Something About Nothing............ #14

Very autumnal evening here, spooky moon and we still have some folks here who have coal fires, sometimes you can smell it up here, love it, brings back memories of playing out in the winter and everyone had their fires lit.

Dinner was lovely, very moreish, same tomorrow night as I doubled the amount, just need to add some more fresh veg.

It is cold at night now outside, popped out to the village to post a letter, very chilly!

TV and a cuppa I think now.

He was in surgery for almost 4 hours Wednesday morning. The surgeon had to pull his vertebrae back into place and then fuse and graft the bones to hold them in place. That is really a short simple explanation of the surgery.
Wow, that's a big one.
This is same neighborhood where the 85 year old lady was attacked by the big gator and killed last February.
Didn't realize that, what are the odds
Is he the only musical entertainment? I am not at all familiar with him.
Yes, he's corny hambone sort
One of my class members approached me after class and said she used castor oil to break up her floaters. Sounded a little quacky to me so I googled.
Haha the old timers used that nasty stuff on all sorts of things

my mom was spoon fed cod liver oil every night on recommendation of the company doctor. Said she'd never forget the horrible taste
I`ll stick to the old fashioned way and have my husband cook them for me the proper way 😉 he does them so well!!
lol
50s to 70s here for the next week. Orlando should be just a little warmer. Perfect weather finally.
It's been close to 90 & blazing sun since we've arrived. High humidity I assume from storm soaked ground. Only saw treelimbs on piles outside of Disney, otherwise would never know

DVC was oversold @ AKV. We were placed in a Savannah room. Ok by me, nice to have maid service daily.
Long Epcot day, switchfoot was excellent, really worked the crowd

Well….still have our ac on….Assuming weather will start to be cooler soon for us.

Nice!!!

Well, perfect is definitely subjective ::yes::

Oh I am so jealous!!!!

Glad you had such a good time at HoS!!! Now we wish we had gone, but we didn`t. Tom said if both of you had been there with us we`d have gone, we very much enjoyed that HoS we did together and agree, it is like HHN used to be. Heck even Mike Aiello said the very same thing according to one of his buds.

I do love that sign too lol.....

Sounds like a fabulous trip, but I`m curious, Disney don`t do daily housekeeping generally???? (and I don`t have a clue who switchfoot is)

Glad you`re having such a lovely trip!! I am looking forward to your views on HHN, we heard so many views from folks while we were there, interested in your views as a long term HHN guest.

98 the past few days…or something ridiculously non October-ish! But relief is headed this way tomorrow! (And none too soon…I need to get up in the attic and it has been WAY TOO HOT for WAY TO LONG!!!

I`m not jealous :rolleyes1

There has been a couple of glitches for me recently, mainly not getting notifications on certain threads.

Hope Pumpkin made it home safely and had a wonderful trip!!!

It`s going to be a little warmer here today, and not too bad the rest of the week, 58F today will do nicely, but winter clothes/coat/boots/scarves are all to the forefront. Washed all my scarves yesterday so they`re all fresh after being boxed away since April this year.

Most of my nails that had grown so nicely in Florida have now gone back to my normal length again, I don`t ever get my nails done, just a quick file now and again, but they look so much nicer when I have sunshine every day.

On my second cuppa, sleeping beauty is still asleep, it`s not light yet, but starting to now, sunrise is 7.20am for us and sunset 6pm, days are getting shorter for daylight. I think we`re heading out for a time today, just really to get some fresh air more than anything and pop in for some fresh veg. Sad to see in the next town to us one of the cafe`s has closed due to rising costs, mainly utilities, nice couple who had it and food was always nice, shame to see another place close down.

French toast this morning for me, little later though, no rush to do anything today!

Have a lovely Tuesday!!

Was supposed to be aquatica this am & mnsshp later. The Mr still snoozing, looks like we will hang at pool Works for me

88 today, tomorrow 74. I'm good with it as at home: 50 & 48 as high with rain, unseasonably low. Although we've had snow covering Halloween decorations in past

Disney don`t do daily housekeeping generally???? (and I don`t have a clue who switchfoot is)
Not DVC, the famous "welcome home" includes picking up after yourself until the morning if the 4th day after arrival.

