Some more 1st Communion questions...

We like to get people crucifixes for religious occasions...not "kiddie" crucifixes, but nice ones that they will hopefully someday want to hang in their own home.

Last time we had a religious occasion we got the child a Celtic cross(he was Irish)made out of pewter...it was so nice I actually wanted to keep it myself:eek: .

Anyhow, somehitng like a Playstation kind of defeats the purpose of the religious experinece, IMHO.

As far the relatives...why do adults who travel seem to think that everyone who lives at their destination should make alll their arrangement for them??? I have a SIL like this...lives in MO, every time she comes to CT, we get a big song and dance about who's going to put her up, who's going to let her borrow their car etc. And, if no one lets her borrow the car, then we get the song and dnace about how expensive renting a car is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of were I am going, or what family lives there, I am prepared to make arrangements to stay in a hotel and rent a car. If the family member inviteds me to stay, and it's not a big imposition, then I wil.

As far as showering, here's the announcement I'd make the night before: "We are leaving at 8AM to get to church in time to get a seat. If you want to come with us, be ready at 8AM. If you are not ready at 8AM, then you will need to find your own way to church, and you may or may not have a seat when you arrive".

Well said Disney Doll.

Our son received religious items from us for his First Communion. Plus obviously we threw him a party, bought his outfit, bought the professional pictures, video, etc. The party doesn't count as a gift but I just threw that in there. He received alot of money and some bonds for his First Communion. We had him open up a savings account for all the money for his future. I know some parents might have let him buy what he wanted with his money, but we did not! For birthday money, sure, Communion money no. It is saved. Do people really have big Confirmation parties? Around here they really don't. Plus no special outfit, just Sunday best.
