Something About Nothing............ #14

Morning all, going to be a real scorcher here. Need to pack, believe it or not, just book bags is messing with my methods. Will be interesting to see if we survive for three days with so very little in hand…said the confirmed over packer lol

I might refer to you as dj
Good idea, I had thot AJ. Guilty of shortening longish screen names…says the poster who has a doozie in honor of her late pet.

I actually stumbled across this message board (ahem, long ago) when I couldn’t sleep, as was mourning the lose of my beloved Keeshound, i.e. Keishashadow.
Hopefully yours will keep going too, sounds like it will after 30 years
Sssh, don’t let it hear you lol. I seem to recall my Mom possibly putting ash on her rose beds…maybe another plant. She was amazing with flowering plants. The sort who would propogate cuttings for all her friends & family. The mr really has a green thumb in his various vegetable gardens. Had the best Kohlrabi yesterday, we like them raw, sliced very thin & salted,
You leave tomorrow!!!! Fantastic, can`t wait to hear about it, not that I`m wishing your trip away of course lol.....you`ll have a blast!
Yes, tomorrow, very early, should be in SUV and heading toward WDW before 9 am tomorrow. Please, no delays (on that cheapo airline i swear to quit flying then see a rock bottom deal and am back in with gusto). Cannot help myself

I`m blaming Janet and Ruth for that thought....:rotfl:foxes are so much nicer to come across.
Haha I have never seen a fox around here. Surprised to see mink every now & then, they are hard to miss with that stunning coat.
Enjoy watching. Princess Catherine is a classy sweet young lady
She has a very special quality about her. Will be interesting to see how her life unfolds.
Janet hope you had a safe journey to Orlando
Not yet, i can smell it tho. Only a few more for you, will need a rest after the big party today!

We are just doing some steaks on the grill, bit later as the youngest DS has an afternoon tee time.
I was up early this morning to get all the roasts seasoned and in the crockpots. Everyone Is arriving at 1pm.
Nothing like a festive house!
And since I’ve also been at my work for more than 30 years, get 5 weeks vacation.
You’ve been traveling a lot. You must be stretching them well. Can you add onto those three day government holidays with a day or two = a nice long weekend or do you have to take a week at a time? Generally, do have to slave away here for 5 weeks.

Always annoyed me the “week” the mr got actually equated to 6 nights & he was usually scheduled to return for a quick midnight or daylight afterwards. Wrecked havoc on my planning, now
IMG_5503.jpegAnother meme I’ve wanted to post lol
He has the half marathon to run first
It’s a lifestyle! The mr is out doing 5 miles. I declined, fresh hair & all haha

My name is Tony but as I'm in recovery for a long time, junkie is almost an honorific. DJ does have a nice sound to it.

Well, hello Tony......yes we rarely use real names, but if DJ is ok with you, all good.

My soul mate is a confirmed over packer!!!! Love it, could never take less than even half I think I might need, dresses especially for evenings, very important.

I think our gardener mentioned ash in the soil for something or other, but nice your mister is a keen gardener, we`re just too lazy being honest!!! My brother George is an incredible gardener, so is the other brother now I think on it, just the girls who didn`t catch the bug!! Yes, so many friends ask if we want cuttings for something or other, have no clue!!! They do help themselves to cuttings from us all the time though!

You like kohlrabi???? Another I don`t like but have never tried lol.

Yes, foxes are beautiful, can be nasty but we have a few that are relatively tame-ish, we don`t encourage them, but wouldn`t harm them although the farms hate them, the ones with chickens anyway.

Mentioned that Netflix show you were watching to Tom, I think you and him are very similar trying to find shows for us to watch, and I`m always saying.....eh, not sure......lol but we are going to give it a try now. It`s the most miserable day, rain is bouncing down and heating is on...yes, middle of June!!! Cosy though with the throws and candles lit as it is dull enough out there!!!! Heck I`ll make anything romantic!!! ❤️

Will let you know what we think of it :)

Hope your mister enjoys how walk, yes, it`s a lifestyle, certainly is for Kyle with running, most of his friends are all runners too.....still not sure where he got it from, but least he`s being healthy!! Oh yes, not with new hair!!!

Don’t know why I didn’t post yesterday. It’s not like I was super busy with anything. Yesterday morning I had the transmission fluid in my car changed, and then I went to Sam’s club to buy toilet paper. That’s it. That was my day. Most of the rest of the day was spent cross stitching. Today will be an exciting day of laundry and bill paying.

