hope you have a good day at work.

Ooh sounds like you need to see a few more to make sure price is good, Charade. Nice they came early for you. I gulped when I saw the price of reroofing our rather large amount of roof. But we did it, and it looks great. Hope your driveway looks great too when it gets done.

Yeah, I love a beach sunrise. Beats the city one I got this morning. And I have the noise of a loud grass mower for some time now. So nice to only have to deal with the city once a week.

charade would be nice to see you in the September trip even if it is a “hey how are you with a hi and by.”

I leave on the 18th to go to the Ocala home unless plans change and I end up back in GA that date.

My september trip starts earlier than usual this year.

Good luck with the driveway!
Thanks. We desperately need to widen it now that we have 3 cars. I wish we could expand the garage, but there is no room.

The difficult part is getting people to come out and give an estimate. I contacted 6 companies and heard back from 3. One of the 3 only does repair and sealcoating, not full driveways. The guy who came this morning was supposed to come out yesterday afternoon, but forgot. Not making a very good first impression.

I’m going to be there longer this time than I was the last time. We should be able to meet at some point.

So far it is a slow day. I don’t mind. Hopefully I won’t have to deal with any insurance companies today.

Ooh I come in on the 17th, so maybe a quick hello that night, Mac. Due to my use of only direct flights, I’m not getting there until dinnertime. I’m thinking if I decide to come next Fall, will be earlier than I have done this year and in the past. Started early October when I decided a Fall fun trip.

Still hearing that mower. And a loud coworker. Wish it was lunchtime, as will then put my sneakers back on, and go for a walk.

We had around 4 quotes, all from companies recommended by friends, they didn`t vary too much in price which helped. We ended up choosing the one I liked best, they weren`t the cheapest but we were really happy with the finished job, all you want really.

You`ll find someone you`re happy with I`m sure....yes, I wouldn`t choose someone that forgot to turn up. A genuine reason is different as long as there was a call, but to completely forget, er no.

Will pencil you in for a quick hello and you will see two homies at the same time as will be with Janet our last night in the park.

Glad you got your dates sorted mac with Janet, I know how much you`re both looking forward to it. And nice you`ll see Charade too.

Lots of gulping around today, quite the coincidence.

We have Kyle for dinner tonight which will be lovely, he asked for my home made burgers as he hasn`t had one for a long time. He`s not someone who eats any kind of fast food burger, but home made is very different. Made a very small chocolate cake today with a chocolate ganache topping and centre, he`s not eating much chocolate as he`s training for the marathon and has already lost over 14lbs since we came home from Orlando!! I think he`s given it to me!!! But he will take a small piece tonight.

Hot and sticky today, but clouding over now.

Off to make a pot of tea, dinner isn`t for another couple of hours yet, will be after 6 anyway.

Crikey, just had a call from two of our friends who were spending 6 weeks touring France, Italy and Spain, she passed out from the heat and was hospitalised on Monday. They`re flying home tomorrow.

They are having extreme heat in those countries including other parts of Europe. Possibly reaching 44C or higher which is 112F. The Acropolis in Athens have put up shades as have many other tourist highlights and handing out water. One area in Italy was even warmer at almost 50C. Crazy temps.

They are used to high temps as they lived in France for many years including the heatwave that killed so many years back. She says she`s ok now, but He said he thought she was gone at one point.

Will go see her before we leave for Scotland, which will be dramatically cooler thankfully!

Yikes! Glad she is going to be okay. 112 is crazy. It’s 90 here and I am too hot. I’m thankful for the person who invented air conditioning.

Good news here. B has a job interview next week. It’s a temporary position at the campus bookstore, but at least it is a source of income until she finds a permanent job.

Good luck to your daughter Charade, a temporary position is better than nothing and the experience will do her so much good. Hope she gets something permanent soon too.

Thank you, she`s a tough cookie so I was surprised she actually passed out, she had been drinking lots of water and she doesn`t drink alcohol so it wasn`t that. So many places in Europe don`t have air-conditioning due to the older buildings, but their hotel at the time was a modern one with full aircon, but she was outside at the time she collapsed.

Another couple of friends are flying to Turkey on Saturday, not a place I`d set foot in, but they love it, seems they`re rethinking the trip as they`re taking their grandaughters, but maybe not the best idea.

Waiting for Kyle to arrive then we`ll pop the burgers on the griddle, everything else is ready to go, I am starving!!

I think I just heard the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard. We are experiencing some strong thunderstorms right now. Some parts of town have hail. We lost power for literally 1 second, just long enough that all of the clocks are blinking. Hoping we don’t lose power for real.

Stay safe Charade. Glad you didn’t loose power much. Yeah hated having to reset clocks when we lost power during a storm in the Spring. Our rain chances seem to be 7 pm to 6am. Whatever. Was so humid and hot out. Air quality alert issued until midnight tonight. Saying we are in the orange zone, but source not confirmed. I’m guessing all the crap hanging in that way high humid air.

