We are at the point of seriously considering this. Even my previously unmagical dh is getting ready to jump on the DVC bandwagon!! My question is....how hard is it to do a big WDW trip every other year, with banking/borrowing points from other years? We would want to travel to WDW every other year and maybe travel to a different location in between. How doable is this? Any suggestions for a possible owner??

When you say "How hard is it?" - are you meaning the difficulty of the reservation and banking/borrowing process?...

Well... that's a cinch.

But, do you actually mean, "How hard will it be to LIMIT yourself to a trip every other year?" - that's going to be the difficult part! Once you get a taste of the wonderful resorts - you'll find yourself saying, "Well.. maybe we could just take a long weekend for Food & Wine Festival..," or, "Maybe we could go down for a few nights to see the Christmas lights this year..."

It becomes very addictive. I believe it will take a lot of self-discipline to go every other year, but the reservation-process, itself, is easy...

HTH.

I guess I'm not sure if the option to borrow/bank points is always an option. I know, I should probably just ask my guide but figured she might not be as up front, so to speak, as you all would be. If I bought 150 pts. (about what my budget will permit now) could I bank/borrow pts. from a different year and have 300 pts for an every other year trip? Does this make sense? And yep. I think it's going to be very addictive. I have no problem doing WDW every year. But right now, I'm telling dh that 'sure, we could go different places with this plan too.'

What you suggest is very do-able...it is what a lot of members do. With banking and borrowing, the program is very flexible.

If, in the future, you decided you would like to go to WDW every year, points can be added to accomplish this.

In the meantime, banking and borrowing to increase your buying (or reservation) power is very easy to do. MS can take care of this for you.

Remember, it is a three year deal. If you bank year 1 points and use year 1 and year 2 points, you then are staring from scratch in year three with only year three points. Not a problem if you only go every other year and you don't start borrowing from the next year's points. Once you start to borrow, then you start to limit yourself.

Then you'll want to add points or have to skip two years in a row.

I figure that we need about 2,650 points to really make our lives happy. Only 2,400 points to go!

Your plan sounds perfect and many people do it this way. 300 points EOY will give you a 1 BR for a full week most times of the year or a 2 BR for 5 - 7 nights for much of the year. It will not be enough for Xmas or Easter for weekends but should be workable all other times. I assume you're planning on using cash for off times at non Disney options. DVC is not reasonable to buy for non DVC options and 150 points will not be enough to use them every year with part of those choices being for options other than DVC.

Technically they could suspect banking and borrowing but other than he last few years of the contract, I doubt that's at all likely.
