"Mom...I think I saw, umm.., I don't know,...like, blood or something in my pee."

Ugh! What a day. Back and forth to doctors and more phone calls than I care for. Yes, he does have blood. (gross blood +3) No protein, no WBCs, nothing else. No pain, no trauma that we know of. They did some blood work (poor guy! ) and we get test results tomorrow. It feels good to be home, but then you have time to sit and think about it and worry. Most likely it is nothing. Cross your fingers.

and we are supposed to leave for our trip in 6 days..........

any thoughts appreciated, especially if you've been through this with your 8 year old, too.

Hope things turn out well - I'm sure they will. DD used to get urinary tract infections frequently when she was small, and sometimes blood in the urine was the first sign. Those were easily cleared by antibiotics. Let's hope you have a simple solution too.

I had this a while back and it turned out to be a burst blood vessel in my bladder. I do quite a bit of running and it was caused by that. It's quite common, there's even a medical name for it and it's harmless. Was he doing anything strenuous that might have caused something like that?

Hope he's OK, I'm sure he will be.

Update: the blood test results were normal so far. That is very reassuring! We took in another sample today so I'm still waiting on the pediatrician's call. I imagine they will want to test him for a few days. If it doen't clear then I expect they will start out with an X-ray....but at least we know his kidneys are functioning o.k. at this point. Thanks for your kind words!
