I guess it didn't take me too long to learn to sew.... I started at the end of April / beginning of May.... I haven't posted the first outfit I made for the trip yet, I will tell you all which one it was when I get to it. The 2nd outfit I made is coming up soon. Then I continued to make like 25 for the trip between May and Aug. I had never touched a sewing machine, and couldn't sew a button on earlier this year, so I was proud of myself. I owe most of my ability to the Disboutiquers, I never would have figured it out if it weren't for them.
Most of my fabric came from Joanns, Hancock, and Hobby Lobby. I did get a few fabrics from ebay or a fabric co-op.
My appliques came from 2 places (I did make like 1 of them by hand, but the rest were machine appliques) StitchonTime.com and on Etsy (search seller HeatherSue). HeatherSue is a another DISer, and her designs are awesome and easy to do!
Plain ribbon came from Hobby Lobby and Michaels, Disney ribbon came from ebay and a ribbon co-op I joined.
Oh and you didn't ask, but it is a big reason I was able to learn to sew... the patterns came from YouCanMakeThis.com. My favorite pattern designer is Carla C, she really knows how to explain everything and show how to do everything in pictures, that anyone could sew with her patterns.
I really am so glad I learned to sew, Taylor just LOVED her outfits and she got so much special attention in them.
I'm just quoting this for my own reference.
I was showing my DD13 the outfits...and she wants me to make her the one that Aunt Momo wore in AK.![]()
It's such a fun outfit! I'd love to see pictures after you make it! Just FYI.... if you have a Hobby Lobby I saw the various color zebra prints there again the other day, I had a hard time finding anything besides black and white zebra when I first started looking.
No Hobby Lobby. I only have Joann's to shop at. Well, that and online.
But our Joann's is HUGE, and we've never had a problem finding what we want there.
Do you remember where you found that pattern? I was looking around on the YCMT website and saw a couple that might have been that one. But I'm not sure.
I haven't sewn anything in quite a few years...you inspired me to pick it up again. If you can do all of that in less than a year...I'm sure I can make a few skirts![]()
Actually that skirt was one of the few things I didn't use a YCMT pattern for, instead I used this free tutorial:

This was actually written by Leslie, another Diser from the Disboutiquers thread, it was one of the first things I made and very easy to follow her directions....plus it is a free pattern!
