I just got home from more garden centers. This hobby is getting expensive! :o

What I got this time was a rectangular planter, a little more soil, 2 yellow and green leafed hostas, two blue-green leafed things that are unlabled but I think are also hostas just of a different variation, 2 petunias (purple and hot pink, both of "the wave" variety), a blue thing that looked good in the petunias (looks like a little fan), a little 6" red riding hood mandivallia (sp?), and a different mandivallia about 12" tall that's just at the right size to start training to climb. I forget what that one is, and I'm too tired to go out on the porch to find out ;) Oh, and don't forget the shepherd's hook and hanging basket...

I think I overdid it tonight. :o If it works, though, this'll be very pretty...

Sounds like you had fun at the garden center... My wife is starting to think they are not such a good place for me to go anymore... :D

Well, I did an oops.

I forgot to measure the shepherd's hook compared to the pot I intended to plant it in.

It not fit. :( So now I have to figure out how to rectify that situation... My mandivalla (sp?) has nothing to climb, and my hanging pot of petunias and that other thing that starts with an s that is purply-blue has nothing to hang from...

Rajah you are too funny, sounds like you've got the garden bug.

Any time you feel like working out in the yard, hop on a plane, I could use an extra hand. :)

DH doesn't let me out of his sight when visiting nurseries, they sure are my weakness.

Mamu's right Rajah, sounds like that bug bit you bad!!! :) :)

Let us know what solutions you come up with. :)

* mandevilla - had to check my own spelling three times on that one!

Kim :)

 Rajah, you sound like me! :D I went to the nursery this weekend to get some potting soil and came home with a car full of plants and pots. :D I have to go back there this weekend. I can't go in a nursery, record store or book store either. :D

I don't know where you are in Texas but Mandevilla, especially Alice DuPont's do very well here. I have the best luck putting them in almost full sun. They will bloom all the way through Fall.
You might also want to consider Bouganvilla if you have a real sunny spot. We dig ours up every year and store in the makeshift greenhouse my Husband made and ready made garden the next year.
I don't plan to have clean fingernails until June!

Rajah is gonna have to get a bigger porch!!!

Your excitement is contagious!

I'm in the Houston area, and that's the name of the other Mandevilla I got! It lost its one bloom this morning, but I didn't expect individual blooms on that one to last very long.

My dad also said he can save my "oops" situation. He said bring him the shepherd's hook and he'll fix it right up for me, and even help me set it up in the pot so it won't fall over. So this weekend sometime I should have my shepherd's hook all set up! :D

I really like the green and yellow green mix of those hostas. I wasn't sure I'd like that yellow green when I first saw it, but it's really growing on me. :) I wouldn't like it as much if the whole pot were nothing but yellow-green, but mixed with the solid-green whatever-they-are's it looks nice.

I am *really* having fun with this, and just shocked at how well everything's doing. I usually have a black thumb but I haven't lost a single plant yet out on that porch!
