Soft Drinks in Luggage

Something came to mind recently. I know you cannot pack glass bottles (say wine) in your checked luggage at the port, but what about 12 packs of drinks? I have a horrible addiction to Diet Pepsi. I really don't want to lug it around in carry-on all morning. Can it be packed to go on board? Bad idea? You tell me.
