Solid Lipstick and Chap Stick Yes or No?

The rules are clear. They include what is in your pockets. Please don't try and rewrite the rules - you will just hold up your fellow travellers, as well as yourself.

Most of the posters on this board only have a few hours flight to get to WDW - if you have a layover, and really need chapstick, buy it on the layover, use it, and toss it before you board your next flight.

I am really not concerned about my 2-4 hour flights - it's the 14 hour ones that concern me.

If it was as simple as that, I would not have posted. My son can not go without a lip balm for even an hour, let alone a 3 hour flight. It's great that you need not be concerned about your 2-4 hour flight. :thumbsup2 But I do! I was just looking for suggestions.

I have to agree with CarolA.......I have witnessed some really arrogant, obnoxius TSA agents in action. Unfortunately, these people give the good guys a bad rep because of the way they are. I mean, you give some people just a little....power and it really does go to their heads. And, sad to say, the way our current government has the TSA set up nothing will change in the near future.

I wonder how any of us would behave in a similar circumstance when we had to face arrogant obnoxius passengers all day. I do agree a little power does go to some heads, no issue there, it happens in all walks of life. Police are a prime example.
As to the government and the TSA, no debate there. ITA.
I asked only because I have yet to encounter anything but nice TSA agents.
Hopefully, this luck continues. :)

Doubt a note will do it. Remember your avg TSA agent is not going to use any common sense here. However, if you can get the MD to write a prescription and get the Pharmacist to attach it to the tube you are set!

I kid you not I plan to talk to my doctor about this. The only problem will be the fact that the brand of chapstick I use is called "Chicken Poop".
Will enjoy watching the face of the TSA's as they carefully examine the tube of goo. :p

Chicken Poop for your lips

In regards to buying chapstick past security...

I heard a report today that the airports are trying to decided what to do about liquid items you can buy at the Duty Free shops. Saying that those items can not be carried on. So I would imagine that would go for liquid items in the other airport stores.

I've wondered if things like bottled drinks are being sold. Sure if you are getting on a plane and they see you with a drink they can make you throw it out but a bottled drink can be placed in a bag. Of course you cant do that with a fountian drink. Well you can but not with the assurance it won't spill.

I would think if they truly don't want liquids on the planes they would have to stop selling all liquid items that can be conceled in bag past securtiy.

Take Care

I'm sorry if you are offended, but there are some things to consider. You could buy chapstick after security, apply it, and discard it before the flight. Yes, it may be uncomfortable. You could also see if there is prescription lip balm if it's that bad. Get your son to go longer without the chapstick before the flight.

I'm just trying to point out that a lot of people are asking questions which can't yet be answered. Let things settle for a few days and see how things stand. In the meantime, make a backup plan.

Well what you think would make sense, but those bottled drinks are being sold and they are NOT inspecting ALL passengers getting on ALL planes..... (So your could get lucky! LOL!) (Just swa a TV story showing folks trying to down those drinks in record time before they got on a plane!)

People are really going to cancel a flight because they can't carry a chapstick on the plane?

I think TSA announced that there will be a second screening at the gate to look for anything that might have been purchased past the security checkpoint.

I also heard somewhere that airports might end up being required to remove all liquid items except beverages from stores inside the security checkpoints.

One would hope not, but, if the kid is in pain what are you going to do?
I think the lip balm in a pencil stick was a great idea.

I don't think that most passengers are"arrogant and obnoxious" so I assume you mean me.

The truth is that most of us and that includes me NEVER even SPEAK to the TSA agent so it's hard to imagine that passengers are being "arrogant and obnoxious" My co-worker on Monday is a prime example, he was standing at the little belt pushing his luggage. What would have prompted the agent to start yelling???? Same thing with the corkscrew. He literally took it out of my luggage (I pack it in an outside pocket to assist the TSA) and turned to me and said "I should strip search you" There had been NO other interaction. (I think he may have asked premission to look at the luggage, but he didn't actually wait for me to respond!)

