Something About Nothing............ #14

Calm before the storm.....

i-xFNBghj-X2.png

Sky is now as black as the ace of spades, wind has died down completely and feels incredibly humid, I think the predicted thunderstorm is going to happen.

Won`t be eating lunch outside as planned, so quiche and salad inside for us, we do have the bifold doors wide open in the kitchen, but if the rain batter down we`ll close them over, hoping it`s a good storm!

My friend picked me up and we headed to Pandora at local mall to shop for a friends birthday present. Then stopped for coffee. We poked into a few stores and saw a shirt I liked but not up to trying on things yet.
surgical site is getting better day by day but still sore. Have my post op appt on 21st. Still no word on oncologist appt.
Sue so good to hear you are feeling better. Getting out does make the soul happy for sure. Glad to hear you are healing well. Continued healing thoughts and prayers being sent your way.

Great to hear you are going to make your vacation in August to Universal. You will be able to say hello to the Minions.

Might sit in the garden this afternoon, waiting for a parcel to arrive today, I ordered and beautiful tea service, lovely silver teapot that will need some cleaning to keep it shiny!!! It`s supposed to arrive today, just spoke to mum and she mentioned last thing I need is another teapot!! She`s probably right.
Sounds like a nice purchase. So cute that your mom was talking you about all your tea sets. I say if you like tea sets and they make you happy buy them. You and Tom enjoy your tea and drink lots of it. Enjoying your tea with an elegant tea set sounds lovely.

Weather has been warm - ish. Not scorching hot, but pleasantly warm - and has been quite cool in the evenings - which is really weird for summer. But this weather is also creating lots of thunderstorm warnings too...and the headaches that come with the barometric changes :rolleyes2 I'll take this warm weather over our winter days - hands down.
They call that barometer brain around here. Also cooler air and rain seems to affect the arthritic bones too. Never thought about those things when I was younger.

I hope you enjoyed your time with your niece and little J. They are a hoot and a half. It's only been a few days, and I'm already missing our gd. I'm counting down to when we see them next.
I did have a wonderful time with niece and little J. He is so precious. You are right those little ones are so fun to watch.

It was too hot out so we went to the play area at the Mall. We stopped at Build a Bear and J picked out the cutest little dog. We named it Joodles on the birth certificate and he loved it.

Happy Friday. Dh has a bit of a cold, so I decided it would be a good idea to spend some time away from home. B received a surprise monetary gift from her great aunt yesterday, so our first stop was the bank. Next was lunch then Barnes and Noble so B could spend some of the gift cards she got for graduation. Next was a trip to Sam’s Club - mostly for toilet paper, but I also ended up getting some pyjamas and a shirt. We ended the day at Crumble Cookies. We had a coupon for a free cookie. Now I’m trying to shake a headache.
What a nice surprise gift to receive from her great-Aunt. Sound like you and B had a nice shopping day.

I do love the outdoors, just no desire to slum it in a tent. I know many that love camping but not for us, I believe that old saying where the only stars I`ll sleep under are 5 stars! Yep, hotel for us.
I enjoy walking outdoors and putzing around in the yard. Tent camping is not for me either.

My brother in law and his family were into hiking and camping and one year my sister in laws good friend came along. She was stung by a scorpion during the night and my brother in law and nephew had to hike out of the canyon to go get a ranger for help. She came pretty close to dying.

They told us how they had to hang their food in the tree branches to keep the bears from coming close to their tents while they slept. Noooooooooot for me.

I like a nice air conditioned room and a warm bubble bath after a day out walking.

Well the sun was peeking through when I woke up a little while ago. Now it’s getting dark out and there is thunder rolling in. We have a storm heading our way. We have had a couple days of relief from the rainy weather. Everything needs a good watering so no complaints.

Not much planned today. It just started pouring rain outside. I had planned to get outside and do a few things today, but that can wait until tomorrow.

I might head out later and have a walk around some shops. Need to pick up a birthday present.

I think I will go lay back down for an hour.

Black stormy sky’s + pouring rain = sleep…..LOL

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone.

Today has been a very lazy day. I have spent most of it either reading or sleeping. The most productive thing we did was make the decision to go to Washington DC over fall break. We had planned a trip back in March of 2020, but.......

