Somehow, The Marathon Returned - comments welcome!

Sigh. One minute away from a PR. I was on pace to smash it for the first 8 miles, and then the wheels fell off. I finished with the same overall pace as my half PR, but went about .12 longer, so no PR. It was soooo hot and humid. At least the sun wasn’t out, or I would have suffered even more. I wish I would have started with the 2:45 pace group, but alas -I learned I can’t run more than 30/30 intervals when the temp is over 70 degrees!

Fantastic effort! You were so close! Some of those photos look like you were definitely suffering in the heat. I wouldn't even think of trying to PR that long of a race at that temperature.

I really shouldn’t have tried! My PR race was at least 10 degrees cooler throughout, and was our first big cooldown of the year so after training in the heat, my body was ready to go fast. Meanwhile, it was about 10 degrees hotter than it has been in the mornings during today’s race, so I’ve pretty much lost all my heat acclimation.

I’m trying to convince myself that my fitness must have improved a bunch to get me that close to a PR in adverse conditions. :P

But also, my knee started hurting again near the end of this race and it’s still sore now, so I’m really hoping I didn’t mess it up somehow. :(
