Some photos from my recent Disney Wonder Alaskan Cruise (more photos in page 2, 3, 4 and 5).

Actually, all my whale shots were shot with 24-70. I never really used my 70-200 except for a few shots on Tracy Arm day. Personally, I would not even bother with the 70-200.

Damn that whale got close to you. Okay.... I'm going with the 300mm (hopefully I get lucky enough for that type of breaching shot), but I'll have the RX100 on my wrist and ready in case any "close" situations present themselves.

If I had the 70-200 lens on, I would not have gotten those close up shots as that whale swam right underneath our boat and was within feet.

OMG. Amazing shots. We will be sailing to Alaska in exactly one year. I can't wait! Tell me more about the Harv & Marv whale watching. How choppy were the seas (if at all)? I have been whale watching in Maine and gotten sea sick before, but I really want to try again in Alaska. Love your photos!

WONDERful!! We set sail in just 13 days and I'm so excited to hear you had a wonderful time.

We booked this cruise back in Sept 2014 so a long year of waiting and planning. Cannot wait to take this vacation. We leave in 11 days, only 9 more working days to go!!!!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful photos. Look forward to seeing more.

We're on your cruise!!!! We booked about 18 mths ago or so, when the pricing was released. We'll be in Vancouver as of 8/29

Wow! Your photos are just incredibly beautiful! I need a new camera and lots of practice!! How far in advance did you book your Harv and Marv excursion? From your conversations with other guests, did you feel it was worth it to go out on your own?

Thanks!
Laurie

It was a little choppy going from the dock to the destination but once you are where the whales are, the water is pretty calm. The choppiness was just the boat hitting the waves, not side to side that would cause sea sickness. It was more bouncing up and down and my daughter loved it, she thought she was riding a roller coaster. None of us (9) ever got the feeling of getting sea sick. I just cannot tell you how impressed I was with Harv and Marv. We had a whale swam upside down underneath us, it was probably once in a lifetime occurrence.

We booked the Marv and Marv about 4-5 months out. It was very easy. I contacted them via email and everything was setup that way (payments online via link). They picked us up right when we got off the gangway along with 2 other families. It was funny because I found out later that one of the other families was in the same facebook group for the cruise and they actually have photos of us on the boat when the whale was near us and I have a photo of them. Of course we swapped photos.

I compared my photos to the photos my other family members took (point and shoot), it is not comparable. Take a nice camera and learn to use it well before your trip. Your memories will live on with the awesome photos after your trip.

Do you think it's enough entertainment for a 22 month old to enjoy? We sail soon but could book if they have availability. I've just been hesitant if there is enough going on for her to even enjoy and be entertained for the trip. And I wouldn't want to disrupt anyone on the boat if she got bored. We're the boats big enough to be comfortable?

Gorgeous photos! I am so excited, we fly to Vancouver Friday for the 24th sailing!! Spent most of the day packing, soooooo ready to see the wonder!! And the ship ;)

To the OP - I write a newsletter every week for my small brick-and-mortar business and I'm currently writing about how we're going to be on this vacation next week - could I use one of your Tracy Arm photos in my newsletter? It's email only - it won't get 'published' on the internet so ownership of the image won't be problem. Thanks for your consideration, and no worries at all if it's not comfortable to you. :)

My niece is 2 1/2 years old and she had fun. You won't disrupt others because it's a whale watching excursion. Boat was definitely big enough to be comfortable and each side of the row holds 2 people and have their own window. Plus, you can go to the front or the back of the boat.

I have no problem with you using my photos at all.

It is a beautiful ship, I'll try to post some photos of the interior the ship that I took late one night when no one was around.