Hope the headache doesn't mean you’re getting the cold!
So far I don't have any cold symptoms. I think it was from not using my CPAP.

Sending well wishes mummy dust to your DH.
Thanks. He has plans for tomorrow nigh, so I expect he will be feeling much better by then.

I like that expression. I have often said that my idea of roughing it was staying at a hotel without concierge service.

I love bears, but only want to see them from a safe distance.

It's too early to go tot sleep, so I think I will read some more.

lol....yes, nicer hotel room for me too. I should say us as Tom and Kyle are exactly the same. Kyle did go on an outward bound trip once with the school, not camping but it was military like cabins they slept in....he said it wasn`t too bad but wouldn`t go again, no surprises there!

But goodness me, scorpions! Sounds horrific and thankfully she survived, how scary though. And yes, I won`t wander into somewhere that doesn`t belong to me and if bears want the woods, they can have them!

Glad you had a lovely time with the little one and your niece, I love the name of the bear too, how cute. I have never been in any of the Build a Bear stores, it does look so cute though.

Yes, we British take our tea seriously.......I always lay out a proper tea set with a nice teapot, even if I`m drinking out of a large mug!! My mum is always horrified with mugs, she does have some, of a sort, but they are fancy china mugs lol. Never tea bags though......it`s one of the very few things we don`t enjoy in America, thankfully we have more that we love in the States.

I ♥️ the minions

Reminds me of my 4 boys who many times had me going nuts as they were so busy and when we were in stores

Minions are so cute!! I don`t have my Minion soft toys anymore as my friend`s granddaughter Elise "borrowed" them a long time ago and I never got them back......lol.....I take the blame as it was me who introduced her to Minions in the first place. I`m running out of things to take back for her from our trips!!

Washington DC looks an amazing place to visit, along with Boston it`s up there on my list, been to NYC many times now and I`m sure we`ll go back at some point as we have family there but plenty of other cities to see too.

Yes, no concierge would be like slumming it lol......

We did get some thunderstorms yesterday, it was so good that it cleared that humid air we had for a while, feels much nicer this morning and that nasty wind has gone, I`m looking out at all the trees and they`re not moving at all. Friends joined us last minute for a later lunch and they just made in it before the heavens opened. Not much lightning, but plenty of torrential rain and thunder. The gardens will love it.

Enjoyed our Thai food last night and watched Insidious 1 & 2. Will watch the other tonight so we`ll have them fresh in our mind before we go to the cinema this week.....during the day when it is much quieter, I hate the cinema, well I hate annoying people in the cinema!!

Planning a day at home today, just the two of us I think, not expecting anyone and we have nothing to do so we`ll cosy up and watch some movies this afternoon I think. Might watch the Grand Prix but the British one is our least favourite, but we`ll see, if our least favourite driver is doing poorly we`ll watch.

Doing a roast chicken today for dinner, will make a honey mustard sauce or maybe a pepper sauce to go with that and even though it`s still quite hot, I might make some chicken noodle soup, I`ll definitely make stock from the carcass, our kitchen doesn`t get hot as we can open the doors wide if we need to. That would make a nice lunch tomorrow with some bread.

But, making some tea for my wonderful husband, then we`ll have breakfast later.....bacon and poached egg on a slice of toast, lush!!!

Hope keisha is having a blast on her cruise!!!! 🛳️

Have a wonderful Sunday!!

Funny have been to Boston, as in flew to Boston, long ago now, where I took some graduate classes, and roomed with a coworker from Boston, who showed me around. Not too far a drive to DC, and with a history buff older one, we’ve been twice. We stay near Crystal City, and take the tube in. Found a hotel that does not charge for parking. And the tube ride is not that bad. I still have my card from it. Will probably have to load more money on it if we go back sometime. Kids are saying maybe in the Fall.

Pool day I think. Sister said it’s been 89 to 90 degrees lately. Like bath water, and so nice on our stormy 80 degree the high day. Flood warnings and extreme weather warnings given today. Phone says rain chances from now, until 1 am tomorrow. Eh, as long as no lightning in area, pool time around lunchtime will be nice. And maybe some cookout too.

But this Sunday is one to relax. And that’s what three of us are doing. Older one works, and told DH, I think by around 10 this morning, okay to mow our grass. He’s hoping the rain holds off at least until after lunch. Grass does need a mowing. With our muggy warm days, with some light rain, our grass grows quick in summertime.