If you require clean towels sooner, you can pay extra for that option. I'm not above repurposing Pool towels :rolleyes1

There's even a sweeper in the closet I refuse to touch

They do come round each day for trash/room check

interested in your views as a long term HHN guest.
I'm full of opinions, not shy to share 'em lol
Hope Pumpkin made it home safely and had a wonderful trip!!!
Same, was an adventure for them I'm sure! Assume their first storm go 'round here

Had never thot of utilities causing that. Many do run on such a slim margin. A shame.

Odd thing here, eggs in grocery tripled in price mid August & stayed there. Noticed right before we left they dropped down to approx a dollar more than usual. No idea the cause. Any excuse will do here it seems.

Have a good day all!

Robbie, glad to hear your husband and granddaughter are both on the mend!! Continued good wishes for them both. Your husband will be so glad to be home having you taking care of him and yes, you`ll know he`s getting proper food. Such a shame when you hear of hospitals that don`t serve decent wholesome food.
Thank you Carole. Hubby is getting around better the last couple of days. Progress for sure.

The Nurses who were caring for Hubby said to make sure to give a comment on the food when we received our survey. She said the food has been terrible since the present food company has been there. A lot of hospitals are out sourcing their food service.

And glad your sister didn`t have too much damage to her home, and of course hope yours is the same too.
Thank you. My sister has picked a roofing company to repair her roof. Just waiting on the insurance to approve it so the work can be started.

I did get some bubbly in lieu of gifts, so not too bad at all!!! :-)
Sounds like a good exchange.

Great news for both. Prayers for a good recovery.
Thank you Charade. I hope your eye is improving.

Lunch is going to be butternut squash soup I made before we left, garlic and rosemary are prominent for sure, bakery bought bread today for a change and I have chicken thighs and veg cooking in a honey mustard sauce in the slow cooker for tonight, another simple winter warming dish despite it being very autumn like today, and it`s full of flavour.
I have been roasting butternut squash as a side with meals. Never have had any left over to make soup yet. Your soup sounds good.

DVC was oversold @ AKV. We were placed in a Savannah room. Ok by me, nice to have maid service daily.
Great to hear you were able to be accommodated and having daily maid service is nice.

I'd have purchased this sign if for sale
Yep, that sign would raise a few eyebrows for sure.

Howl o scream last night. Excellent! Reminded me of HHN before it got too slick
I have been thinking of attending HOS. My sister and I talked about it even this year. Might have to wonder over and check it out next year.

Long Epcot day, switchfoot was excellent, really worked the crowd
Is Switchfoot a band?

Love this your meme this morning Carole.

Up the sunrise this morning. Cool morning high today only supposed to be 57. Will have lower temps for 4 days then back up into the 70’s.

Hubby is moving better past couple of days. Taking him in to be fitted for his back brace this afternoon. Then a couple of small errands.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone.

Gas and electric costs here are extortionate now, they have jumped up massively with folks paying maybe 4 or 5 times more than they were paying before, so businesses are struggling too. Our local pub used to have a fake electric fire that was very impressive, but last winter they removed it as it was just too expensive to run. I don`t even want to know what we`re paying now for utilities!!

Day at the pool sounds good and enjoy that party tonight!!

Yes, I prefer an honest opinion rather than following the herd, and yep, share away once you`ve been!!

They leave a sweeper in the rooms?? Heck on a deck, nope....no housework on vacations!!

Have fun!!

Good Tuesday morning everyone :wave2:

It`s good to see progress for your husband, bless him, has to be tough getting back to normal again, but it is comforting for you to know you can look after his recovery with expertise. Yes, lots of hospitals here tender out food and sadly, it is usually the cheapest, although when mum was in for almost 3 weeks a couple of years ago, she raved about the food, said it was amazing but portions were too large, she does eat like a sparrow though, so I`m guessing it`s just your luck.

