I never paid much attention to what goes on at WDW during Christmas and New Years because my husband is a Christmas Freak and he MUST BE HOME for the holidays.

I can't believe it........today he asked me to call and make ressies from Dec 26th to the 2nd of Jan. I've always wanted to go between Thanksgiving and Christmas but I'll take what I can get.

Can someone out there let me know if there are still things to do during that time and what I should know about anything you might need reservations for in advance. I know about dining and the shows that are available all year round. What I'm looking for are things that are particular to this time year--or is everything over except for New Years Eve celebrations.

Thanks for whatever info you can share.

lizanne,

We made our first trip to WDW in December 2000 and the holiday events/decorations were great. We went early December when it wasn't crowded; you might want to plan carefully to avoid as best you can the crowds between Christmas and New Years, but I'm sure the decorations and most of the events willl be up and running the whole time you are there.

This web site is a good place to start for all the holiday events:

Have fun planning!

I won't lie, you are going to WDW at one of the most busiest times of the year. The last time that I worked during this particular week (at MGM), we filled to capacity nearly every day, and MK filled every day by 11am-noon. However, if you consider decorations, festivities, and weather, it's a great time to go! (Except for those weird years when December gets into the 30s).

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights will be going on at MGM. This is AWESOME, there are millions of lights decorating the backlot, and it "snows" every night. There's also no line, you go through at your own pace. VERY cool.

The Candlelight Processional should be going on at EPCOT. It usually goes up until Dec. 30th. Check out times for this...it's free, but it'll be busy, and you'll want to make sure you get a seat. It's really cool, and there are celebrity hosts that narrate the Christmas Story.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and parade might still be going on at MK, I can't remember when they stop that.

New Year's Eve is..well...New Year's Eve. Last time I worked this night, we had Vertical Horizon and Sister Hazel playing at MGM.

And I'm sure I'm missing a few things. But the decorations alone are enough to plan a trip for this time. And who knows, maybe the crowds will be down this year.
Anyways, have a great trip....and stop in at tower of terror and say hi!

Enjoy the Christmas decorations around WDW. They are beautiful. Just be prepared for the crowds. If you have a car, take a side trip to Celebration,Fl one evening. It "snows" every night around the holidays and they have quite a few other activities to enjoy. There are some Christmas Pics in the link below. Enjoy your stay:)

Thanks to all of you.

I've heard about the crowds, but we've been to WDW many times so seeing the decorations would be #1 reason for this trip -

Never heard about the "snow" at Celebration - sounds like something we'd like to see.

The link had great info.

By the way HTHbellhop, Tower of Terror is my most favorite ride in all of Disney. I've been on it too many time to count but when that drop comes.........WOW.........gets me every time.
