Solo Eats and Newbie Treats - Completed 1/28!

I started to feel sick the last evening of our trip, so on our departure day I opted out of going to Epcot with my friends and just did went to DTD for lunch before driving home.

I knew before I got there where I was going - Wolfgang Puck Express!

There are two WPE locations in DTD. I visited the one on the West Side on a previous trip and had read there was a more expanded menu for the marketplace location so I decided to go to that one (ok, so maybe World of Disney being close by played a part in that decision).

WPE is a counter service where you place your order at the counter, get a number, and then a runner brings your food to the table.

After much deliberation (I loved the Chinois Chicken Salad I had last time - do I get that or try something different?), I finally settled on a couple of items and placed my order. They gave me a cup for my Coke which you first fill yourself, but runners will offer to get you refills once you sit down.

I found a table easily as it was only 11:30am and the lunch rush had not quite began. After 10 or 15 minutes, my food came. For my first dish, I picked the Hearts Of Romaine Salad:

Hearts of Romaine was just their fancy-speak for a basic Caesar salad. Instead of croutons though, this not-so-little beauty had a piece of tomato-basil bruschetta.

This was easily one of favorite ceasar salads ever. The romaine was fresh and crispy and coated with just enough dressing. I'm not positive, but I think the parmesan was freshly grated because they were very thin and airy small-sized flecks of cheese. I liked this a lot because then the cheese stuck the lettuce easily instead of the that hefty pre-shredded stuff that just falls to the bottom of the plate because they have too much mass to be able to stick to the lettuce.
The dressing was a nice basic caesar with hints of lemon and anchovy. It could have used some pepper, but I suppose that issue is easily remedied.

In addition to my salad, I got the Margherita Pizza:

This was another great dish. Call me a pizza snob, but I think the best pies can only come from wood-fired ovens. And guess what they have at WPE? ;) So right away, I was bound to like the pizza. The crust was fairly thin, but not as much as your typical NYC style slice. There was no sauce - the pizza had been brushed with olive oil before the toppings went on. They use a typical mozzerella as a base and then add sliced tomatoes and half balls of fresh mozzerella. It's finished off with some torn basil added after cooking. They obviously use good quality ingredients at WPE because this was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten in the US. I've been to Italy, so I'm ruined for life when it comes to pizza, but this was a very good alternative for me.

There was one big issue though - it was cold! It had obviously been sitting around waiting for a runner to pick it up. I was able to flag someone down and get them to pop it back in the oven for a minute though. It was nice and hot the second time around. :thumbsup2

Other than the pizza being cold, I really enjoyed my lunch at WPE. The salad was fairly large, so I ended up taking half the pizza home. It is a great value for this kind of food - I had my salad, pizza, and a soda for about twenty bucks.

Grade: A -
