Was told this when doing a walk through and the extra space is in the interior.

Might not be news but didn't see this talked about.

Yes, there a a few. Probably 5 in total all on the 5th floor. There are also a few that have a small square balcony

It’s been discussed here & there. Based on my interpretation of the 5th floor floorplan I count 6 no balcony studios. One lake view & one standard view w/ a bay window bump out which adds a small amount of space. One turret studio which adds a lot of space. One standard view & two lake view studios next to the bay window bump out studios which are no bigger than other studios. The rest of the 5th floor studios - 15 total - have small box balconies. The rooms you reference next to the bay windows… 9520 on the garden side, and I believe 9515 and 9519 on the lagoon side, did have solid wall balconies when these were suite bedrooms. Unless things have changed, there would only be 3 studios without balconies on the fifth floor and all have the additional interior space.

Here is a layout of the 5th floor. I see 6 rooms. This was posted on www.DVCnews.com. Do the three rooms that appear to have been attached to another room as a suite have a balcony? It doesn’t look like it. I am talking about rooms 3, 4 and 6 in the picture below.

There are also some rooms on the 4th floor with small square balconies too. I think 18 rooms on the 4th have them. I am going by the floor plan filings.

I’m no architect, and can’t ‘see’ the box balconies on the 4th floor drawings, but looking at photos of the exterior of BPK I think you are right https://dvcnews.com/resorts/grand-f...n-big-pine-key-construction-progress-may-2022. I’ve been so curious about the 5th floor I hadn’t really looked at the 4th 😂.

Having had the unfortunate luck of being assigned the only non-balcony room at Boulder Ridge, that is sad. They should actually charge less points for these rooms or offer some sort of comp.
What was that room number? I can never remember. We don't usually book studios, but we may make another fall trip and won't need a 1BR. It would be just my luck to get that studio!

This happened to us last August!!!
DW and I received our room assignment on the phone. When we went into the room, we were shocked that there was no balcony. I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t even know that that was a possibility. We rarely stay in Studios, but since it was just the two of us, we saved on the points doing that.

Not sure if we have full picture yet but how does this translate to any room requests that you would recommend? Are the rooms without balconies definitely worse or is there some trade off where someone may prefer them (e.g. bigger inside)? What about the rooms with the smaller balconies? Are these bigger inside or just an overall worse room to get?

I am considering specifically requesting a "turret" resort studio with the bay window seating area the next time we're at the Grand. We're open-to-close park people, and would probably enjoy the larger sitting area more than a balcony.

We're not open-to-close people, but I think I'd rather have the extra sitting area, too. Hoping someone will review one and include pictures.

Do you happen to know how much bigger the turret room is? I’m conflicted as I think the extra space is nice but with studio a nice balcony allows some separation. We don’t have ton of experience with it but our last trip we got ton of use on balcony from 4 yr old and 2 yr old playing out there with me while our 7 month old slept inside with wife.

We spent two nights in a standard studio on the 4th floor. We had a cathedral ceiling with nobody above us and the room was not a conjoining room. The balcony had a solid railing so you could not see anything while seated. We would trade the airy room for the lesser balcony as we don’t typically use the balcony. Room seemed to be a few feet longer than the standard rooms. For example the circular table was stored between the bed and the outside wall with room to spare. Also, the closet was next to the entry door vs. next to the bed.

Here is part of the 4th floor floor plan. The balconies circled in yellow are small, while red are full size. You can see the small ones have more lines representing walls. All small balcony rooms have the small roof up above it.

4533 has no balcony. There may be more.
Thank you! No, it's only the one studio at BR, I just never remember the room number. Anyone know why it doesn't have a balcony? I never thought to ask and I'm sure there is a reason.