So happy to turn off that alarm when I got home, and changed to shorts and a t shirt. Those office clothes don’t breathe as much as cotton my clothes are made of that I have on now.

Ouch, here I am behind again :sad2: Roots all touched up, there were lots of them. Lucky it’s not that noticeable. But always feels good.
For taco Tuesday, I made tacos with the Trader Joes Chicken Asada. It was tasty. Time for another Trader Joes cross border trip!
Tomorrow meeting a friend for coffee. Saturday is dinner at my brother in laws down the road. He just phoned to tell us he was working at his workbench tinkering with something and a bear walked in! They looked at each other then Mr Bear ambled on his way.

Schumi & Lynne, always nice to see your sunrises! I enjoy mine too, over the mountains!
Tomorrow meeting a friend who wants to talk to me about her upcoming knee replacement. I had mine done a few
years back.

@macraven have you tried Melatonin? White noise app? Breathing exercises? You can google them. I do have an Rx for sleep, but 30 pills lasts me 4 months. I only use when desperate or traveling.

@Lynne G Lynne yikes that’s major road work. Hope you aren’t inconvenienced too much. Yes I am relaxing more this week, I learned! Enjoying my deck and patio. The weather has been beautiful. And a nice breeze.

@Pumpkin1172 , my giddy up is probably in the same place! Lol. Yum Saskatoon Berries. Love jam from the berries. My husband just went Blueberry picking on his friends farm this morning. Kept some fresh, and have some in freezer. I pull out the freezer ones for smoothies. Yum.
Hope your silo’s surgery goes well, and she’s stocked up with stretchy bras for awhile. Nice you’re close enough to help out. She won’t be able to do much for a while. No lifting etc. My daughters doing the vacuuming and mopping!

@schumigirl if I was in the theatre I’d be the one yelling too! I’m very jumpy. Once on a flight I gasped out loud then Covered my mouth. It was completely involuntary lol. The lady next to me started laughing, then we were both laughing.
Gotta love those recliner theatres! It’s a game changer!

@Charade67 your DH is quite cheeky, clear conscience. Lol! Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.
Boston sounds fun, with the tea party reenactment!

@Robo56 we loved watching the Shrek meet & greets! The interactions were hilarious. .
We love going to the movies when something good comes out. Folks here seem to be well behaved. I want to see the new Indiana Jones movie.

Glad the injection is working for your husband. Back pain is awful.
Enjoy your pizza party With family.
Nooooo, way too early to see Halloween decorations! Can’t we enjoy summer?

@macraven I’m sure it’s nice to have your husband back home! Speaking of hotels I just phoned Royal Pacific to double check on my reservations. Everything in order. But i always check. What dates are you changing too? I envy all of you on the east coast that can easily zip down for a few days!
No floods here. Quite the opposite. We’re so dry. Lots of forest fires sparked by lightening. There’s a new fire on one of the local ski mountains. They are using water planes to try and halt it. The terrain isnt accessible by foot.

@schumigirl fortunately our friends chickens are in a large fenced area, but not to say sometimes they aren’t out walking around. But they never come around us.
I had our fresh picked blueberries with some vanilla icecream (not home made lol) but was good.
Do tell the recipe for Chick-fil-A sauce!

@Charade67 gotta love the neighbourhood chat groups! So helpful. We have a neighbourhood FB group. I found an appliance guy from it. Ended up we needed a new fridge. Just before I left for last Universal trip. Bad timing. Had to leave husband to pick out new fridge :scared: he did ok though.
Did you get the neighbourhood discount on the driveway?!

Yikes that is scary. Glad your friend is ok. My friends daughter is over in Italy right now. I hope she’s alright.
safe travels to Scotland, and enjoy your visit.

So scary. Stay safe! Once in AKL in my room I’m sure lightening hit the hotel near our room. It was so loud and sounded like an explosion. I felt it thru my body it was so loud. And it was so sudden I screamed.

Is anyone in a position to see the northern lights this week? It’s suppose to be viewable further south than normal. News was saying there’s a chance we may see them.
What about you Pumpkin as you’re quite a bit north of me.

We are under a flash flood warning now. I think it’s supposed to rain off and on all weekend. This puts a literal damper on my plans.

Time for another Trader Joes cross border trip!
I have never been to Trader Joes. I’m not even sure if there is one near me.
Tomorrow meeting a friend for coffee. Saturday is dinner at my brother in laws down the road. He just phoned to tell us he was working at his workbench tinkering with something and a bear walked in! They looked at each other then Mr Bear ambled on his way.
That’s scary. We’ve had a few bear sightings around here, but fortunately none near me.
Did you get the neighbourhood discount on the driveway?!
We have only gotten 2 estimates so far and have not coordinated anything with the neighbors. A third company is supposed to contact us soon.

Luckily the cable and internet weren’t out long. Dh and I just finished watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He wants to go see the new movie soon, so I am catching up on the ones I have missed.
