Okay this person did not pay for the auction. Said I will mail a money order on Monday of last week. Even though this was a paypal only auction. So I emailed him and said please pay by Sunday or I will report to ebay and relist. Finally emailed me on Monday and I had already reported to Ebay and relisted and I left him negative feedback. Well guess what he did. Yep left me negative feedback. I just started selling so the one positive I had now takes me to a zero.

So starting now I am not leaving any feedback until people leave it for me. I am so mad!

On your feedback you can respond to the neg. feedback so they can see your side of the story.

I am by no means an expert at ebay but I do sell and I've come to realize that sometimes it's not worth it to leave bad feedback especially in the begininng when you are trying to make a "good feedback name" for yourself. Just reply to his bad feedback and tell what happened.

If you just started eBay, I would do what those low feedback people do..start a new name and start over. Did you leave the neg, right after you filed for non paying, or did you give them a few days after that to pay? Sometimes that "you didn't pay your seller" letter, shakes them up.

You never know circumstances, I had a lady who finally got a money order to me almost 1.5 months later... I had trouble communicating with her and all, but finally resolved it through 2 phone calls....

I would never leave negative feedback unless it was really necessary b/c everyone will do the same to you.

Besides, with a money order, you don't worry about paypal fees.

I would always give a buyer enough time to pay before I would give negative feedback as i like my 100% feedback positive score.

Don't feel bad for leaving a negative. Next time, you might want to wait a bit longer, but I have no problem leaving a negative if a buyer doesn't pay. The point of the feedback system is so that people know who they're dealing with, if everyone is scared to leave a negative, the system isn't working properly.

I have been on ebay for about 5 years, just normal buy and sell, over the past few yaers it has been geeting worse... I will say and truly hate to say this DON'T leave feedback unless it is left for you or you know this person will in writing. I have had 2 people-one negative when I left positive because i asked when the item was shipped an dgot a big story and a promise that negative feedback would be left due to my impatience????? I recently delated this e-mail but did send it ot ebay abd they sent the persona warning (like doing nothing) but would not remove the feedback as they want me to use sqaure trade 29.95...... the other a neutral saying it was not what he expected -did not ask questions which i alwyas make a point of writing in the descrition, and the picture was clear.
you will never please everyone and some people are just nasty.....
Ebay is not my life
I do not get upset when people leave me negative, its just not worth it, I have bought and sold enogh things to know 99% of the transactions go well and the people behind the transactions are good people
on the other hand you really need to be sure a negative is warrented and that takes a while....
good luck

If a buyer does not pay for a long time, do not miss the deadlines for requesting a final fee refund, etc. This may mean that you will be doing these maneuvers even after the buyer said the check is in the mail, and the buyer will get emails to pay up,k pay up.

Being very new to eBay, I was thinking as I read through this thread, "How can anyone trust the feedback system if everyone is afraid to leave neg feedback as a warning to others bc. they fear retaliation?"

I wonder if eBay's creator thought of this when he can up with the feedback system? As with many things, it looks good on paper but doesn't work as well in practice. :sad2:

I was just checking the feedback of a seller who had something I wanted to bid on and the seller had 2 negs so I looked at them. BOTH were complaining that the price was too high. ????? Than why did you bid on it? YOU chose to buy the item and then leave neg feedback because of what you bid? I don't get it. Needless to say I still bid on this sellers items.

I am hoping that all the other buyers will leave me positive feedback. So that will take care of the negatives. Otherwise yes I will change my name (can someone tell me how to do it).

Ebay is not my life either. But at least I was being fair. I emailed him said please tell me about payment by such date. He did not do anything. Then 2 days later he emailed me back.

Thanks everyone

I've heard that the "secret" to leaving negative feedback is to leave it in the 11th hour following a bad transaction. I think that you have 60 days to leave feedback??? So, leave your negative feedback at the very end of the 60th day. By the time they see it, it will probably be too late for them to retaliate.

That said, I no longer leave feedback (as a seller) until the person has left feedback for me. To me, that is their signal that the transaction is complete. Until they leave feedback, I don't know if they have an outstanding complaint or whatever that may cause some major headaches and change my rating of them.

You leave feedback at the 11th hour if you really must or earlier if you are quite sure they won't retaliate. Otherwise it is far more effective just to do your FVF, three of those and they are out.

The 11th hour thing doesn't always work. If they still have the number, and need to leave feedback, they can.

I've always wondered why a seller would leave negative feedback if the buyer paid immediately and gave all shipping information promptly. Whether the buyer is unhappy with the product, or it is broken in transit is immaterial to the actual auction transaction. Once the buyer politely pays in a timely manner, feedback should be left by the seller. This retaliation mentality is disturbing.

Another "newbie" question: What is FVF?

I am one of those that doesn't leave feedback until the buyer has let me know that they are happy with their purchase. Why? Because there are people out there that will hold that feedback as a bribe if you dont' give them what they want. Even if they paid for the item ten seconds after the auction ended, and they emailed you and let you know they'd paid, and were sooo friendly that person can end up being your worst nightmare. They could be one of those that "never gets the item". They could be one of those that isn't happy with the purchase because they decide it's not worth the money. Or, they could make up a story and want half of the price of the item back. There are all sorts of difficult people out there, even if they pay quickly.

With thousands of sales, this has never happened to me. I believe in giving feedback after I receive payment. At that point, I have had a "positive" experience. If there are issues down the road, I can deal with them. If the buyer leaves a negative, I can always explain my side. I'm not going to give a negative just because I got one.

I believe in leaving feedback when the sale is completed. I know it's completed, when the buyer has his item and is satisfied. Because I use vrane to leave my feedback for me, once the buyer completes the sale by letting me know via feedback, all is well, then vrane will leave it for them. You can explain your side til the cows come home, but unless someone looks past the neg, it won't be read. I have 4 negs, out of 4400 feedback. Two from a non payer, one who loved the item, but didn't like that the box I sent it in said K-mart, and one from a person who was unhappy because I charged sales tax. I left feedback first in all those cases. I won't anymore, because the eBay feedback is just stupid..that a non payer can leave a neg. If someone doesn't want to leave me feedback first, because that's not their policy, that's fine with me. I have found, most people who leave feedback as soon as buyer pays, have not had a neg from a non payer, or for a stupid reason. Once that happens, they usually post on the eBay lists, that maybe it's time to rethink how they do it.
