Solo Dining Suggestions?

Hi, all. I will be in the half marathon in January, followed by a 4 day solo vacation. Has anyone had any solo experience with table service reastaurants? If so, which ones would you suggest and why? Conversely, which ones would you advise I avoid and why? Finally, if you do the counter service places, where do you get the food, then where do you sit to eat it?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom!

On my own I completely avoid buffets and character meals (but I'd try to avoid character meals whether I was alone or not).

For dining on my own I prefer the bars and lounges usually. For actual restaurants, I'd go with Jiko (Cooking Place counter seat) or I'd go up to the California Grill. If you can't get in there without an ADR then try going up to the lounge, where they serve the full menu. Or go out to Sanaa if their eclectic menu interests you and your usual travel companions would never want to eat there.

Can't really make much sense out of the question about counter services - I would get the food wherever they give the food out - and sit wherever the tables are for that restaurant - I would need more information about what sort of options you are looking at regarding counter service.

Yes I did, well sorta, DH was in meetings for 2 days so I was on my own from 6am to 6pm..

I had a solo lunch at Tutto and Chefs De France and the food was fantastic at both but the service at Chefs was a million times better than Tutto...at Tutto I was rushed and treated pretty crappy but at Chefs I was told to sit back and relax and enjoy my meal and wait to see Remy (the rat). My server at Chefs treated me like a queen!

I never been solo but for a marathoner I suggest Tutto. It's so good.

I ate at Teppan Edo - fun show, chatted with the other folks at the table and really liked the food.

Le Cellier - felt off somehow. I think maybe the problem was the server. He was a little too attentive. The grandma sitting at the table next to me said he was flirting with me which I'd never notice. :rotfl: I've been married forever it seems like. The food was good though - I ate lunch there.

Boma - fantastic. Great Service. Loved the food, doing the buffet and trying all the different foods was fun.

CS: breakfast at resort - POR. Columbia Harbour House in MK - yummy sandwiches. Pinocchio Village Haus in MK cause I seem to remember watching the boats at IASW ride while eating. I snacked around World Showcase on night for supper too. That was fun. Y&Y CS in AK - I also got a Yak Attack to drink - yum. All of CS you just get your food and find a table.

I enjoy people watching so eating alone doesn't bother me a bit. I can't wait for Early Dec. 2010 when I'm planning on doing another solo trip to see all the Christmas stuff.

I guess what I'm asking here is, where would be a good place to grab food, then sit and entertain myself whilst eating? Where would someone suggest as the best table or bench for "entertainment value?"
