Hi there... I hope someone can help me. My boyfriend and I are going to WDW next year. When it comes to rides, I am kind of a sissy. So here are my questions... How bad is Big Thunder Mountain? Are there any big drops? It looks like fun, but I get nervous. On Kali River Rapids, is the drop bad there? I can't remember, it's been awhile. And is Soarin' a sissy ride? Please help! Thanks!!

Big Thunder Mountain is quite tame in my opinion. Not very fast, and you can always see where you're going.

The drop on Kali also isn't bad... as far as drops go. However, it has the potential to absolutely soak you from head to toe water wise.

Soarin' is very cool.. wouldn't call it "sissy". Someone really afraid of heights might get a bit scared (you're seat belted in and raised up in the air, legs dangling).

The only ride I know about that may be remotely scary at all of the dis parks is the Hollywood Tower of Terror in MGM, I can't think of a single ride at the Magic Kingdom (MK) that is scary, the coasters there are tame by 2006 comparisons. Same with Universal too except for their coasters and the Doom Drop all at Islands of ADventure (IOA) all you need avoid. The Aerosmith rockin roller coaster at MGM is also tame, it does not go upside down, not really any drops its just fast and smooth, if you can handle fast rides you'll be ok. I'm saying this as someone that doesn't get scared but does not like getting sick by any ride and some of them do make me sick. That's why I don't ride Doom, although I have ridden the TOT several times, it does get me a little sick. That one would probably be too scary for you, but that's about it. Others may disagree with me but that is my opinion.

4 year old son loves kali river rapids
when we go to disney in 16 days, he will go on BTMT it is a tame ride
no drops or sudden turns. a little bumpy but its fun!

and if u dont like big drops avoid expedition everest and splash mountain

"The Aerosmith rockin roller coaster at MGM is also tame, it does not go upside down, "

Rockin Rollercoaster has 3 inversions, so yes it does go upside down.

in soarin u are 40 ft in the air but u dont notice cause u cant look down. the screen is right in front of u and it seems like u are really there ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo
dont miss it!

yah rockin roller coaster goes through 3 upside down parts all at one time :)

Big Thunder Mountain doesn't have big drops like say Splash Mountain. I don't know exactly how big they are but I would guess maybe ten to fifteen feet, if that. It is over before you know it. FYI, if you go in the morning the track isn't as warm and the ride goes a bit slower. It is fun! The ride does bank kinda of hard but not that bad.

Kali River Rapid is no biggie at all! At first I was terrified. The climb to the top of the first drop is worse than the actual drop. It is technically a drop of about 25ft. but it seems more like ten at most. It is a ride that I have never seen a single sole scream in terror. It is very mild. You will get soaked though,so you will need to be prepared for that.

Soarin', I have heard that some people are terrified of it and others love it. If you have an adversion to heights-just skip this.

If you don't feel like riding a ride just going through the line and then say "I've changed my mind" and exit. Too many people try to be brave on rides and end up getting sick or worse.

You should be OK on Thunder Mountian, Test Track, and Kali. Only people who are extremely afraid of heights should avoid Soarin. My mom is afraid of heights, and I was concerned for her. We asked the CM before boarding if he could put us in the lowest row of seats, he did, and my mom really loved the ride!

Splash mountian is a really enjoyable ride, yes the drop is bad, but the ride is so nice. My mom loves splash, the first ride is the worst because you don't know when the drop is coming. After you get over your first ride it's smooth sailing for future rides, try riding with someone who is familar with the ride, they will be able to tell you when the drop is coming. This is the only ride I would recommend riding even though you are scared because the other stuff in the ride are so good. Most people are glad they rode Splash Mountain.

Space Mountian, Expedition Everest, Rock n' Roller Coaster, and Tower of Terror are not worth the anxiety attack! These are bonified thrill rides.

Mission Space try the tame version.

Avoid Primevil Whirl, it looks tame, but it makes a lot of people sick!

