Solo Character Meals

I made ressies for Crystal Palace today. I was told that I should warn the staff ahead of time that I am solo so that hopefully someone can scoot my way when they see characters near me to help me with photos. How do you normally tip the wait staff. At the end of the meal (and just tip extra) or as photos are taken?
