I'm probably going to use CS and snack my way through the parks for most of my trip but I want to try Steakhouse 55 one evening. Does the bar serve meals or just appetizers? I think I might feel more comfortable sitting there than a table by myself. Any thoughts/opinions?

I know when I was traveling in London I was often seated with other people. They sat me with other single diners, families and other ladies having dinner together. It was a great way to eat! Sometimes they shared conversation and sometimes not. I got to meet some nice people and try things I would not have had the chance otherwise. :confused3

I suspect that seating in a restaurant with strangers might be more of a "European" thing!:) I've never been approached asking me if I'ld mind sharing my table with someone I didn't know here..I think I would be pretty uncomfortable with it. (I guess the US isn't a very "communal" society!). Interesting suggestion,though..

I'm not sure about eating at the bar, but I do know that it was not uncomfortable dining at a table alone. I ate there alone last year, got very good service, and no other diners paid any attention to me.

thanks, Newcomer52, I was wondering about other's experiences...did you make an ADR for one person or did you walk-in?

In the US people don't get seated with strangers, personally I would feel really weird about that. :) If someone asked me to share a table I would probably say no thanks. :)

OP I think you can eat at the bar at SH55 but I've never done it myself. If not just get a table, they won't have a problem with it and you shouldn't feel weird about it. :) Just enjoy yourself.

It's weird to me. We come here, talk about Disney and other things, we don't know each other, but must share common interests yet, think it strange to sit with others face to face and share a meal. I'm sure there would be plenty to talk about and share.

I was by myself, and offered to share a table with a couple at a counter service restaurant at the MK (Florida). It was crowded and I thought it a waste to use a whole table just for me. We had a great time sharing our day and what we liked about the MK.

I agree. This was our experience in England - others just sat down at our table. I've never seen this over here. I would make an ADR, ask for a nice quiet table and enjoy!

I hear what you're saying, and indeed customs are just different in different parts of the world. I think it would be a nice thing if restaurants maybe had a section where people could be seated who wish to meet others and not dine alone. Certainly all would need to consent to this. I know that when I visit my sister (lives 2000 miles away) we eat out often and really savour the time to catch up - this would be uncomfortable if others dined with us. It's not that we are unfriendly, but the chance to share a meal together is so rare for us.

What they do on the cruises now is nice at the open seating: you can have your own table, or you be seated with others.