If it's that bad can't a doctor give the kid a prescription for something to use?

I guess I didn't realize that I am NOT the only one that has to have Vaseline/Chapstick at all times. I have discussed it with my Dr. years ago and he said that I have some condition (don't remember the name--it didn't seem important) that causes my lips to not make whatever it is that naturally moisturizes them. His suggestion--just keep using Vaseline as needed--and for me it is needed constantly. My dd seems to have it also, her lips are always chapped and bleeding if she doesn't remember to carry Vaseline.

I am flying out Sept 20. I am hoping this will have been loosened up by then, but I am also considering seeing if I can get a Dr. note of some sort. I will be absolutely miserable if I can't have ChapStick. I usually use Vaseline, but can substitute a stick (non gel--it would seem it should be allowed!???) if I have to.

I have actually been trying to figure out how I could "sneak" a bit of Vaseline on, but haven't figured it out yet. I did think of the fact that it is plastic and wouldn't set of the metal detector in my pocket, but really don't feel like getting body searched and arrested on my way to WDW!

would it be possible to leave your chapstick in your pocket? As long as it's not got metal on it anywhere it shouldn't cause a problem, is that right? Just a question/suggestion.

Honestly to me, this seems rediculous and I'd almost rather just cancel my flight all together and drive. I'm really irritated by this. And no, I don't believe it's a question of being 'safe or sorry'.

tricia.

I don't think that I would want to be "caught" with something on the banned list either on the plane or at the gate. Can you say "detention" -as in your not getting on this plane" or "your not going where you thought you were when this plane lands". I would imagine questioning and possibly a jail cell might be involved

I don't think so. Most likely they will just be made to throw away the offending item or they won't be allowed on the plane.

I've gotta say that I am willing to do ANYTHING asked of me to keep my family safe while traveling.

These terrorist put every waking moment of their lives into these plots and plans, they have no regard for themselves or anyone else. We have NO IDEA what they could have created, or tested. These terrorist are NOT dumb, and they absolutely believe that we shoud DIE for our beliefs. Maybe they can put something into a chapstick that can be combined with something in our hair gel that will explode!

We don't know and its the unknown that has brought these safety measures to the extreme,

BUT of course everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Who on this thread is cancelling a flight because they can not bring Chapstick on the plane? Did I miss something? Or did someone misunderstand my post about my son needing a lip balm? ????

I would reccomend your family doctor write a perscription of some sort. If the chapstick is the reccomend medication for your son's condition maybe you can have him write a script for some form of official medication that your son can use.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the chubbystick is lipstick and not lip balm. Not too sure how much other poster is gonna want her son walking around an airport w/ lipstick on lol. ITA with everyone saying to try to get a prescription from your doc.

OK, I can't find it on the Clinique website, so I may need to visit the Company Store outlet tomorrow! I swear that it came in a clear colourless stick as well as shades.

I use a fairly neutral pinky shade called Angel's Kiss or something similar; but I can see how a 9 yo boy may not be thrilled to wear it..

Here's a picture (sorry, could only find a German site) It's a pencil, not a tube of lipstick etc. It really does feel moisturizing, but I am a little concerned as I can't see it on the Clinique website and am wondering if it's discontinued. I did see it at Linique (German Clinique) this summer.

Okay...shoot me for this one...

But if your child has to have a slab of vaseline what is wrong with putting a dab of it on a tissue and keeping the tissue in your purse.

Technically probably against the rules--but you aren't carrying a tube or a container or even enough to coat much more than a little boy's dry lip.

I don't feel safer because a child can't have his lip balm or granny can't bring her lipstick or we all may be a little thirstier. And I do get angry when I see pictures on the news of TSA agents going thru the trash pulling out the discards people were forced to toss out. But I get down right furious that a even the foiled plans of a few terrorists could cause disruptions and anxiety in the lives of so many.
