I am considering paying full price for the Yacht Club for my trip over Memorial Day weekend! The AP rate came out for the end of May and it looks like it's only available on for the last night of my trip (5/26).

I have a great rate $195 including tax for a standard room at the Dolphin. But I can't stop thinking about how great the Yacht Club would be. Haven't been there in 3 years and my DD16 has never stayed there.

Can someone talk some sense into me....I am longing to give Disney an extra $900!

It depends how much of an issue the money is to you.
My DS 18 has just let us know that he's done with WDW...Your son's getting older, there's a chance this might not be a repeatable trip. So I'd say, go for it if the money isn't too dear. :thumbsup2

While I love the Yacht and Beach club both, I'm not so sure that it would be worth that much extra, especially this close to the trip. The location of the Dolphin is equally convenient, and your transportation options are the same. While the Dolphin is not technically Disney, as soon as you step out the doors and see Spaceship Earth and World Showcase in the distance, those issues will go right away:thumbsup2

I agree, if money is no option i'd say go for it. But $900 is alot and the location is primarily the same, as well as transportation.

My kids want to stay at the Beach Club but I have a 40% code for AKL and I'd have to pay rack rate for Beach Club. The price difference would be $2767.50 because we have to have 2 rooms. I had to ask myself if SAB was worth that much money to me and obviously the answer was no....Is it worth $900 to you? Is that $900 needed for anything else? It's nice to dream though......

<<<<<Heres some sense!!!!Save the 900.00 bucks!!!!Slurge on a nice meal,a nice souvenir for her and remember at 16, college and the tuition bills are right around the corner!!!

Financially I think the choice is up to you but while the location is the same here is some things to keep in mind with staying at the S&D vs. yacht club that maybe you know but could see why staying at YC would be the better decision.

The S&D charge resort fees, they charge for parking (if you have a rental car or are driving your own ), as a guest of the S&D you aren't eligbile for DME and you can't charge back to the room for purchases in the theme parks or at DTD like you could at the YC.

But the location is pretty much the same and the rooms at the S&D are very nice. It would be whether or not the extra charges, the lack of charging priviledges, and if you need DME are important.

Good Luck but if it were me I'd switch to the YC.

Can't justify it. This is coming from someone who has NEVER paid full rack rate. If I don't have some type of discount..we don't go. What about at least an AAA discount? Have you looked into that? Then again, if money isn't an issue..go for it. We all have different priorities. What might not be worth it to me, would be to someone else. Only you really know the answer to that.

I have to agree, unless you think you will get a lot of use out of SAB.

Also, not being able to charge to the room would annoy me. I'm used to carrying the KTTW cards and nothing else on trips!

There have been a few times I've paid rack rate for a short stay, because nothing was available at a discount, so I feel your pain. I think you have a couple options.

One, do a split stay, with most of the days at the Dolphin at the cheaper rate, and then the one night you can get at a discount at YC, you move to YC. You would get to enjoy the pool and amenities of YC, without breaking the bank.

Two, you do a split reservation at YC, getting the discount for the night you can, and paying rack for the other nights. You save a little bit, and get to enjoy the hotel you really want to stay in. Just make sure you book the same room type for both reservations, or you will probably have to switch rooms.

Of course, there's also option number three - just keep your reservation at the Dolphin and plan a trip to YC during a time when it's not so expensive.

If it were me, I would consider whether that 900.00 could be used for another Disney trip later, or if it was more important to make this trip a splurge. No one can answer that question but you. But it can really make or break a trip if you're staying in a hotel that you'd rather not be in, for whatever reason. I would also agree with the previous poster who mentioned all the additional fees the Dolphin charges. Make sure when you compare rates that you're including all the extras you will have to pay - otherwise you won't get an accurate comparison.

It's been my experience that at Disney, the deluxe hotels are NOT worth the extra money, except for the monorail and that's only fab for 2 parks. You're at the Dolphin. The rooms are as nice, the restaurants are better, and for $900, you could book 5 more days at the Dolphin.

Have you stayed at the dolphin before? It really is a great resort. I would totally save my $900. Well, most of it because I would drop a few hundred at the Mandera spa. Now that is FABULOUS!

I would pay $900 extra to stay at the YC over the Dolphin. As long as you can afford to do so. SAB is worth it. But if money is an issue I think the Dolphin is great too. ;)

If money is no object, then I would say go for the Yacht Club. $900 does seem like a lot though, thus I would choose the Dolphin if it were my vacation.

I would stay at the Dolphin since it's the same location. You can always have dinner or something at the Yacht & Beach Club. You don't have to stay there to enjoy the ambience of the resort.

OTHO, the IRS is actually giving away $$$ as part of the economic initative-perhaps you could use that money to stay at the Yacht & Beach Club.

Stay with the Dolphin. We also love the YC but it is not worth the prices that they currently charge IMHO. The S/D for around $200 a night plus tax and fees is a very reasonable rate for a deluxe resort. The prices that the Disney Deluxe resorts are currently charging are over the top IMO and they only way we will see them come back a little is if people stop booking the rooms at the inflated prices.
