This is probably over on the rumors board, but I haven't checked - I thought that some of the 2009'ers would like to know .... apparently Disney is most likely going to offer a counter service dining plan - you get 2 CS, 2 Snacks per night and a refillable mug for your stay.
I personally think this sounds like a GREAT idea if it is true. My guess is they might charge about 17.99-19.99/day for an adult and 9.99 a day for a kid?

For our upcoming 5 day trip before our cruise, this would work perfectly, as I didn't plan on doing many (maybe 2?) table service, as we will be eating so much on the cruise.
I sure hope its true!

Oh my gawd. . .a counter service dining plan would be PERFECT for me and my son. . .we hardly ever take time to stop and eat table service. . .(maybe 2 or three times during an 8 night trip)

I just read that apparently it IS true and being offered to the UK people booking so far. Its $26/day for adults.
I am not sure if that is really good value or not. It is more convenience than savings.

Not sure 26 a day is a value either, but hey. . .can you convert 2 CS to one TS? if so then this could be a GREAT value. . .or convenience. And prepaying meals is a consideration. . .cause I love prepaying my trip and not charging anything. . .gotta love cash. . .lol.

THat would totally ROCK. It would be perfect for our family. I hope it is not JUST a rumor!

That would be great. There are a lot of people, including me, who don't want to eat a TS every day. I prefer to eat mostly CS and one or two TS over a week trip. So the regular ddp isn't a great value.

Apparently NOT a rumor - people in the UK can book this as part of their package for 2009 now.
So I am trying to figure the possible savings...
(Not factoring in the mug at this point).

Using a typical meal from Electric Umbrella in Epcot...
Grilled Chicken Sand & fries - 7.19
Dessert - 3.49 cheesecake
Fountain drink - 2.29
Total: 12.97

So lets say the average CS meal would be $13 - x 2 that is $26 - then 2 snacks at $8 total plus the mug -
So yah, putting it out on paper like this does show the savings....
But that is only if you eat dessert at every meal too. When we were on the DDP last year I found a lot of times we got the dessert and only ate half of it, or saved it for later.
Also, sometimes I just wasn't hungry enough for an adult meal and we would share the meal or I would just order a kids meal.
I guess if you shared lunches, you would have some CS left over for mickey waffles in the mornings :)
Ok don't flame me about sharing the food - but sometimes you just can't eat that much! If I was paying OOP I wouldn't think twice about ordering 1 meal to share on CS.

I think its an awful deal. $26 per day for two counter service meals? I haven't been in a couple of years, but I'm pretty sure all counter service meals average a lot less than $13, especially if you're buying a refillable mug anyway.

Hmmm, I went to the UK site and didn't see this option anywhere in the dining list. Would you mind sharing where you saw this?

Thanks

Here is the problem for me. . .I NEVER eat dessert. . .so don't like paying for it in advance. . .but, if I could convert 2 CS credits into a dinner at say. . .Artist Point or Jiko. . .it might be worth it to me. .

I don't think that will happen especially since those two locations are signature restaurants to begin with

Ah, well, Jiko is one TS credit. . .so it could happen. . .Anyway, since I like to stay at BWI I looked up my fave meal at BWI. . .with the MOST expensive dessert (remember I don't eat desserts) It was 14 dollars. . .so, without dessert it was 10. .26 could be a deal if I did snacks beyond bottled water. . .(since it is 2 snacks and two CS daily)

Jiko is also 2 TS credits. I would put money against them allowing a 2CS for 2TS trade

Most meals are gonna run $7-$10 a meal then add drinks( most of the CS do not have a place to fill up your mug at), and even if you don't do desert that comes to about $19-$25 per day and that's without snacks, which would be another $6-$8 a day. So at the very least you break even and in alot of case have a slight value.

Even if it came out to about the same price I would pay if I did it seperate, it would be REALLY nice to have it just paid for when I buy my package and not have to worry about using my debit card (or linking it to my KTTW card). Then I would only need my spending money and I would be set!

THe thought of having it ALL paid for when we arrrive is REALLY nice. THe current DDP's are just not relaly up our alley. Spending one meal every day with a 1yo and 5yo sitting down and waiting on food is just NOT appealing! :scared:

Sounds pretty good to me too! Some trips we try to do more CS than TS. Not even a question about the amount of snacks we get:goodvibes

I read it on another board, and it was confirmed by people in the UK who have booked this through travel agents over there. I have decided to get this plan, unless I get a decent pin for room only :)

If you eat at Cosmic Rays and get the BBQ ribs/chicken combo, then you really get a good deal. $13.99 meal, $3.59 dessert, $2.39 drink=$19.97 for one meal alone. This is more than enough to share....DH and I did on a trip in 2006. Then it frees up another meal per person for breakfast for at least one day! Just a thought!

Good idea....once it is confirmed I will be looking for these kinds of ideas!
