DD did something last Friday that surprized and made me quite happy, so I thought I would share with you all.
She got her first power wheelchair last year in November, but didn't use it a lot. They practiced with it at school and we took it to dance class, but she was afraid of it, school didn't really push using it, and we didn't have a place to use it at home. About 2 weeks ago, they decided that the power wheelchair will be the only one at school, the manual chair stays home. Last Friday when she got off the bus, she asked me to call her dad and find out when he would be home because she wanted to show him how well she drives the power chair. Lucky it was warm outside because she insisted on waiting outside for him. She demonstrated her skill and then wanted to take him for a walk. She insisted that he hold her "non-driving" hand the whole time. It was so sweet and the first time ever she could drive her wheelchair and hold someone's hand at the same time.

How wonderful! Thanks for sharing, I needed a happy story!

I wished i had a camera. That would have been neat.
Tonight when she came home, the wheelchair was broken, with the joystick just hanging there sort of wobbly.:(

The note from school said she ran into the door when they were leaving the classroom for the bus.
I don't know how you run into a door with the joystick, when there are lots of pieces that stick out farther than that. The poor wheelchair is going to be quite banged up before she is good at driving it.

She was crying and quite upset about it when she got in the house. She kept asking when I can "help" the wheelchair. Send some pixie dust please for the repairman, who is coming on Wed. Hopefully, he won't need to order any parts and it won't be too expensive to fix!!!!!

Sending some PIXIE DUST your way!!!!! :) :( :)

Here's some PD and a big {{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}!!!!

One of my favorite things was teaching people how to use their new wheelchairs!
;) watch out! your daughter now has a wonderful taste of FREEDOM! gotta love those teenagers:) Congrats!

The pixie dust is already working. her teacher called me today and said the school will pay for the repair. It seems they left the joystick in the "folded out" position so DD could get closer to the table and then they didn't help her refold it. So when they told her to drive out the door, it was loose and when she pushed on it to go, it unfolded.
