Soft opening for Shrek attraction may come in May

Universal Orlando's new Shrek 4-D will open in June, according to the latest Passport newsletter to annual passholders of the Studios and Islands of Adventure parks.

Employees say a "soft" opening, in which the ride would be tested at certain hours, with guests welcome, could occur as soon as Memorial Day weekend at the end of May.
Work on the family ride has been in such high gear that some guests have complained because the block on Hollywood Boulevard where Shrek is under construction has been without party lights during the park's Mardi Gras parade celebration. Across the street on the darkened block is the work site for the Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast attraction, scheduled to open in April.

How are people normally selected for such test rides? We're AP holders, but we never receive any info in the mail, presumably because we live in the UK. We're also close to booking a VIP tour of USF for Friday, 23 May - would that put us in with a good chance?

We are Annual Passholders and we just received an invitation to attend the soft opening of Jimmy Neutron on April 4-6 between the hours of 8:00am -10:am. This was sent to most AP holders. We will be going this Sat. to check it out. We will let you know how it is that night.

We're also UK AP holders and like Deb says we don't get any info at all, I wonder why we don't get any emails?? We're going May 16 - 30th and my kids would be over the moon if they could do Jimmy Neutron ride especially my 4yo - he's nuts about him Any tips on making his holiday???

Deb, I might try emailing them tomorrow and I'll let you know what they say.

Neutron is suppose to be officially open on April 11. I was at the preview today and it is an excellent ride. There are several interesting portions of the ride and the staff gets you involved in the movie.

Well I don't blame them for pushing up the opening for Shrek.

While there is no official opening date for IOA/USF since they are year around parks, there IS a season for most coaster fans, and it starts next week.

I'm flying to Atlanta/Virgina to visit 4 parks in 5 days.

There is a season, and I'm glad to see USF/IOA finally realize the rides need to be ready in the early months of the year.

Mummy coaster needs to open in April of 2004 (Wink Wink).