Thus a quiet house, and tea for me. I do like tea. Then made some waffles, as easy to pop in toaster if either kid wants to have a warmed one. I always make however many from the amount I mix up. Usually more than both DH and I can eat.

Good morning and happy Sunday.

Boston is also on my list of places to visit. My birthday falls on the same day as the anniversary of the tea party. There is a museum in Boston that lets the visitors participate in a reenactment. Kind of corny, but I still want to do it.

Not corny at all Charade, sounds like a lot of fun to do that.

Worfie lives in Boston, if we ever go I`d certainly take advice from her where to go, best to ask the experts.

Sitting out in garden for a time, it was too lovely to stay inside, it is hot!!!! Perfect afternoon just the two of us.

Our gardener is away on holiday so we`ll potter around and do a few bits while he is gone, although not much to do really and I think he prefers we don`t to be honest, we`re not the most competent of gardeners! Quite rubbish actually, but we have been instructed to put the sprinklers on several times, although after the downpour yesterday we don`t need to do it today for sure.

Going to make a tea tray and bring it back out here I think, made some lemon cake with buttercream icing, they`ll go nicely together.

Loving our lazy hazy Sunday....

Good Sunday Morning everyone

Me too. They do have a way of making you smile for sure.

I love bears, but only want to see them from a safe distance.
Seeing them in the Zoo is close enough for me.….LOL

Glad you had a lovely time with the little one and your niece, I love the name of the bear too, how cute. I have never been in any of the Build a Bear stores, it does look so cute though.
That might be the ultimate gift to bring back to Elise. You make a birth certificate with a name you created for your stuffed animal. There are so many choices to choose from. One of the new ones was a blue Stag which was Harry Potters Patronus.

But goodness me, scorpions! Sounds horrific and thankfully she survived, how scary though. And yes, I won`t wander into somewhere that doesn`t belong to me and if bears want the woods, they can have them!
LOL….yes I think I have finally learned my lessons with hiking into unknown territory.

Many years ago hubby and I decided to take a 3 mile hike in the Land between the Lakes in Kentucky. We had sailboats for years in Grand Rivers Kentucky and had never ventured to hike in there. We were on a trail that was popular with hikers and mountain bikers. I was walking along about a mile into the hike and I kept seeing these big holes in the ground. It did not take me long to figure out these were snake holes.

As I was walking I turned to my right and there was the largest King Snake I have ever seen coiled up and ready to strike. I took off running with every ounce of energy I had. Hubby was behind me just a little bit and he was laughing saying I have never seen you move so fast. That was until he saw the snake and he took off running past me. The last two miles of that hike was the longest ever. I was on guard for any more snakes. I never hiked in there again.

Lemon Cake sound so good.

It is a quiet Sunday here. Hubby is watching Rawhide an old western TV series with a young Clint Eastwood. He likes old western cowboy shows.

I’am going out into the yard for awhile today. I have a couple of projects I need to do. We did not get the additional predicted rain besides the down pour in the morning.

I did get out and get the birthday present I was looking for and a few Christmas presents yesterday. It was hot and muggy out and surprisingly there were a lot of people out shopping.

I stopped and cleaned and vacuumed my SUV which had been on my list of things to do. So another thing off the list completed.

Need to get moving if I’am going to get the outdoor things done.

Here is a picture of a Doe in our back yard that I have been giving shelled corn to. She has been coming to the big picture window in my kitchen looking in with begging eyes for corn. She is pretty tame. She lets me walk fairly close to her and put it down for her to eat.

IMG_6024.jpeg

Have wonderful Sunday everyone.

Yeah, no hiking for me either. One time hiking in the mountains, and heard a rattle, yep, like you Robo, hurried the other way. We have rattlesnakes in the mountains where I live. Not a mountain hiking fan either.

Hehe, heard some odd sounding thunder, got warning from phone lightning in area and to take cover, but then within a few minutes and when not heard, DH started mowing. Good he waited, and doing it before another pop up storm cloud comes along. After he cleans up, hoping pool still so warm. Did run to store, to pick up some sides for lunch. Had the AC on. Was so muggy and gray looking out,

Robo, good to hear from you. Hope DH is doing well. Nice to get gift shopping done. Pretty picture of the doe. Sweet to give corn cobs to the deer.