Agree with you Charade, would never like to arrive late at night. Sadly, we have had delays that have put us at that midnight hour, and even later. I actually like those crack of dawn flights. You get there early, and have plenty time to take an afternoon nap, and enjoy a longer day.
I am not a morning person, so the 5 am flight will be tough for me, but I would rather leave early than take a later flight and get in super late. I rely on the airport shuttle and I think it stops running around 7 or 8.

I made some dauphinoise potatoes for tonight
I had to look that up. I don’t think I’ve ever had those.

my hair salon visit was 5 weeks ago. Time does fly by. Decided to cut almost 6 inches off.

I’m going to “try” to get my stylist to lop off more than last time. I’ve been wanting a lob to just hit my shoulders,
I’m trying to decide if I want a shorter haircut. I’m well overdue. I never schedule regular salon visits. I just have my hair cut whenever I feel it needs it.

I made bracelet’s for everyone. Here are a few I made. The colors are not well captured on the camera, but they are vibrant. I hope everyone likes them.

Very nice! You have been quite busy. I have received the bracelets my friend’s son made. Now I need to figure out what to do with them. I would wear some, but they are made for people with smaller wrists.

DH was at the stanley cup game last night. Yes - the paid a pretty penny for tickets. But it was a once in a lifetime chance. He works hard for his money - so I would never say that maybe it could be spent a little better. Even though we lost - he had a great time and loved the experience of being there on such a big game.
Sorry your team lost. I had to look up the Stanley cup since I don’t know who’s playing.

I said that Tuesday - and WHAM - Wednesday was a complete sh!t show in the unit that day. I jinxed us
Thursday is usually my frustrating day. Our clients know we are not open on Fridays and most know I leave at 3:00. Around 2:30 on Thursdays people will start calling to cancel their Monday appointment. I don’t have enough time to fill the appointments unless I stay late.

New ‘do & glasses came in today
Looks great.

Steaks and corn on grill? Yay!
Thanks for the reminder. We need to get some corn. I like it grilled on the cob, but not really a fan of it any other way.

Forgot the flower picture......

No idea what it is, but it`s gorgeous!!
Beautiful! I don’t have any flowers around my house. I have no luck with gardening.

I’am looking forward to looking around the Preview store and having a stroll through Dreamworks Land.
I am looking forward to seeing the Dreamworks area too. I think it will be really cute.

It’s 10:30 here and I seem to be the only one in the house who is awake. Looks like another lazy day. When B gets up I need to ask her if she remembered to get something for her father for tomorrow.

Good Saturday Morning fellow Disers:

I will try to catch up with you all over the past few days:

Keishashadow, I love the new hair do and glasses. You look great:) Did you have 6 inches cut off? It still looks long to me. I just finally got my hairdresser to cut off my hair like I wanted it. It comes to about 2 inches above my neck. If I was any good at putting pics on here, I would show you. But I can't seem to do it right, and my grandkids are too far away to ask, LOL.
Have a great trip to WDW tomorrow. I hope your "cheap" airline is on time. I've only flown on one once and it was right on time - not a bad flight at all.

AJ: Love your new nickname. I agree that junky was hard for me to get with! Welcome to the new AJ!
I see you went to Tn. for a while. I used to live in Tn. Did you venture out of the mountains at all? Tn. is a beautiful place and we loved it.

Robo, I love, Love your beautiful bracelets! and it's so thoughtful of you to give them away. Have a great time at Universal. I love to just wander around and look into the shops too. I could do that all day:)

Pumpkin: It sounds like you are going to have a nice time with family.
Fortunately, the bear did not come back to our yard, so we have filled the bird feeders again and can happily get out into the yard again. Our flowers aren't doing as good as last year. I think it's the cool, windy, rainy weather we have been having, or maybe it's the gardener (me, lol).

Charade: Great deer photos. We have so many deer in our area this year it can be a driving hazard. Cross-stitching is a great way to spend the day. I usually quilt or crochet. I love to read too - mostly suspense thrillers.

Hi Mac: Thanks for converting aj to AJ, LOL.

Carole: Being able to watch Trouping the Colour and seeing Princess Catherine is a wonderful thing. I have so much respect for both of those royals. Catherine is so beautiful, and seems to be a genuine caring person.

Loved your rose pictures. I haven't seen any that large before, so I think AJ is right that it is a cabbage rose?
I know you will enjoy your lunch with Kyle for Father's Day:) Our son and family and daughter and family will be over here tomorrow for Father's Day. It will be nice to have them all together at once again.

