My DS12 has a friend who was diagnosed with lymphoma. After a bone marrow transplant form her little brother, she is doing great. She met with the MAW team over the weekend, and her mom posted a few "fun facts" about MAW that I thought were interesting. The Disney part doesn't surprise me in the least. :)

Here are a couple of Make-A-Wish fun facts:

- 7 out of 10 wishes are for trips to Disney
- They have a separate resort called "Give Kids the World"
- Miley Cyrus is no longer taking requests (which although I was a little put off by this, until I heard someone wished to meet Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and had to wait 3 years to work their way to the top of the list, and then only met one of them! ... I'm glad **** favs are a little less well known.

Her DD wants to meet Drew Seeley and John Cena (WWE; this is for her brother). Her "wish" is to have her very own art studio. They are going to try to renovate the shed. It may not go through, but a trip to Bermuda is her 2nd choice.

We stayed at Give Kids The World and it was actually more fun then the parks. Whenever we do Florida, we carve out a day to go visit. We'll never forget our experience there.

My cousin's son had a deadly form of blood\bone marrow cancer - the name of it escapes me.

He was diagnosed at 2 - and lived until 8 (when he told his parents he was tired of fighting).

Make a Wish took him and his entire family (grandparents included) to WDW. They stayed at the Poly. In fact, they were there during 9-11 and had to stay extra as the planes weren't flying for a couple of days.

They said that this vacation was truly magical for them. It was their last one with Anthony.

This year my Mom passed. We asked that in lieu of flowers, donations were to be made to Make a Wish.

It truly is a generous, thoughtful organization. In addition to the wish, they provide the family will all kinds of counseling, medical referrals, etc.

Just as an FYi for any Fed employees Give Kids the World is a choice for the Combined federal campaign. Too late for this year---but maybe next year. :)

Ewing's Sarcoma?

Give Kids the World is only for WDW. I went to Disneyland and they don't have any thing like GKTW, so Disney payed for my nights in the Paradise Pier. Disney was SO generous for me on my trip. They paid for 4 of my nights, my 3 day tickets, we had turndown service, and they sent multiple treats like Mickey Rice Krispies to my room. They were truly awesome with the Wish.

My 8 year old granddaughter was diagnosed last year with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Burkitts. Make a Wish is sending her, her sister and her parents to Australia in May for her Make a Wish.

Here's a bittersweet story about a MAW donor.

My upstairs neighbor was in her 90s and in very poor health. One of her daughters lived in the building and took such good care of her. Just did everything everyday. The other daughter did not come to visit a single time while I was living there (2-3 years).

When the mother died she left everything to the older daughter who had taken care of her - nothing to the other daughter or her children. Really all she had was her condo - but it was paid for and after 20 years in No. California it was worth at least half a million.

A few months later the daughter who inherited (only 55) got very, very ill with a staph infection and died very suddenly. She had no heirs and had listed MAW as her beneficiary for years.

So MAW got well over a million dollars from those two condos. The other daughter was furious - but I think MAW was much more deserving than the neglectful daughter.

Especially after reading the wonderful MAW stories here I am glad the money went to such a good organization.