Ooh older one left about an hour ago, and did eat a waffle. Little one is up, and was glad to see two waffles left for her. I decided to make some iced cofffe. Little one will drink it, and after a hot weather mowing, DH will drink it too. I like to put cream in mine. I use a darker, stronger coffee when icing it.

Good Sunday Morning everyone

Have wonderful Sunday everyone.

What a beautiful creature! And how lovely it feels comfortable for you to get fairly close. We have some wild deer around us, they`re tame but will move away if they even think you`re going to come close, except one of them, I posted a pic a few months back, we know her as she has some very unusual markings. But they don`t venture near us often like the one in your picture.

lol.....I can imagine you running from the snake!!! It`s amazing how we can run if we have to!! Yes, we don`t belong in their territory!!

I will look in BaB stores for her, I know she has a couple from her mother, but to have one from Orlando from us, she`d love that. I like that idea.

Hope you had a lovely day, quiet Sundays are ideal aren`t they.

We did have a lovely quiet Sunday as planned, sat in the garden, ate dinner outside and it was so still....weirdly still. I swear I walked in the house and it changed instantly, cloud darkened and the wind started billowing, then yep, thunder and lightning with massive downpours, quite impressive. I was glad we had come in.

Almost 9.30 and cloud is very dark again, I think we may get more rain through the night, but tomorrow morning has to be warm and sunny so we`ll get out a walk as usual. I sound like a bloomin weather forecaster......dull!

Early night for us tonight!

Only a partly lazy day today. I did not get a good night's sleep last night. I stayed up until just after 1:00 to finish the book I was reading. (Okay, that part is all my fault.) Fell asleep almost immediately but woke up at 2:00 to the sound of the cat vomiting. I cleaned that up, but didn't get back to sleep until after 3:00. Woke up again sometime around 5:30 when dh got up to feed the cat. Eventually went back to sleep and then finally got up around 10:00.

After lunch I was starting to doze off again, so I went downstairs and had a 30 minute workout on my seated elliptical. In a little while I will go back downstairs or a 30 minute workout with the weighted hula hoop.

I have made our hotel reservations for DC. We have been there a few times before. We have a favorite hotel in Vienna, VA that we like to stay at. Parking is free (or at least it was the last time we stayed there) and it is a very short walk to the metro station.

You won't find me doing traditional camping either. I am not fond of dirt, bugs and other creatures. I also want a place that is climate controlled with indoor plumbing.

Sweet doe, Robo. We occasionally get them at the very back of our backyard, but so far they have not come close to the house.

Time to go work with my hoop. I am watching old Remington Steele episodes as I work out.

All I can say is little one is a very good driver. Even the fastest windshield wipers were a match for the amount of rain falling. Roads flooded with large pools of water. Good thing not too many on the roads. Saw two cars with flashers on, not moving and blocking a lane. Yeah, water into your engine is not a good thing.

Trash is at the curb, and alarm set.

Time to relax. And good we hear our sub pump working. No need to have rain stay in our crawl space.

Hope all have a good night sleep, particularly Charade. Sorry to hear cat was not feeling well. Ick to clean up that.

Now I remember there’s a reason I go get my nails done! :scared: I decided to throw some polish on tonight myself. Had to take off polish for surgery sooooo, what was I thinking. It’s pretty messy.

I think I tried to do too much last week. Had a quiet weekend. Long nap today. I think I heard it takes awhile for anesthesia to leave the body. I sure have been tired.

Tomorrow husband has doctor appt for test results. Maybe we’ll get some answers.
Then daughter has dentist appt after work. I told her I’d drop her off as I have to go to the mall across the street anyway to get birthday cards.

@schumigirl glad you’re enjoying new tea set. A good friends birthday is coming up so our group of neighbourhood friends are taking her to high tea. I used to love going for tea particularly the place we’re going. But with diabetes I can no longer indulge so I’ll be ordering something of the menu and try not to sulk! I will have a pot of tea though.

@Lynne G thanks for the explanation! I’ve been during Passholder Days, just not the special event. I’m really looking forward to it!