I have had a very busy week with the normal things, plus Spring cleaning, plus gardening. My Mother has had some heart problems with atrial fib. She refuses to go to the doctor. She says at her age of 96 she will just let nature take it's course. I spent most of yesterday with her after she had her rapid heart beat. She didn't tell me til later! She was just tired and wanted to rest but had no chest pain. I tried to get her to go to the hospital, but she refused. She has had this problem since I was a little girl. Her heart goes back into a normal after about an hour. I fixed her supper, cleaned up a bit, made sure she had fluids to drink and tried to get her to come home with me. But she refused and said she was more comfortable in her apartment. So, mentally and physically tired. I fell into bed last night and slept like a baby.

Today is great GS, Rowan's, birthday. He is entering the terrible twos, LOL. His Dad took him to his firehouse and he got to sit in the firetruck and hit the siren. They had donuts for him, and he was over the moon with the firetruck and donuts. Love him. We are all going together and getting him a nice swingset for his birthday.

I just finished a baby/toddler quilt top this AM. I've been working on it for a while, just doing a little big here and there. Now I need to do the backing and batting, quilting, and binding and it will be done. Hopefully for a little great granddaughter this November?

Have a wonderful weekend all,

ruth

lol….welcome to adult hood! Toilet paper and bills!

Yup, not a gardener here either, but I do love being surrounded by flowers where possible. I can honesty kill a cactus!

I’m sure she has something nice for her dad.

Isn’t it DJ, for drenalin junkie???……or did I miss another change! Long as we’re rid of junkie, all good!

You have very nice hair to begin with, but glad you got the cut too, we’ve been talking about it for so long. I’m over the moon with mine so short, and it’s not overly short, nice thing is everyone loves it.

Our gardener is on his holidays, so I can’t ask him, but cabbage rose sounds about right looking at it.

Yes, getting together is precious! And hope today is wonderful too and the little guy loves his swing set. And hope mum is ok, they are so independent at that age, but she does so well, I’m not surprised you slept like a rock after your day.

Your quilt sounds beautiful, you have a real talent for it.

Trooping the colour is wonderful and Catherine looked beautiful, they fill us with such pride in our country. Always get emotional watching the Red Arrows especially, many of us have family who have been or are still in the military, something I’m sure we’re all proud of.

Hope you sleep as well tonight.

The rain never really stopped today, but ended up having two friends over, we had some Indian takeout and then watched the new Omen movie which is a prequel to the 1976 Omen. It was quite good, especially through on the big screen. It’s not a movie room as such, but we call it that, we all enjoyed our evening anyway.

Food was good! Nice and spicy and plenty of it.

Not ready for bed yet, might stick on another movie or maybe just watch some tv. Hoping it’s nicer tomorrow to watch Kyle running, then looking forward to a nice lunch out for Father’s Day.

Oops…..seems my lovely husband has poured me a glass of red……well, it would be rude not to

Janet, just seen the Dobby meme, love it....for some reason it was missing when I read your post yesterday....yes, very appropriate!!! Every one of our friends who have now taken early retirement the way Tom did all say the same thing.....free!!!! Most of us get at least 6 weeks over here then stats and you can buy a week here and there if you like.

Some places, several we know of you get 7 weeks plus stats, and a day for your birthday which is almost unheard of today, the office Kyle works for do that, nice little perk and everyone is happy about it of course. We got 6 weeks vacation time as soon as we started working, yep, even all those years ago, one of the reasons I was so surprised when we started coming to America and folks were on so little vacation time!!

Have a safe journey today and have an absolute blast!!!!

Another change of plan today, that`s life isn`t it!! But, sun is shining this morning and looks beautiful out there although rain promised this afternoon....typical!

Although we`re being promised a scorching summer ahead.....lol.....will believe it when I see it!! It would be nice though as we do love spending time sitting in the garden when it`s nice and hot.

Sleeping beauty is still sound asleep, will go and disturb him soon, he tends to make our breakfasts which is lovely and he does it so well, his poached eggs are simply the best!

And he`s agreed not to go volunteer this week, well, I assume if they do really need someone he may go, but they seem to have enough folks at each place he goes this week, so time to sit on his backside for a change.

I have some charcuterie and cheeses laying around, that`ll do us for dinner tonight if we need it.

But, a nice and lazy Sunday ahead for us, plenty of tea throughout the day too, just had my second cup of the day.....perfect way to start the day.

Have a lovely Sunday and Happy Father`s day
to all the dad`s out there

Beautiful day here and warm!!! We have heat.

Then torrential rain and thunder for half an hour, then gorgeous sunshine again.

