Why are six packs of soda (Coke, 7-up, Dr. Pepper, etc) no longer available? I don't need/want 12 cans.

I really haven't thought about a six pack. I just buy the 12 packs. But I do buy the mini's in 6 once in a while.

I just buy the 6 pack of the bottles. I can't find the 6 pack cans. I don't buy the 12 because it takes up too much space and it's heavy.

Twelve pack cartons seem to be the default these days. Might have something to do with concerns over the effect of the plastic rings on wildlife when they're improperly disposed. At least in the US such plastics have to be made such that they turn brittle in the presence of sunlight.

And even the smaller cans don't seem to come in six packs, but eight. However, they still use those plastic rings.

Speaking of these cans, when you're talking minis, are they the short and squat ones that are the same diameter as 12 oz cans, or the taller, thinner ones? I frankly haven't seen the former around here in a while.

I remember about a decade ago I found Coors Light in these 8 oz, thin cans. I heard some jokes about them, like they really were silver bullets, and that I should drink it with my pinky sticking out.

Depends on the brand - Coke/Sprite 8 oz cans are the narrow ones. Others are the same diameter (7Up, IIRC) as the 12 oz cans, but shorter. Regardless, the 8 oz cans cost more PER CAN than 12 oz cans. Ugh.

We generally buy lesser used brands of soda in 12 packs, higher volume in 24 packs (unless they're running a special on the twelves).

Yes there are mini-cans that are 8oz or bottles that are 16oz but no 12oz six packs.

Might be a regional thing depending on the local bottler. What I see might even be 6-packs, but 7-Up comes as scaled down versions in every dimension, like this:

We still get 6 packs... although our beers might be a tad bigger than the ones I found in America. May it's only where I was looking State-side?

You can still find 6-pack 12 oz. cans in flavors that are distributed by Canada Dry in these parts. Ginger ale, 7-up, Sunkist orange, one of the root beers (A & W ?), and a few others.

In any event, 12 packs are on sale so often, why would somebody want the 6 or 8 packs of smaller bottles or cans that cost MORE? Even when 12 packs AREN'T on sale, their cost per ounce is cheaper than the others. 12 packs of soda is a product I don't mind wasting if I don't finish the whole can.

I won't pay more than $2.99 for a 12 pack. Usually I can get them for $2.75 or less.

Coke Life comes in 6 packs. that is DD's new favorite. I would rather buy it in 12s. Cost is less or at least the same.

I'm probably thinking of the wrong brand. Those ARE interesting though.

7-Up seems to have smaller cans in different shapes depending on the location.

It's pretty common here, but overseas I've seen considerably smaller cans for common soft drinks.

Everyone seems to like the 6 pk. bottles better, and to me, lots more practical.

One of the things I remember about six packs of cans is that they don't tend to stay clean. I remember there were these modified six pack devices that actually covered the tops. Of course there are still some packages that still use rings, but with bottles the cap sort of keeps stuff out - sort of. And San Pelligrino, which uses a foil cover that's removed.

Dh still uses canned soft drinks, but I always use bottles. The cans seem unsanitary to me - I always wash the tops if I just have to use one - probably doesn't help LOL, but makes me feel better!! Anyone/everyone/everything can touch where you drink from the can! :crazy2:

A six pack of Sanpelligrino soda is shrink wrapped with a foil cover over the top of each can. Maybe it's overkill. Pricey too.