@schumigirl wow sounds like a good storm on the way. We could use a torrential Florida type drenching it’s so dry here.
I love poached eggs! Last week my daughter came over to spoil me, and made Eggs Benny. First 2 tries the sauce broke, 3rd time was the charm! Needless to say I had lots of egg white omelettes and the dogs got some scrambled. Good thing we had lots of eggs on hand.

@Robo56 I’m looking forward to the new Minions area and quick service. People are giving it good reviews. Although I loved Monsters Cafe and Shrek!
I’m feeling better and this weekend showed me I think I can do more than I can and paid for it. The weekend rest did me good!
Yikes that’s a scary scorpion story.

@macraven cute about your boys and minions! One of my daughters disappeared in a flash in the department store. Almost had a heart attack found her inside clothes rack!

@Charade67 Lazy days are good! Sometimes our body just needs that! Glad no cold yet. Seems this year there’s a lot of bears here. Was watching a video someone sent into the news today of 2 young adult bears playing and rolling in the grass in our town. Adorable.

@Lynne G a pool day sounds perfect! I’m bringing my float to Universal lol! Driving in bad rain storm is so scary! I’ve been stuck on I-95 in Florida in one of their downpours. Awful.

@Robo56 what a beautiful photo of the doe.

I do enjoy hearing about all the storms back east! Even a touch envious! I love sitting inside our hotel room in Florida looking out at the storms, lightening and hearing the thunder roll. It’s rare we get any dramatic storms here.

Well it’s Dead night and Outlander for me on TV tonight! Have a good night all.

I used to enjoy watching Remington Steele many moons ago, always enjoyed Doris Roberts in it.

Another gorgeous morning here, our walk along the shorefront was beautiful, sun was high and the water was crystal clear and a very unusual colour of blue, but very pretty. It`s going to rain later this evening so making the most of the day, lunch will be alfresco for sure. Baked some onion bread and will have that with my home made chicken noodle soup with extra chives from the garden.

Dinner tonight will be hot and spicy bbq pork steaks, will cook them outside unless the rain has started by then, making some potato salad and sald to go with them.

This afternoon is a do nothing one for us, we`ll finish off the lemon cake for afternoon tea, I do need to stop baking!! But, the farmer is always dropping us off 30 eggs almost weekly, we don`t eat that many eggs, so baking is ideal to use them up. Will take a load up to Scotland this weekend, mum will love those fresh from the farm eggs.

Time to bring my washing in, hung it out before we walked, it was dry as a bone in no time.

Happy Monday!!

Sue, certainly take your time recovering. My, it hasn’t been that long ago you had surgery. Take care, and relax most days. And enjoy pampering yourself with a professional nail polish. And yes, will be fun to have a night with Passholders. Of all the fun we had on the ones we went to, I never spun so much on MIB the one time went that night. Someone or more than one, in the other car, had very good aim. But we had good characters interaction, with little one having got at least a 15 minutes dancing time with Vector as the DJ played. Not many were around that character, as we were walking out. So he came out and grabbed her, as we came into the DJ area. And, one of her favorite shots, was she got a picture with two agents and the pug in front of the MIB sign. And in 2019, it was a beautiful night, and took this picture:

Ah after a rain filled day, yesterday, we did get a dip in the pool until we heard thunder. And in between the heavy rain, cooked our burgers and hotdogs. We did, eat inside, because the heavy rain didn’t stop even after we got home.

But this morning is pretty. The rain is gone until the end of this week, so after a mostly cloudy morning, that glorious clear sky, we will have. Thank you high weather system to set up to give us full sunny weather later today, and giving us wall to wall sunny days the next so days. Hotter too, in the low 90’s the next two days. With the cloudy start, 84 the high today. Then the high moves off and the low from the South brings rainy weather Thursday, Friday and both days of the weekend. Oh well. In the past, we have had rainy summers. Though not lately. So okay we get the rain, as all that green is so nice to see. Oh and seeing, when we first got into sister’s house, we saw the humming bird enjoying her small tubular purple flowered plant hanging outside her one window. He ate for a good few minutes, then very quickly zipped out of sight.

But back to that week day routine. And up still before the sun. But at least warm weather, and my AC is making it just perfect as not humid air and almost too cool. We do like it cooler when we sleep. Ooh tea. Yep, hot tea for me most of the time. Particularly in the early mornings I have.

