Solid Lipstick and Chap Stick Yes or No?

I've heard carry-on. Anything like chapstick, solid deodorant, etc. must be in carry-on.

I take it that you mean checked luggage, not carryon.

At this point chapstick seems to be included in the ban; not sure about lipstick. But I can recommend Clinique Chubbystick (a pencil) as an alternative which should be ok (won't be flying until next week so don't quote me on it until then!)

The evening news (last night, obviously) said that they took away a ladies lipstick. This kind looking (probably 80 yr old) woman made some sarcastic comment about how she must look like a terrorist.

So, don't count on lipstick or chapstick being allowed. Check it or don't take it if you'll be 'lost' without it (or if it's an expensive brand to replace)

As long as it is up to the individual TSA agent assume it won't be allowed.

Aiigh! First they take away the water to hydrate myself, then they take away the Chapstick?! I'll be the one ripping into her checked luggage right there on the carousel to soothe my parched lips!

(Yes, I'd rather have dessicated lips and be safe than otherwise...)

A friend just called to say that on the front page of our local paper was an updated list of banned items-Chapstick and lipstick were on the list.
I don't know what to do! My DS9 can never go long without his Chapstick. Otherwise, he is acutally in pain! A 3 hour plane ride without it? No way! It may sound silly, but do you think if we had a note from his doctor it would be allowed? Aghhh!

actually desiccated (really not being a spelling nazi)

I just thought the word was cool and a great scrabble word too.

Doubt a note will do it. Remember your avg TSA agent is not going to use any common sense here. However, if you can get the MD to write a prescription and get the Pharmacist to attach it to the tube you are set!

Too funny! You know, it didn't look right when I typed it, but I was too lazy to check. Poor spelling nazi I am!

Our local paper in Philly showed airport security personnel carrying large trash bags of toiletries. I quickly recognized the sunblock stick we use on our kids faces. (looks like a huge chapstick but it's sunblock)
As for the Chapstick, I guess you could always pack one chappy (as we call it) in your checked luggage to use in FL and bring an old one to apply right before you go thru security then throw it out before boarding. It's a pain but I'd rather feel safe.

I doubt that will do. The Farmer's Almanac suggests (and yes, it is a definite yuck) ear wax.
I also use a lot of chapstick, but, I guess I am going to have to really coat it on and deal with it.
They do serve water on the plane, so, I doubt you will suffer long. :)

Carol A, I just have to ask. What is your problem with TSA agents? Most of them are great.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

(Runs in fear....)

sorry, CarolA, couldn't resist! :teeth:

would it be possible to leave your chapstick in your pocket? As long as it's not got metal on it anywhere it shouldn't cause a problem, is that right? Just a question/suggestion.

Honestly to me, this seems rediculous and I'd almost rather just cancel my flight all together and drive. I'm really irritated by this. And no, I don't believe it's a question of being 'safe or sorry'.

tricia.

Geez, I was going to suggest that, but, figured I would get toasted for it.
You have guts Tricia. :)

The rules are clear. They include what is in your pockets. Please don't try and rewrite the rules - you will just hold up your fellow travellers, as well as yourself.

Most of the posters on this board only have a few hours flight to get to WDW - if you have a layover, and really need chapstick, buy it on the layover, use it, and toss it before you board your next flight.

I am really not concerned about my 2-4 hour flights - it's the 14 hour ones that concern me.

I have watched enough TSA agents BERATE and abuse passengers. I have had one of them tell me that if he wanted to he could strip search me. I got to meet his boss (Why? becasue I had a cork screw in my luggage which is allowed. ) I posted my all time horror story yesterday but I don't find it acceptable to yell at an older woman in a wheelchair "you could walk if you wanted too"

Unfortunately, there are some great ones, However, they have a lot of folks who are rude and in positions they shouldn't be in. (And when I am standing right next to you it is not required that you YELL at the top of your lungs at me)

One of my coworkers got yelled at in Tulsa Monday. Agent was standing there screaming at him to take his laptop out of the case. One SMALL problem, the laptop had already come out of the case and gone thru machine.... When the guy couldn't "provide the laptop" the agent was furious.....

I also think it's a false sense of security. The whole beverage thing is an example. Beverages that you can buy at the gate area aren't safe??? Why? Could it be that the TSA didn't really screen all that stuff like they were suppose too?

Thank you. I agree with a lot of what you said, but, I really don't like to paint them all bad because of a few (hopefully) bad ones.

Not sure if the TSA did not screen properly or they are afraid that something that is not detectable with the security systems at the gate are not equipped to pick up the substances that seem to be the problem. Perhaps it is overkill, but, hey, what can you say about an agency that sees nothing wrong with a corkscrew but has a hissy about a pair of scissors that may be over 4" long. Anyone that wants some entertainment should read the list of items you may or may not bring on board. In some instances it is hysterical and it just makes you want to shake your head.

I have to agree with CarolA.......I have witnessed some really arrogant, obnoxius TSA agents in action. Unfortunately, these people give the good guys a bad rep because of the way they are. I mean, you give some people just a little....power and it really does go to their heads. And, sad to say, the way our current government has the TSA set up nothing will change in the near future.