I buy large butternut squashes for soups, but I buy smaller ones for roasting if I`m making it as a side dish as Tom will eat the soup happily, but not as a side roasted, even if I coat it in garlic, herbs and spices.....funny guy!!! So just me for the side roasted squash! Never any leftovers here either.

You would love HoS!! It was so much better than HHN when we went, I think we`ll go back next year especially if we can make a trip with the keisha`s!! So much fun.

I did like that meme!!! We have friends that are going sky diving this weekend so it seemed apt somehow, hope the weather keeps nice or it`ll be cancelled....crazy people!!!

Hope the appointment went well today!

Second night chicken was beautiful!! Did some extra veg roasted off to go with it, lovely!!

Milder tonight at around 56F but tomorrow we are forecast almost 70F which will be just dandy as our gardener wants to do some prep for winter, not a clue what that means so will stay out of the way, I`ve learned that`s appreciated when it comes to gardening things!

Still watching Only Murders in the building, season 3 is not clicking as much as the first two seasons, but reviews say it`s gets back to the usual high standard later and next season is much better.

Think it`ll be an early night for us, both of us are yawning our heads off again....it`s barely 9.30pm!!

Already half way through the month!!! Yikes!!!

I lurk around here whenever I'm planning a Universal trip, but this time have to share my excitement with people who understand. I am honeymooning at Universal with someone who has never been to any theme park. And introducing him to the place where my now mostly adult kids and I escaped the stress of our real lives during some tough times.

I had perfect timing when checking for AP hotel rates and found RP club level for as cheap as I've ever paid for any room at RP. I've never stayed club level and am looking forward to breakfasts, desserts, and drinks (soda, beer, and water). Not dinners, because we are eating at all my favorites and some places that my kids wouldn't like (sushi!).

After five days of relaxed park touring and RP poolside chilling, we switch to Aventura for a couple days. Then one night at Disney for Star Wars because he is a Star Wars fan and I love him, lol. During the Aventura days, I will sometimes being going to the parks alone, which I am actually really looking forward to. The idea of having time to read a book in the parks with a nice treat sounds so indulgent. Especially when it's already cold here. If only I could bring a book through the Hagrid line.

Hello everyone. Nothing much going on here. Dh has a cold so tonight was homemade chicken noodle soup. I have never made chicken noodle soup before but dh loved it.

B is happy because she earned an A in her first graduate class.

With eyes, no I wouldn`t take a recommendation like that, I`ve never heard that one before.
I had never heard that either, but apparently it has gotten popular on ticktock.

50s to 70s here for the next week. Orlando should be just a little warmer. Perfect weather finally.
Sounds like my kind of weather. It was in the mid 50s here today, but is supposed to be back in the 70s later this week.

So DVC is quite different from a hotel stay? Is it the same as a time share or does it work differently?

Hubby is getting around better the last couple of days. Progress for sure.
Glad to hear he is making good progress.

Agree 100%.

How exciting! I hope he enjoys the parks just as much as you do. Congratulations on the upcoming marriage.

Quiet night here. I found a channel that shows the Carol Burnett Show. I’ll be laughing all evening.

Ah already at that mid week point with the holiday Monday. Woot! Short week. Hehe, three day one for me. Boo, all of these city commuting.

And who do I see?

IMG_3691.jpeg

Ah camel in the snow. Yeah, this morning it was cold enough to see some of that white stuff. Frost warnings given. Weather lady said feeling like November today. Yeah, a balmy 43 degrees when I got out the door. But a pep in my step, as means only one more day of this commuting in the ever more dark looking before dawn arrival time.

Hence, today is called Wednesday, where get over that hump of a day feeling, then Fabulous Friday feelings only a day more away.

You know, this week’s day ending week days’ day, will be a walk to that first train ride, for a weekend fun trip. Not sure we could leave my car overnight, now that they are daily charging for parking again. And since DH can’t drive, and older one will be out the door like I usually do for commuting, so walking it is. Little over a mile, but since I can be a slower walker, we are giving ourselves a half hour to stroll. At least it’s mostly downhill. And hopefully, with the last train ride back, older one should be able to pick us up. And yay, weather getting warmer as week ends.