A most Marvelous Monday to all.

And a last note, a woot for Charade, for booking the DC hotel.

I blinked...and the weekend was over!

It was a hot wonderful weekend! Saturday - the boys and dh went fly fishing and I just got to have a lazy day! I did a few things, but honestly, I enjoyed lots of down time as well. Tried a new meal that I seen since they didn't bring home any fish.

Yesterday was even hotter - and we all went fishing in the boat at the lake where our former lake lot is. It was the perfect way to spend the day - on the water. We all caught lots of fish. Sadly no keepers as we have size slots that the fish have to measure. I did catch a big northern pike - jackfish as we call them. We haven't seen on that size on that lake for at least 15+ years. It was a fun day.

Today is a bit cooler - but I feel the humidity today - for us. Our area is typically quite dry - like desert dry air. It is that perfect thunderstorm breeding day. Hopefully it holds off until I'm done my walk tonight.

Boston is also on my list of places to visit. My birthday falls on the same day as the anniversary of the tea party. There is a museum in Boston that lets the visitors participate in a reenactment. Kind of corny, but I still want to do it.
Boston is also on my bucket list as well! I think there are so many interesting US cities I would love to visit.
Yay...on the DC plans so far.
Sounds like a great way to spend a hot summer day!
Here is a picture of a Doe in our back yard that I have been giving shelled corn to. She has been coming to the big picture window in my kitchen looking in with begging eyes for corn. She is pretty tame. She lets me walk fairly close to her and put it down for her to eat.
She is BEAUIFUL!!!!! We have a few little herds that have adapted to city life. They will use our street to access the river/creek area that runs through our city I always look forward to seeing them walking down our street. They like to eat from the different berry and crabapple trees on our street.
I think I tried to do too much last week. Had a quiet weekend. Long nap today. I think I heard it takes awhile for anesthesia to leave the body. I sure have been tired.
I hope you didn't overdo it toooo much. I totally relate to the thinking I can do more - then regretting it later. Take it easy - and find a new binge worthy series to watch. I loved Sweet Magnolias, Outlander, Suits are a few that I love on Netflix. I hope you start feeling better soon! Even though I want to hop in my car and drive the 11-12 hrs to come help out and MAKE sure you take it easy!
Another gorgeous morning here, our walk along the shorefront was beautiful, sun was high and the water was crystal clear and a very unusual colour of blue, but very pretty. It`s going to rain later this evening so making the most of the day, lunch will be alfresco for sure. Baked some onion bread and will have that with my home made chicken noodle soup with extra chives from the garden
You live in an amazingly beautiful part of the world. I would love to be able to do my walks on the shorefront! I hope your dinner was amazing!

Well, I should find a few things to keep me busy!

Have a great day everyone!

A quick good evening post. Nothing interesting to report today. I had another terrible nights sleep. I fall asleep, get woken up less than an hour later, then can’t get back to sleep again.
Tomorrow husband has doctor appt for test results. Maybe we’ll get some answers.
Hope you got good answers today.

I used to enjoy watching Remington Steele many moons ago, always enjoyed Doris Roberts in it.
Yes, I liked her much better than Laura’s 2 original assistants.

And a last note, a woot for Charade, for booking the DC hotel.
Now we need to plan what we want to do. I wanted to go to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, but they are still not doing public tours.

Boston is also on my bucket list as well! I think there are so many interesting US cities I would love to visit.
Yay...on the DC plans so far.
There are several places I want to visit too. We have spent most of our time in the southeast. I need to see more of the rest of the country.

Hoping I will sleep better tonight. I have a feeling this will be me in the morning.

Oh Charade, I hope you find what’s bothering you as to not getting a good, restful sleep. I guess. I’m lucky, I tend to be able to go back to sleep after being woken up in the middle of the night. Yeah we usually go to one or two of the museums. Lots of walking even with using the metro. Sad to hear that tour not happening again. I think we did that the one time we were there. So much to see in the DC area.

Guess I was tired. Fell asleep watching some show I guess I was bored with in the early evening. Older one came by, to say hello. He got home a little later than usual, but guess he got some overtime.

Even with that little nap, I’m ready for bed.

Hope all have a good night, and think time for a taco dinner tomorrow.