We went to lunch, then had a walk by the water before heading to Kyle`s where Tom got his other Father`s Day gifts, he felt very spoiled.

i-mWRMTm3-X2.jpg

Ducks and swans were out in force.

Back home and the sky looks like it could pour down again and the wind has got up, but very humid. And realised I left my reading glasses at Kyle`s home! So, no reading tonight.

Hope keisha and her mister are already having fun, I`m quite sure they will be!

Time for a cuppa and a slice of cake we took away from the restaurant, none of us had any room at the time. 🫖🍰

Oops, It is DJ. I just put the A in front of drenalin, LOL. DJ sounds much better anyway:)
Awaiting the arrival of Robin and Stephen and Randy and Jennifer and grandson Gary and Leo for Father's Day.
We are having Mom over for supper tonight. We are having roast beef, carrots, potatoes, home made bread, and chocolate cake. Yum. One of my favorite dinners. We usually have enough left over to make home made noodles the next day. I love making noodles. It seems calming for some reason, ie: making the dough and rolling it out and then cutting thin slices when it is almost dry.
It will be a busy day and lots of fun to be with the kids and Mom today.
Have a good rest of the weekend, Carole,

lol...it`s so easy to read things differently...I`m experiencing that right now with no glasses!!

Sounds like a lovely family meet up Ruth, everyone together will be so nice and dinner sounds lovely!

Have a lovely day, I`m sure your mum will love seeing everyone today and hope she`s doing much better again, they are a worry for sure.

Happy Sunday!! Florida is being bipolar again, half the state drowning🌧️ and the other half in drought☀️. Making a Pride cake for some young friends next Saturday. Rainbow Lemon layers, cream cheese frosting w glitter and a candy unicorn if I can find one. I'll put up a pic for sure.

Another lazy day. Dh is sound asleep as I type this. We went to church and then lunch at our favorite Italian restaurant. Dh half jokingly mentioned going to the most expensive streak restaurant in town. I reminded him that we probably needed a reservation and we were under dressed.
We ate way too much. He wanted tiramisu, but we couldn’t possibly eat any. It’s now sitting in our refrigerator.

I think we have convinced B to go to graduate school. Step 1 will be complete the application. I know she will get accepted into the program. This one will be completely online.

No plans for the rest of the day until the race tonight.

Just evacuated after long time on Tiana right before final drop. Gave us a redemption for later on it…um

er, curious minds and all that.......

Without my glasses I thought they gave you a reception :rotfl:

Good news about your daughter Charade, that next step will be wonderful for her, then hopefully she`ll get an appropriate job after graduating and one she loves!!

We did the same today with desserts, just too full after such lovely meals to have any room for dessert, nice with a pot of tea when we had room.

Lazy days are so good!

More rain tonight, but still so humid.

Slouching along both sofa`s in the kitchen watching the rain out of the doors, no thunder and lightning tonight but might get some later once we`re in bed.

Might try to watch some tv for a while as without glasses I can`t really see very well, hoping for no typos!

Good Monday morning....😍

Yup, it`s rainy, but at least it`s mild.

No school for me this morning and Tom is not going volunteering for any of his places this week, that last minute call is still possible of course, but a free week is nice!! Have a few places to drop into today, butcher, baker and candlestick maker type of stores and farm shop for veg. Wasn`t overly impressed with the surprise veg box we got from them, it was ok, but too many starchy veg options. Would get it again though.

We like this veg place more than others, although one of the women is odd when she talks to you, she rambles.....making no sense most of the time as she doesn`t listen to anyone, we avoid her like the plague, but everyone else is lovely there.

Will make a salon appointment for hopefully one day this week, just the roots touch up till next full head of highlights, conditioning treatment and small cut, will get a wax while I`m there too, going out Saturday night so, nice timing.

Had toast with preserves for breakfast, simple and quick with a large pot of tea as always on the table, going to do open Texas Toast style shrimp sandwiches for lunch and I have some chicken breasts I`m going to jazz them up with Cajun spices, make some coleslaw and Caesar Salad.

If it clears up we`ll head out a walk this afternoon too, surely we can`t get much more rain, longest day on Friday, it`ll probably rain then too 🥴

Have a wonderful Monday 😁

Not much happening for me today.
Took a long nap today and hope I will be able to sleep before midnight.

Mid 90’s in my area today but no issue for me as ac works fine.
We won’t get higher than 97 this week.
No rain in our forecast this week.

Hope all the homies are doing fine!

Not too much going on around here either. Work was pretty average. Then I went home and helped B complete the FAFSA. She submitted her application for grad school. Now we just wait for the acceptance.