I am a ride sissy. :wave2: i have tried BTMR 2x - 6 years apart. I did NOT like the jerking around. I have never tried Space Mountain - maybe someday. I love Splash Mountain - there are smaller drops that get longer each time until the big one. KRR didn't bother me and we hardly got wet - luck of the draw. I won't try EE, but will try Soarin. Loved Test Track, but won't do Mission Space. No TofT, RNRC, Dinosaur, Primevil Whirl, Star Tours, Tea Cups. The best I can describe BTMR is that it is like Star Tours, but moving. I think if you can handle Star Tours you can do BTMR.

All rides at Disney are longer on theme than thrills. Having said that...in order of severity(imho): Tower of Terror (a falling elevator car), Mission Space spinning version, Expedition Everest, and then Rock N Rollercoaster. These are by no means what you may have encountered at a theme park elsewhere. Disney believes that their audience does not wish to have "extreme" rides.
I believe they are modifying their belief as time goes by.
Funny thing, though, no one but you knows what trips your trigger. My sis's teenager cried on Tower of Terror. I suggested she pass on Rock N Rollercoaster. She came out all smiles. You'd hate to go home without a valid, firsthand opinion, wouldn't you? Take a chance. Enjoy yourself. By the way, I omit Soarin', since you move maybe 40 feet. It does, however, have Smell-O-Vision.
:thumbsup2

splash mountain doesn't go down 10 to 15 ft. it goes down 5 stories but it goes by fast. at the tip top of the big drop it looks like u will crash into the big thorn bush at the bottom :)
the ride is not over at the end of the drop
rockin roller coaster isnt really bad. the first 10 seconds make u scream but it is a totally fun ride
tower of terror HUGE motion sickness warning! it has a lovely ;) pre-show but after that its just all up and down and up and down. REALLY high! its awesome though.
:yay:

I've heard of more than a few people experiencing motion sickness on Star Tours. I would not compare Thunder Mountiain to Star Tours, I don't think its a fair comparison.

Thunder Mountian is jerky, but won't make you puke.

i dont know why ppl say mission space makes them sick and say its the worst thing they have like ever experienced. it probably isnt. mission space rocked.... :rockband: :boat: :rainbow: :dogdance:

If you want a tamer ride on BTM, get in the front - you will experience a much more gentle ride.

FWIW, the same goes for EE. I rode in the 2nd row last week and thought it was kinda lame compared to what I remembered from the spring. I rode again towards the back and it was much more fun.

The simulators (Space Tours, Mission Space) are hit or miss with people. If you really convince yourself you're moving with the picture, generally you won't get sick. For me, I've always loved Mission Space, but Star Tours makes me feel "off."

TOT is probably the most intense - but if you don't mind the drops, it's really fun. My 5 year old liked Space in CA and TOT at MGM - but I still can't convince her to go on Splash or BTM. She hates the hill in Pirates - go figure.

When Mission Space first started operating, it was a soft opening so they could get rider feedback, most people were motion sick after getting off. In fact many people were sick the entire day after experiencing Mission Space. Most of the problems have been fixed and MS is not causing as much motion sickness as it did in the beginning. Also they opened one of centrifuges as a non spinning version so more people would be willing to try the attraction, without fear of death or enduring motion sickness.

I have always been a ride sissy! I don't ride roller coasters because of the big drops. I do like rides that are fast or spin alot and am not afraid of heights, but the drops always bother me. In 2000, I didn't ride any of the roller coasters at WDW. I did, however ride KRR and Countdown to Extinction (now Dinosaur) over and over again. This time I was so upset that I was 14 weeks pregnant because I was feeling really brave and really wanted to go on BTMRR and SM, but felt that is was best to skip such rides this time. Maybe next time. Soarin' is not to be missed though - it is not scary at all, our favorite ride of this trip. :teeth:

Thanks everyone for the info. I feel a bit better now on some of the rides! I just don't want my boyfriend going on everything by himself! Thanks again!