Glad to hear Robo’s DH is now home, recovering. Happy to hear surgery went well.

Ack to eye issue Charade. Hope it resolves before your trip next month.

Wonderful Wednesday to all.

Welcome aboard Katie and glad to share in your excitement!!

Congratulations on your marriage and honeymoon coming up and I`m sure it`ll be a huge success!! Your future husband is in good hands with you planning the trip.

You sound like us in a way, we enjoy breakfast in the lounge and we have drinks at 5pm usually, but we never eat dinner in the lounge as we do like to eat out and about. In saying that, we did eat twice over our recent stay in the lounge for dinner, it is rare but we did enjoy it. The Club Lounge is lovely.

Orchids Sushi in RP is the best around, nowhere else serves sushi as good within UOR, there are a couple of nice places within 10 minutes that excel and one is Nagoya Sushi, we love it there.

Any questions, ask away :)

Home made chicken noodle soup is perfect for someone who is poorly! Hope he feels better soon and congratulations to your daughter, that is a wonderful grade to get!

Oh I`ve never seen anything on TikTok but yes, would avoid like the plague if someone suggested it!

Weather is not as bad as forecast today, warmer than expected but a little rain, so the gardener said he`d wait till tomorrow.

No plans to go out today, we did some housework this morning, not very exciting, one of our friends popped in for a cuppa as he was passing our area and now heading towards lunchtime. Butternut squash soup again and I baked some rosemary and garlic bread this morning, will go nicely together.

Dinner will be roasted cod loin, quite large pieces, will do some roasted veg and make a little lemon butter and chive sauce to go with it.

Hope @Pumpkin1172 is home safely and getting back to normality now and hope the keishas are having a blast too!!!

Tom is starting lunch, so soup and that gorgeous bread coming right up!!

Happy Wednesday whatever you`re doing 🙂

Welcome aboard Katie and glad to share in your excitement!!

Congratulations on your marriage and honeymoon coming up and I`m sure it`ll be a huge success!! Your future husband is in good hands with you planning the trip.
Thank you. Being in our late 40s, we want our wedding and honeymoon to be exactly as we want it, without worrying too much about what other people think. This honeymoon will be relaxing and fun. We are planning a big Mediterranean trip for next year.

My fiance said he trusts me to plan everything. 🙂 He is a big golf fan and I am not, so I was wondering if there's a convenient driving range or somewhere he can play 9 holes. We won't have a car but have experience using uber and lyft.

When I mentioned sushi in another group, Orchids was mentioned. I had forgotten it exists, because that's not somewhere my kids would want to eat. It reassures me that you recommend it too. We want a convenient and relatively quick but special dinner on our first night at RP. I can't handle much spice though, so I am looking for recommendations on what to order that will be safe for me. My favorite sushi has eel and avocado.

He's a big steak fan, but I warned him that I have not had a good steak at Universal and that he grills much better steaks. He grills ribeyes and filet mignon. I think we will focus on unique foods and atmospheres we can't get at home.

Sounds like a plan!!

We always have a car, but still use Uber and our experience has always been good there.

Not a golf fan, there is Top Golf down Universal Blvd, no idea if that would be his cup of tea or not for a driving range, but many enjoy it.

We`ve never found an excellent steak anywhere onsite except for The Palm and honestly, it`s not the same place it used to be since Landry`s took it over, but it`s the best option onsite. Citywalk is a big no no for us for steaks.

Orchids have plenty of options that aren`t spicy. Mexican, Volcano and Dynamite are the ones that spring to mind that are classed as spicy, but they`re not too bad. Cowfish has some of the worst sushi we have ever tried so I wouldn`t recommend that one at all since you like good sushi.

Orchids Tropical, Crab Rangoon and Caterpillar and sunset rolls sound like you`d enjoy them, but don`t forget to ask what the Chef`s special is, they are always excellent and I think the menu lets you know which dishes are classed as spicy.
